Her name was bell or belle. ST was 2000 and LT 3500. A bit high, ok. But special quality deserves special remuneration. Cheers. D.

The Airport train will go to MAkkasan. It will not link with the rest of the current BTS. Another great example of Thai planning and foresight.

You got that wrong, I am afraid. I said it was not a big bargain for USD based customer, but cheaper than, say Hong Kong. Delhi Airport is a little cheaper. Overall the margins are around +/- USD 10.00 depending on the item. e.g. last Saturday JW Black was about $31.60 at the airport while Thai Inflight was selling for $30.00

The indicated Taxi fare of B 850 was for total to and fro. The return trip to the airport cost B 500 since I made the rookie's mistake of asking the Hotel reception to keep the cab ready - they organised a non metered cab from the taxi stand right in front of the Hotel.

Yes, B 800 for the WG was very reasonable. But, the "book keepers" on this forum will factor in the cost of the light dinner. It was raining heavily so that could have had a softening impact on the price. By the way, that small Japanese restaurant was reasonably priced too (its up a steep and narrow staircase, just past the 7-11 on the left hand side of the soi).

Frankly, did not have a look at the cigarette prices. Just saw the prices on the chocolates and the liquor/wine. Both were very high compared to all neighboring airports (as mentioned by Duniawala).

    WG's name was Nong.

I was told that it would open in a couple of years. I have seen little progress over the last 12 months so even that sounds optimistic.
Not sure that it will be much of an advantage if it means lugging my always-heavy bag in and out of trains, stations and final taxi to the hotel.

    Only in BKK ...

Well written post. ? WGs name?
Only in BKK is the taxi more than the WG.
The Rembrandt is not a bargain at any price.
When does the skytrain from the airport to Suk open?

I slipped in the customary B 200 for his commitment to let us pass and keep his mouth shut. I was told next morning by the same doorman that the Hotel is not GF, even though you book a double room. The lifts also worked only with the "room key card".

Total cost B 700 plus B 100 for a tip. Had not bargained.

    Total Cost for the "lay"over:

    Hotel Room: US$ 65.00
    Taxis: B 850
    WG: B 800
Light Dinner for two: B 900

    Total Cost (approx) US$ 145

    Total satisfaction : Immense

Wow, that has to be the cheapest 2 shot deal available in Bkk. I think even my non P4P costs more than that LOL

Well that price is unbelievably good already for BKK.

Rembrandt is O.K., but a bit pompous for my liking, still $65 is good bargain for a Hotel in that class bracket (its low season).

I would have spent more money on the girl and a little less on some other things, with the end result of spending more than you I guess.

Great report, and very impressed by your pick-up at a cosmetic counter. Sounds like a perfect evening.

Besides which the relative expense (or not) of a couple of taxi rides and a carton of cigarettes is insignificant (but always seems to attract the discussion...)

I think B850 for a RT taxi trip is more of a rip-off. The duty free is not a bargain for USD based buyers, anymore. But cheaper than a whole lot of airports like HKG.
