I've come to the conclusion that there are a certain percentage of people here who not only don't understand how the market works, but don't want to, preferring to lay down the law as to how we should all behave.

All I can say is that, despite all those dastardly overpayers, I find on average I'm getting the same or maybe even better quality than I was 10 or 20 years ago for about the same price, inflation-adjusted. I've adapted a bit -- more Pattaya, less Bangkok, more Angeles, less Manila -- and I've given up on favorite old playgrounds like Taiwan (which of course got expensive not due to overpaying, but economic development). And every time someone sternly warns me not to spoil the market 'for all of us', I feel an irresistible urge to hand out a big tip.

You (and Run Mann) are of course right. And as we all know, it's an entirely futile effort -- witness reality, as you've clearly pointed out. But they'll glance right past reality and die on the sword of their ad hominem, and continue to clutter up the boards and disparage people. One ultimately has to wonder about the real reasons for such posts in the first place, since as you point out they clearly do not have the effect the poster claims he desires.

USEFUL INFO FOR OTHERS (would like to add something that might help, in accordance with the point of the forum): One of the things I personally really like about cheap markets with a ton of cheap Charlies (like Thailand and Philippines) is that the girls really appreciate guys who aren't cheap and give fantastic service (at time) in response - and it's easier to attract them. I've written before about the benefits of service and reliability and quality of girl I've gotten at the very marginal cost of a 500 baht or 1000 baht time from time to time. Contrast this to the people who sponsor girls for 20,000+ baht per month, or the Japanese who pay 5000 (555), etc etc etc., none of which have "ruined the market" of course (just developed markets for those things, aka Thermae, G-clubs, etc), and the so-called "overpaying" and "unnecessary tips" is not only a worthwhile bargain, it's a STEAL.

So my "tip" to the board in general is that if you are uncomfortable with negotiating, instead, cast off your worries about a few meaningless dollars, negotiate a little if you like, and then tip well (waitresses, mamas, girls, everyone) - and/or offer extra money for extra services (photos, movies, rimming, CIM, COF, anal, whatever). Works like a charm for me, and doesn't break my mood either. This will undoubtedly lead to some waste of money from time to time and the occasional girl taking you for a sucker, but in the long haul you'll get more crazy-good experiences, at least IMHO.

And if you are one who wants to negotiate and play the game that way, more power to you! No one berates you for that, and likewise you should not expect, and especially not demand, that all people play according to your "rules." Peace.

hello, friends:

this is my first report on this forum. been lurking around here for a while, learning from you guys prior to my first trip to bangkok. well, i finally made my trip last week! 4 nights in bangkok, staying at a hotel in nana, near n. e. p.

1st night: massage parlor, 400baht + 1000baht = 1400baht

arrived into bkk close to midnight. by the time i got to my hotel, it was nearly 2:00am! i spotted n. e. p and the bars were still somewhat open, but i was too tired for the bar scene. instead, after checking into the hotel, i went to a massage parlor (naree massage) nearby, these guys close at 3am (although their sign outside says 24h). opted for a 1hr oil massage with nice, slim lady in her mid-30s (my guess) for 400 baht. she took me upstairs into a dimly lit room. the room was clean and cool. she gave me a towel and asked me to shower while she prepared the room: turned on music, blasted the a/c, etc. the massage was decent and after flipping me over at the 30 min mark, asked me if i wanted to massage the baby. i asked her if she offered full service, and she laughed (as if i had to ask.). she asked for 1500, but i countered with 1000 baht, saying that that's all i had. and that it was my first night in bangkok! she laughed, and said ok. so she went to work, massaging balls and baby, then gave me a cbj. i was tired as hell from the long flight, but she made me hard in no time. hopped on and hell, i almost came instantly because her pussy was so tight! my first thai pussy and i was overwhelmed by it. i felt like i was in heaven. it was a great first experience.

3) i could have skipped the drinks.

the massage parlors are nice and offer good massages. any kind of additional service is always available.

my best experience in bangkok turned out to be with a freelancer on my last night! i hadn't expected to pick up sw during my trip, but it just happened. i realized that sw are not necessarily all desparate p are o s t i t you t e s, and that you may find a diamond in the rough. for instance, the beautiful girl i met, she has a day job at a bank; and she only comes out to nana once in a while. i believe her because after 3 nights that i was walking up and down suk4, i have started to see some familiar faces; but not hers.

i don't know when i'll be able to hit the streets of bangkok again. but i miss it already.

