I don't see why so many people exchange home country cash for Thai cash. My ATM card has worked perfectly and it gives a better exchange rate than posted at the cash exchange places. You do need to get an ATM card that charges no fees and reimburses the Thailand ATM fees (e.g., Schwab and Fidelity). I do bring some cash and a second ATM card for any possible emergency, but so far I haven't had an emergency. The airport ATMs are open 24/7.

It's because few people open accounts with that in mind, and in other countries finding a good bank that does this can be hard.

We're not all from the US. Our banks charge a lot per transaction and we don't want to pay the Thai ATM fee.

I always take a lot of cash and spend only the cash, but I still have the credit card in case of emergency.

Generally they demand notes be in pristine or very good condition IME, and advised elsewhere.

€100 and €500 notes get marginally better rate than lower denominations. Probably same for US dollar etc.

Also they have a branch in the Nana BTS IIRC.

Did someone say they tipped the cashiers?! The north American tipping practices really beggar belief. Though in Italy we don't even tip waiters so I may be out of touch with what's expected in the world of tipping. LOL.

So I can use my Schwab card at a good exchange rate and they waive ATM fees just like in the US? Great to hear. I have Fidelity as well. I'm planning on paying for most lodging before I go, if I need to pay with a Schwab card at a store do they nick you with fees?

I have been using the Schwab ATM card since 2014. It changed how I travel. I used to bring a ton of Dollars on every trip. Now I bring $1,000 in cash for backup and emergencies and I never use it. But let's be clear on one thing:

The Schwab Debit Card has no ATM fees and offers unlimited ATM fee reimbursement plus no foreign transaction fees on withdrawals made abroad.

The Fidelity Debit Card has no ATM fees and offers unlimited ATM fee reimbursement, but it charges a 1% foreign transaction fee on withdrawals made outside of the USA.

Take your pick or you can just carry a wad of cash in your suitcase. Hey, I remember when people used to bring traveler cheques.

There is a SuperRich on the lower level of the airport. It's in the general direction of the train into the city but it helps if you know where you are going beforehand.

If you can bring $US in cash and then go to a money changer linke "Superrich" they will give you baht for virtually no exchange costs. If you use ATM's then you will most likely be paying 2% to 4% depending on your card. ATM is probably safer, I personally like cash!

Taxi's from the airport now are a lot better. They lineup and you get given a ticket etc. Just jump in and make sure the turn the meter on. Some will try it on by saying 500 fixed fare, just say meter and point and they will turn it on and it will run 300+ change. They will also ask to if you want the motorway or not. You pay the tolls on the motorway by giving cash to the driver. I think it is 70 baht in total. The time saving is worth the $2.

Novotel on Sukhumvit 4 is great. I have stayed there many times, it is worth paying the extra couple of bucks to get a high floor facing the city as the views are really nice. They also have an Ibis attached to the same complex for about 2/3 the cost. Very guest friendly, as it is on soi 4 you will see plently of guests up and down the elevators. I fondly remember having breakfast there with one of Nana's finest. We sat down next to a HiSo local Thai couple who were horrified at me and my Isan Princess. The look on their faces were priceless - 555.

How do I get the top floor rooms, are those the deluxe rooms? Something I ask for upon check-in?

My first trip to BKK is finally happening this month.

1. Hotel & Soi 7 & outcalls.

Staying at a hotel on soi 7 for ten days. I called the front desk asking policy on girls in rooms. "As long as no overnight. Guests ok. " Later I booked on their website for two adults so maybe I could have a girl overnight. I'll ask again when I get there.

If I order an outcall, do I need to meet the girl in lobby / street and walk her in? Can she just come to my room on her own? If I pull street talent or barfine, can I just walk her in or do I need to stop by the front desk? I suppose I'll figure all this out when I'm there.

I mainly chose the hotel due to relative proximity to Nana plaza and BTS. I didn't realize it was so close to the soi 7 beer bars which look to be a fun, convenient way to barfine girls and walk 2 minutes to my room. But with some girls being there just for show, the ever-changing scene affected by covid, re-openings and police, soi 7 could be hit or miss. I partake in the MILF talent of my home city. Is there a superrich at the airport? I have no idea how easy it will be to get baht ahead of time in Canada plus I know I will need USD for Lao so will bring some with the ATM as a reserve fund LOL. So Taxi should be about 300 give or take plus the the extra 70 for motorway tolls?

Instead, try Thai Friendly as there are a bunch of girls there that are freelancers. It's quite easy to look at profiles to find out who freelances, mark them as favourites but don't waste time contacting them before arrival. Getting Premium WHEN you arrive is a good idea as you can then send unlimited messages. Be polite as many girls will not be freelancers, it's not like Pattaya.
