I visited Eden Club today for the first time. Following general advice on the forum I arrived around 1pm to get a larger selection of girls.

Inside was ok, nothing much. The main attraction was the emerald Buddha. I was reading up on Buddhism at that point and found it ironic that people were killing each other over this Emerald Buddha. Not very Buddhist.

Buddhism in Thailand is a mixture of local influence/superstition, Hinduism (Brahma is still worshipped in Thailand but not in India) and Therevada Buddhism.

The bits of the palace opened to the public were not very interesting to me.

As an aside, this period of time was the run up to the king’s birthday and his posters were everywhere, put up by various business enterprises. Factory workers were also wearing the royal yellow (given to them by factory owners). The king’s face was so dominant I feel it was eerily cultish. I won’t mention it anymore as similar things have been heatedly discussed in the board except to mention how time changes!

Wat Po is a rambling Buddhist complex behind the Royal Palace. I walked there. On the day had a thai guy coming the other way in a blue police uniform, not exactly police but a uniform of some sort . He said hi and asked where I was from. Told him. Asked where I was going. I said Wat Po.Claimed he was ina the army. He started to tell me it was closed, he ahd come from there, it was a public holiday etc, why not go to a Big Buddha nearby. My mind was set on Wat Po and I prefer to trust myself then others. Also I had come from the Royal palace which was open. So just said no and keep walking. A common scam it seems it to get you to go to some other attraction on an expensive tuk-tuk ride.

And yes Wat Po was open. Wat Po is my kind of place, rambling, old, seemingly incoherent, unstructured. There is even a school at the back for kids. Spent some time there, a great antidote to the Royal palace. Less of a crowd and you can wander around in solitude.

I also indulged in the famous Wat Po massage. There is a massage school in Wat Po and it is considered the best in Thailand. According to my guide books there are different schools of massage in Thailand with ones in Ching Mai also acclaimed. This would explain the differences in routine I had from different massages I received.

This is in the middle and to the left of Wat Po. Pay an amount take a number and a massager will be assigned to you, either male of female. You go into a room with thin matresses on the floor. Other are getting massaged. The massager does a little prayer and you get massaged. The best massage I had in Thailand. The cost is nominal (for the tourist) as everyone including locals pay the same price. It is considered a service back to the community (well that is what my guide book says).

Coming back was trickier. No public transport (except busses). I walked back to the royal palace and had to take a taxi from there, one of those hanging around the entrance. Was quoted and exorbitant price and so was not keen on chit0chatting with the driver. I think for those who do go to the royal palace try to go to the left of the palace, down the road to the side and see if you can flag a taxi that is moving along the road rather than getting scalped from those at the entrance. But please be warned there seems no way back than by using these scalpers.

I did ask how much a car/taxi cost, 1 million baht apparently. On reaching the lodge he tried to get more from me then the agreed price. I said no of course and said we had an agreement. And that and other similar occasion is why I try my best not to use taxis whenever I can.

This night I went again to NEP. Tried some of the other go go’s. Rainbow 2 at the ground floor refused me entry said members only (being a brownie I had read the forum enough to expect this)

Ended up in Rainbow 4 again.

More basics

Forgot to mention that there is an element of safety in getting girls from bars and gogos rather than freelancers. You have the option of complaining to the mamasan the next day and tracking items that are missing. I think the lodge does note down the ID of WG’s coming in but I can’t remember. Some basics for newbies as learned from the forum and then practiced with success.

Bar fine in a go gois generally THB500, maybe THB600 these days. Long Time (LT) is generally 30000thb in Bangkok, note that you can negotiate with the service provider but this is the general prevailing price (the longer you stay and the less horny you are the better bargainer you will be, always be comfortable with what you are paying, aim to make your budget last if you have one). I have never taken Short Time (ST) which is 2 hours with multiple shots so will not comment. I like a morning fuck and LT is riskier but also more cost-effective for me. You can also try to wait and try to get them towards closing time where you assume you have the upper hand in negotiation.

The bar/gogo girl situation

As learned from this forum, reading the guide book and my questioning of various WG’s.

The typical go go girl gets 1-2 days off per month. Any more days then that and she has to pay her barfine amount for that day to the gogo (hmm why is it not a gogofine?). She also has to meet the quota requirements for Lady drinks (LD) per month, otherwise she is out. Quite a lot of them are on yaba (as told to me by my mamasan friend but more on that later) as the 5 hours of dancing take their toll. If they sleep all day, this is a sign they smoke yaba. Yaba is the local amphetamine and generally smoked like crack. The golden triangle after all is just a border away. Go go girls generally last about 2-3 months before heading home. Most girls are from Isaan and the Korat peninsula which is the northern part of Thailand (Thaksin country)and the poorest area. They are literally dirt poor. People from this area also have a mix of Lao ethicity in them (due to a Thai monarch do did some forced migration on the Lao people a few centuries ago) and do speak the Lao lingua franca or a mixture. Most stall food apparently are also Isaan in origin.

Be aware of this and act accordingly. Looking back at this posting I realise I do jump about a lot. Please indulge me.

So let me recount my 2 trips to Bangkok (BKK) (and Pattaya, but that will be in the Pattaya section) and my observations.

My first trip was in late November up to early Dec 2007 (Low season so hotels are cheaper) Some of my memory might be hazy. I did write about it before. Unfortunately I lost my password and had to take another nom de guerre. I have also taken the precaution of writing all this out in word rather than directly into ISG. I have lost quite a few lengthy reports because of the time cut-off in the ISG posting of 30 mins.