Fair enough, but you're comparing the gogos with the escort on price. The only thing that the gogos and the escort have in common, is sex with a girl. So we're talking about the price of the sex, which you said was reasonable for the escort, as compared to the gogo. And I pointed out that if the sex is your priority, then you're going about the gogos wrong. If you're going to the gogo for the fun, then it's still a lot cheaper than having the same fun with an escort (as you'd have to take her to a gogo or some other club anyway).

I've also had some wonderful gogo party nights, e.g. taking a girl to a bar where she used to work and buying a bottle, to start with ... that one was memorable :-)

Understand your point, and you are right, but it's not really what I meant. My perspective is as a tourist. Come to Bangkok, want to find a hot girl for wild fun, need to plow through several gogos interviewing girls to get the right one, and that always costs me more and takes a lot more time than just ordering in.

Funny as it sounds, I actually do the "buy my own drinks and get a bit buzzed/drink out of my own bottle at home" with the escort girls, but seem to often get suckered into buying drinks in the gogos. I suspect it's partly because when I go out I enjoy drinking in the bars, partly due to the screening process I mentioned above, and partly due to my being bad at responding to the pressure from the mama's and waitresses (better said just in "relax and enjoy my vacation" mode, much like when I'm in Vegas I'll leave a $100 tip for a dinner or good driver or whatever whereas would be a fraction of that elsewhere).

Anyway, what I really meant is a night of ordering in could easily be cheaper for me (and others) in terms of the total dollars that I spend (regardless of it being an apples to oranges comparison, it's just how it turns out,) so in fact if I want to spend less I consider just ordering in.

Brilliant stuff, this is ROD material. Posters have been decrying others for overpaying thus ruining the market for years but their target audience is certainly not listening because they have to keep repeating the message. Price conscious members disparaging posters about how said posters spend their own money using the flawed "overpaying ruins the market" theory are engaged in a total waste of effort. Now if we can merge all the chicken little, sky is falling, world is coming to an end, forces of social control is putting their foot on our necks, I'm remember when I could get LT for 300B type posts in the same thread… well that would be asking for too much.

One may tip as one wishes - better said people WILL tip as they wish regardless of what YOU wish or decry - and despite others' views about what is "overpaying" (one word), the reality is the nature of such markets is always to have varying price points and are NOT set by YOU but rather by the entire market. If you and people only exactly like you existed, the market would not. In fact, tips also create the illusion (and in many cases the reality) of prospect for the girls, which draws more to the market. And the market, especially one as large as this one, develops around the different price points -- always has and always will, provided outside factors such as LE don't interfere. Pricing is NOT an outside factor but an intrinsic one.

No negotiating sets a bad precedent for the rest of us. Just because a price is quoted does not mean that's the out the door price.

That is an extremely myopic and erroneous perspective. The list of confounding factors is long, but I'll point out just a few: Inflation, Expansion, Relocation, Development, Segregation, Legal/Regulatory, and perhaps also your age itself (it makes sense that an older monger would have to pay more for the same quality as he did when he was 39 years younger, inflation adjusted).

Problem is we are running out of locations that offer value.

That is patently untrue, officious, and neurotically paranoid. There are still TONS of places to monger cheaply. Some have relocated, some are in the same places as always. Some former cheap places now have better quality and are more expensive. Some entirely new places have popped up. And you can still get laid with ease for 500 baht (or less) on beach road in Pattaya, or a lot less in Angeles City, Cambodia, Laos, some places in Southern China, and many others. For that matter, Bangkok is still very cheap in many places. There are also expensive options (thankfully). You probably aren't going to get G-club girls for 500 baht. In the same way as you could buy an apartment in some locations of the city for $10,000 and in other places for $20 million, there are different prices for different budgets. And if someone wants to pay $20 million for a $10,000 apartment, it is not gonna "ruin the market." Ultimately, if everyone started doing that, then that would no longer be considered overpaying, because that would actually BE the market.

