Posts: 41it's how you phrase it (?)
I guess I should have phrased my question better. It's not that I have a problem with buying something while I'm in a bar, the question I had was, would it have to be booze (or even beer)? If it is, then the idea of going into a place is pretty well moot. If, on the other hand, they'll let me drink some bottled water or something along that line, then I'm in business.
As for how they make money, I was under the impression, from the different discussions here and elsewhere, that the house collected a fair percentage on the "lady drinks". So, if you're buying for a lady (or two or three), they should be making a nice profit off you, no matter what you've buying yourself, no? Or is that too thin a margin for them?

Skipped the Tulip session and got a long regular thai massage recommended by a friend. Fantastic!
Had a 2 hour long nap and then headed to NEP. Chatted up a cutie at the bar right in front when you're walking in. A couple of beers later walked up to Angelwitch. Had a great time with a slightly older lady there (25-28ish).
A couple beers later, moved on to Rainbow 4. They didn't let me in. The usual private party thingy. LOL. Having been warned about such situations, I didn't really get upset. Headed out to Soi Cowboy instead and that was the best thing that I did.
Wow, for the first timers. I would recommend SC any and every day over NEP. NEP is (IMHO) a watered down version of the SC experience.
Hit all your recommended bars, got the recommended services, had the recommended time of my life!
End game was Suzi Wong. Walked in, got a great table. Messing around with a young waitress when out walked this absolute hottie (IMHO). Calls herself Kob or Cob. Petite, great attitude. Long story short. BF, ST, closeby hotel. 2 hours of fantastic sex. No rules, no attitude. Absolutely beautiful pussy. Highly recommended.
Wound up listening to live music at another bar with both of us nursing a beer. Warm hug and kiss and I was on my way back to my hotel a very, very happy man.
Thanks for all the recommendations. Headed to Pattaya the next day. That report in the right section.
Cheers and take care/ Pulse

Cowboy: Went to the shark bar, nice looking girls but a bit boring after a while. Moved on to the toy bar, for some reason I always seem to have fun in there. Had several drinks with two of the girls (Pom and Room? ) and finished with a joint effort handjob in the bar.
Nana: Started in Rainbow 4. In my opinion they have some of the hottest girls, but maybe because they have such a lot working there. Anyway, decided to move on after one drink.
Stopped off in Spanky's on the same floor and took out a cute little 20yr old spinner. 40kg soaking wet, 150 tall. Called Por or Bor. Number 21. Recommended if you like small young girls. Back at my room (citadines soi 11. Very reasonable at under 2000THB a night) after shower, kissing, 15 minute blowjob and then she rode me cowgirl very energetically. No starfish here. Her energy was incredible, it put me to shame! She kept fucking me on top for over 45 minutes, no complaints, no 'too tired' she was like a tiny energizer bunny. Eventually, it proved too much for me and I got her to jerk me off over her little titties. Damage was 1500 and 600 to the bar. She asked for 2000 ST but jumped at 1500, so maybe would have gone for less.
She left about 11pm, so I went back for a ringside seat at Angelwitch, the shows are always quite good fun, and I like the music.

And there is no cover charge at these bars so I don’t understand how there is any parallel with US clubs, there is next to nothing in common between the two business models except each feature girls inside.

If you actually take the girl out and deprive the bar of their money making employee for the rest of the evening, you’re “fined” an additional amount for you to enjoy this further level of pleasure. This system has worked well since time immemorial.
If you don’t think it’s worth 100 baht to enjoy what the bar has to offer, then don’t go in. You should not expect to get it for free.

But nobody forces you to order an alcoholic drink. As long as you fork up the money for a drink, they'll be happy to serve you a coke or even a bottle of water. You'll pay the same as for a beer, but your choice of poison is up to you.

The Bars do serve non-alcoholic drinks and even water. You are not expected to drink but you are expected to buy a drink in a bar.

If you don't order a drink (not even water), they'll throw you out. A bar makes money not on girls but on drinks so if you ain't drinking, you ain't staying.
In the busy bars, you are even pushed to order a new drink often because they don't like people hanging around and nursing the same drink for ages.
It's a business, not a companionship agency. If one wants to look at girls without drinking then Soapies are the best place for that, not bars.

I don't drink alcohol at all, so I just order a 7-up when I go into a bar.

The discussion of how much to take on a trip to BKK got me wondering about something related:
If you go into a bar, are you automatically expected to drink?
That might seem like a strange question, but many years ago, I had reason to give up the drink (and the reasons are still valid today). I know a lot of stateside "gentlemen's clubs" will throw in a "free" drink as part of their cover charge, and if you don't order one, they just bring you something anyway and set it on the table. A waste, but the forms must be followed I guess.
So, if I go into a bar in Bangkok, and don't start drinking right away, am I going to have trouble with the wait staff/owner? Are they just going to come over and hound me to "buy drink" and, if I don't, give me the heave-ho? Anyone have any experience with this?

don't telegraph that before you get a booking or some other bastard will book her first.
i think you need the upstairs room for some extra action rather than just sit back coach potato style.
