OK. Yes. Arguing with Thais is like running around in the street at night barking at the moon, not only is it clueless behavior, it can get you killed.
I hope that the members of ISG have read enough here to understand how it works in Thailand. You are you, you can never be them. Arguing with them is nothing but a drain on your own stamina & mentality and puts yourself in place that can never possibly be resolved. Frustration that turns you into a person that you really never wanted to be.
You do know that I wholeheartedly disagree with the language part of your equation. As I have said many times here, speaking the lingo is one of the most important things you can learn to do in Thailand. Not only do you find out what you are dealing with on a day to day basis, you get laid better, WAY better. (I have a sister act going these days that is more satisfying than I can tell you and it would have never happened without native speaking skills and vast amounts of experience of dealing with Thai chicks.)
Not speaking Thai if you live here is like not knowing how to read, you just miss out on too much. (Being versed Shakespeare, Joseph Conrad, Arthur Conan Doyle, etc. prepares you for a life in Bangkok? Of course it does!) Otherwise why not just live somewhere less complicated? Costa Rica, Peru, Western Samoa, Bali, or the Seychelles? There is a lot to this Thailand place. Getting a ton of 'tang is probably the best part of course, but there's far more to it than that.
Now then, dudes getting the stuffing knocked out of themselves for doing stupid shit happens everywhere in the world every minute of every day. The deal on Suk last night was just a little example of life anywhere. Just because it happened in Bangkok Thailand at that particular moment in time really doesn't mean shit does it?

You never argue with a Thai. You disagree but keep smiling and being calm. If you lose your calm you lose the fight.
You never hit a girl or attempt to slap her. Quite simple that some guy will jump in to save her.
We are talking what, 60 baht for a shot of vodka ?
If someone can lose their temper over 60 baht they deserve to get their face bashed in.
There are people who are kind and considerate who travel the world over and never have a problem.
Then there are the "them and us" kinds of people who are, and get, exactly what they deserve.

Anyhow, TIT. Where is OTH? damn he would have loved to answer this post.

Posts: 261farang beat up on sukhumvit
don't know if anyone caught the incident last night right next to the Nana BTS station at soi 7...i was strolling onto soi 7 when i witnessed a farang and a Thai gal yelling loudly at each other...she was screaming something about you have to pay...i assumed he had barfined her and they were having a spat. I later got her end of the story, but she runs the bar with 3-4 tables out on the corner of soi 7...claimed this guy ordered a mixed drink, then said that she hadn't made it with vodka as he wanted...he decided not to pay (at least this is her story)..at any rate, they yelled, it escalated a bit, and she shoved at him and he tried to slap back at her...within 5 seconds, there was a Thai guy in his face and he beat the pulp out of this guy..opened up his face pretty bad, real real ugly...regardless of what had happened, no reason for this to continue...what was sad is that absolutely nobody jumped in and tried to restrain the Thai guy. I'm pretty big and the Thai guy was small, i thought about trying to just hold him and say jai yen yen, but realized i'd probably be jumped by the tuk tuk drivers and others who were all looking on...this went on for a good 3-4 minutes, the gal from the bar even returned with a chair, which she was readying to hit the guy in the head with, although he was bloodied and battered enough by this point that it finally stopped...strangely, right out in front of Nana BTS and not a single cop about. Dont think this fellow will be returning to the land of smiles anytime soon...real sad to see stuff like this going down.

Posts: 705Big thanks to Tansak KTV
I just want to give a big thanks to Tansak KTV.
Some of you may remember that I had posted that I could not sleep on the long oversea flight and was asking for advice and help.
I received a lot of good response on from the guys here.
I am rewording this post since someone PMed me after reading my original post and said that Tansak KTV might get into trouble for what he did for me.
I just want to say that Tansak KTV went out of his way, went to a lot of trouble and expense to help me out. He did this without ever have met me. Not too many guys would do something this nice for someone that they never met and I just want to publicly thank him for all his help.
Now, maybe the flights wouldn't be so bad.