Meanwhile, I've said this before -- if overpaying ruined the market, as you say, then it would actually be incentive for people with more money to intentionally overpay and thus get rid of the competition (i.e. you) and keep the better girls for themselves, and your whining about it would be nothing more than tolling of a bell to remind and encourage people to do just that. But that's simply not at all how the market works. Just as it would be pointless to try to do that, it's pointless to try to get people to "hold the market down," or even think that such a strategy would actually work for anything other than a tiny fraction of the market and/or for a very short time. Google Nick Leeson if you want a real life example.

Anyway, my point is this: Read up on prices as you wish, and monger as YOU wish. This whole world, especially here in Thailand, is a giant fantasy. Enjoy it as you wish. Up to you. But don't be a hater, or if you are, keep it to yourself.

Day 1 went to sharks at soi cowboy, great selection, picked this hottie with a great body and great rack, didn't want to negotiate due to situational circumstances so paid asking price of 2500bht st and 600bht bar fine, I think she stayed almost 3hrs, gave her a 500bht tip(saw her talking to some japanese guys after she got dressed at the bar so during our session I took my time, I wanted to make sure I wasnt bar fining her for them haha, she was good, well worth the 3kbht)

While reading your post I was a bit surprised about the 3k bht (2, 5 + tip) that you paid to the Shark's girl.

Of course it is your money and your feelings, so I am sure that in that moment you felt like it was the right thing to do. And of course you are not the person in charge for the prices stability or the one who should be concerned about the living (and mongering) standard of the expatriates here.

I would rather ask you why you felt like that was the good amount to pay.

In Thailand a mid rank civil servant makes around 15. 000 bht a month. A master degree junior bank officer is paid more or less the same. A cleaning lady in a hotel makes more or less from 6 to 8.000 bht a month.

A senior bachelor degree network administrator employed by a popular Bangkok university is paid less than 20. 000 bht a month.

Your girl's rent is probably around 6. 000 bht a month.

Upcountry, where most of the girls come from, these amounts have probably to be cut by 30 to 50%.

In addition to that, the market prices (I mean the p4p prices) are in average far below the amount you were initially requested. You surely know that the ST going rate at the beergarden is 1 or 1, 5 k bht. Streetwalkers cost more or less the same (most of them will go for 1. 000). Even Rainbow bars, I mean those where the girls' standard is the highest in the gogo scene, instruct their gals to request 2k/4k for short/long time (which is in my opinion a scandal, both the amount and the fact that the bar interferes in the negotiation between punters and girls).

So, don't you think that there is a disproportion between what you paid and what the fair price would be?

I really don't want to criticise you but I believe that simply there is no need to pay so much. It won't give you a better service (on the contrary, experience is in the sense that high requests come together with poor performance), it won't make you more respected or popular and risks to give the idea that you are just a cow to be milked.

Well, I am a brownie too, but I have to say the whole racial stigma thing is more what you make of it yourself.

This is a sensitive issue, so please take what I am going to write in the right way. I will simply report what my experience has been without that meaning in any way that I support or even only justify any form of racist attitude vis a vis indian people.

I was in Pattaya last March. It was more or less 11 pm and I saw a young and nice looking girl in a beer bar at the beginning of soi 8. It was the first bar after Flipper Lodge heading to the 2nd road if memory serves me well.

I invited her for a beer and we sat a bit back in the bar where we spent more or less half an hour joking, chatting and even touching and kissing each other (with moderation as I am a gentleman.)

After the second round of drinks I decided to barfine her and everything was running smooth: normal barfine, LT request 2K negotiated to 1. 5K, no sign of bad attitude, the conversation had been ok despite her broken english and my poor thai. So, everything was just perfect.

After I paid and while waiting for the change she asked me again about my hotel. I was staying in LK Renaissance in soi Diana which she did not know. Since we had joked up to that moment I wanted to tease her a bit and I told her that I was sharing my room with a mate and that there was only one (external) bathroom serving all the 20 rooms of the floor.

Maybe a stupid joke but the atmosphere was so playful and relaxed that I could not imagine the bad reaction that followed.

She started looking puzzled and asked me if by chance I was indian.

Sure, yes I am, look at my tanned skin and dark hair and eyes.

Hell, all of a sudden she completely changed her attitude. She was scared! She started asking me to to speak in my language (which I did and italian does *not* sound like hindi), then she asked me to repeat my name more and more times (and my name in Italy is as common as John, Bill or Charles in english speaking countries.). I tried to convince her with some Euro coins that I had by chance in my pockets but no way.