In preparation for the trip I focused on the “reports of distinction” thread rather than the main thread in ISG. Some of the longer reports are quite informative. The few that proved most useful at that time ( in 2007) where from other newbies as they contained a lot of basic information that is taken as a given in the forum. Buy a guidebook as well. I always find it useful to get one wherever I go. SIM cards can be gotten at any 7-11’s and they are all over Thailand. An adaptor for the battery charger should be in most electronic shops. I got mine in Pattaya. All it does is adapt the plug. I barely used my thai phone in both my trips.

My initial plan was to stay in Bangkok for 4 days, then 5 days elsewhere and then back to Bangkok for 1-2 days before flying back.

I was choosing between Koh Samui and Pattaya for the 4 days in between. Finally choose Pattaya. The cost of flights to Koh Samui from the monopoly provider did not make sense (the airline owns the only airport in Koh Samui hence the exorbitant rates, either that or an 8 hour train ride (if I recall correctly), then ferry to the island) though it seemed I would have the hotel by the beach to myself due to the low season.


I decided as a first timer to Bangkok to stay at Giotto’s (Livingstone lodge http://www.livingstones.co.th/).

As I was not familiar of Bangkok, I wanted an establishment that was guaranteed girl-friendly (some hotels charge an additional fee if you bring a “guest” as I read in the forum) and also that had a bar in the premises. Giotto has his own thread, but just to let others know, there is a bar with Working Girls (WG) in his premises Sports Lounge, by the pool). I thought that this would be the best way to ease my way into Bangkok.

First Day

I arrived at the airport. Towards the left on the ground floor, there is a taxi stand. You
state your destination and they direct you to a taxi, which is usually the next one in
the line (but I understand now there are trains from the airport to Bangkok). If I
remember correctly I paid about THB500 including toll. Apparently this is more that
it should be but it was on the meter so I am not sure how this could be. As you come
from the airport, Bangkok is spread before you and it is a Metropolis.

When I go on holiday, the day I think changes. I enter into a stream of consciousness mode as if I am a third person observing myself and all around me.

I tend to chat to taxi drivers. Always like to know about their lives etc to get a feel of the lay of the land. He told me he visit his family once a month (they live in a farm outside of Bangkok. He told me as well he lives in his car. Well it is believable.

I reached Livingstone Lodge and checked in.

Livingstone’s Lodge is located in Soi 33 (Soi I think is street so Street 33 off Sukhimvit). There are a couple of (I learned later) hostess bars around as well as some massage places (some I believe have closed?).
I have told the are called the Dead Artist corner but have never heard the term used in the forum. The hostess bar are all named after artist i.e. Michaelangelo etc. I never ever when into any of them.

At the entrance to Soi 33 towards Sukhumvit on the left there is an English pub where I am told the steaks are good.

After checking in (this was in the afternoon). My first port of call was Akane (ww.akane-corp.com/english/english_top.html). Akane used to be all the rage in the forum in 2007 ( I think otherwise it would be unlikely I would have visited there) but barely gets a mention now.

Once outside of Livingstone Lodge, turn left and walk up. Not that easy to find as it is in the car park of a hotel probably 5 minutes from the Lodge. There should be a sign on the top left and once you reach the mouth of the car park you will be able to see it.

I took the 2 ladies option as that was the recommended option in the forum.

Staying along the BTS (Bangkok MassTransit System) is a blessing. I never used a taxi again in Bangkok except to take Working Girls (WG) back to the hotel (and to get back from the royal palace). Phrom Phong is the nearest station, about a few minutes walk away.

I had made plans for my daytime hours as well based on my guidebook. I don’t sleep much on holidays. Usually too pumped up so little sleep is required.

From my experience ST/LT prices are very dependent on the specific lady in question -- some ask for outrageous LT prices, especially early in the night because they often are able to score 2-3 STs; but if they're free late in the night esp on a weeknight you can get a great deal.

Weeknight. I find that timing is so underrated! When I'm in BKK really it's only a wknd holiday from Singapore, so I'm in on Thurs/Fri/Sat and at the gogo around 10-11 pm .... pretty much when the demand is highest.

From experience in Singapore, prices are lower and you can much more easily bargain on a Monday a little early in the night than on a wknd at prime hours.

I've seen several posts recently asking where you can get a massage after closing time in Bangkok (after 2-3am). I didn't realize until a few days ago that this is readily available along Soi 11 on the right-hand side when entering from Sukhumvit. You'll see many ladies asking if you want a massage and they're not freelancers but have signs indicating the massage shops behind them on the soi; this was true both over the past weekend and tonight on a Monday so it seems that it's available most/every night. If you've hit the club Climax at the Ambassador Hotel you probably walked too far from what I can tell.

I didn't partake though and can't vouch for the quality of the women or the massage, but at least the option exists on this street for those interested after closing time. Would love to get some feedback from anyone who has actually sampled the late night action.

If you're a good negotiator it's easy to get even rainbow girls to drop to 1500 ST or even less. There is no universal price. Get that out of your head.

I have been explained several times by a number of Rainbow(s), Shark and Baccara girls that their management has a strict policy concerning their rates and that the senior ladies actually brainwash the newcomers.

Sometimes they were girls declining my offers (and this story may be part of the negotiation) but in some cases they were girls actually accepting less than the going rate (yes, it happens but I repeat that IMO it is *very difficult* unless you go for a dog).