In the end, believe it or not, since I had no document with me proving my nationality, she fetched 300 bht from her bag, handed me the cash and disappeared.

Needless to say, I was shocked.

In the next days, during my long bar hopping sessions, I asked around what the hell was wrong with indian guys and many, MANY girls reported first or (mostly) second hand bad experiences: shithole-dirty hotels, bad smelling guys, people trying to pay ridiculous amounts (2/300 bht) or to gangbang the chicks, endless negotiations even after the sessions.

So, once again I repeat what I said at the beginning: this is a plain and simple report of my experience and in no way reflects my point of view. This said, I am afraid that Starchild may not be completely wrong in his statement "As I'm from India. I'm not the first choice for most of the bar girls in Thailand. ". Sorry to disagree here but in my opinion as a western tourist & punter it is rather difficult to get the full picture, regardeless of the colour of your skin. There is actually a fracture in the thai society between thai and isaan people, and the dark-skin-flat-nose look is still broadly associated to the low working classes. Look at the ads in the street or on the skytrain, have you ever seen a pretty isaan-looking girl advertising (for example) beauty producs? How many hot brown girls have you encountered telling you "I am ugly, I am dark"?

Go and have a look at how many "brownies" attend the courses of medicine or journalism at Chula or Thammasat. Or go to Burmrungrad and see how many doctors have dark skin. You may be disappointed.

Last March clashes led the country one step from the civil war. The racial element (the fracture I was mentioning before: thai-white-rich vs isasn-dark-poor) was one of the (main) reasons at the base of the protests.

Now, does this mean that every thai will treat you differently according to the color of your skin? No, absolutely. As a foreigner and especially as a tourist and as far as you bring cash nobody will bother you. But saying that thai society is as egalitarian as, say, swedish, spanish, american or german ones, well.

Well, I am a brownie too, but I have to say the whole racial stigma thing is more what you make of it yourself. Thai girls think I am Indian, Italian, Spanish, Australian (maybe in a Tim Cahill kind of way), South American, sometimes Arab, sometimes Turkish, etc. The ones who have something against such people stay away from me, but for every one that discriminates against brownies like me, there is usually one who discriminates against whities. Believe it or not, there are plenty of girls who will never go with a Japanese guy, although you would never know it from reading this forum. I had a superb experience with a girl in June (who I affectionately referred to in my reports as Bazooms) who had a fetish for all things Indian. She watched Indian movies every night, rented from one of two locations in BKK that stock new Bollywood productions. She sang Indian songs while she showered, she adored my black hair and 'tanned' skin. My point: don't let your ethnicity hold you back - Thailand is good to all. As an aside, when I've been to RCA, I have often seen some Indian-type guys floating around. I think these are the local Indians, i.e., they speak Thai. But I don't know that for a fact.

Well it has been around 10 days for me in the LOS and I've got 6 more so I've decided to take a day of rest and write this report, sorry this is not too detailed as I've been drinking every single day since I've gotten here

Day 1 went to sharks at soi cowboy, great selection, picked this hottie with a great body and great rack, didn't want to negotiate due to situational circumstances so paid asking price of 2500bht st and 600bht bar fine, I think she stayed almost 3hrs, gave her a 500bht tip(saw her talking to some japanese guys after she got dressed at the bar so during our session I took my time, I wanted to make sure I wasnt bar fining her for them haha, she was good, well worth the 3kbht)

First trip to Bangkok on August 3rd. Arrived around 5 PM. Travelling on business through SE Asia. Stayed at the Penisula Hotel. Got a GREAT rate. 2, 800 Bahtfor 10th floor room including breakfast. One advantage to the economic downturn!

Fortunately Tuesday night was free. Took the water taxi then the Skyline to Baccara. Intending to check out the area. And head to Nana Liquid around midnight. Went upstairs. Found a great dancer. Good english, tall, B/C breasts, pale skin, lovely eyes. Talked between sets. Spent 900 baht on beer & ladies drinks (her & her girlfriend). And then struck up the conversation for the nights company (around 12?). Ended up with 3500 baht + 600 bar fine for the evening for one, a little expensive. But well worth it.
