Tansak - I don't think we disagree. Some guys want a 500 Baht girl and a 3 Dollar room (right, Pea Beau? ). When I was a young backpacker I only stayed at 5-10 dollar rooms around the world, and had fun with free backpacker girls (those frustrated wild Swedish girls away from home were my favorite). But times change. As a middle aged guy with a busy profession and a family (like most guys on this site), I prefer to spend a little more cash for a taste of the good life.

I've obviously stayed at the Lodge ... I guarantee you I will be there many times Nov 9th thru the 20th.

I'll be there around Nov 17 for a week - let's make trouble for Giotto. He seems to like trouble-makers.

Nice report Archie. I agree that the Lodge exceeds expectations. I disagree that the Lodge 'is not cheap'. By Thai standards, it's mid-range, but it's certainly not expensive; by western standards, it's extremely inexpensive.

You're correct - the food and ambience are great, and Guido and Giotto are the perfect hosts - both are colorful characters in their own smooth quiet way.

Some folks are into the cheapest available (if that is due to their income or whatever it doesn't matter) as that is what they can affoard or are willing to pay. Livingstones is not a short time hotel or a flea bag hotel. You get what you pay for and I personally enjoy livingstones. But some folks want to pay the 30 USD a night for a room. And that is not the Livingstones type of client. My dinner bills are higher then that at Livingstones.

The lodge is anything but sterile and everything ArchieLeach says I think hits it just right. Giotto and Guido are friendly and outgoing and are always there for a drink or to chat to help. I enjoy spending time there and while I personally find the prices more then acceptable, very reasonable, and such, some folks who monger would not.

I've obviously stayed at the Lodge and everytime I am in BKK even if I am not staying there I eat there without a doubt. I enjoy the place, the company and the food and I guarantee you I will be there many times Nov 9th thru the 20th.

It's become obvious from staying here that the place is not intended to appeal to cheap charlies. It's not cheap. The sports bar isn't cheap and the hotel and food aren't cheap. But having said that, I'm actually still convinved that it represents a good value. The hotel isn't shiney new granite and glass, but the things that matter are delivered quite well. The sports bar isn't cheap but the company is definitely worth the investment in my opinion. I'm far more comfortable here than the whole Nana scene. I guess that's the difference. If you're a backpacker looking for cheap digs and cheap women, don't bother. You won't like the prices. But if you're looking for something nicer than that, while still not being the sterile environment of chain hotels, then this is the place for you.

Again, some enjoy it, to each his own, etc., but I might also point out you are exposing your prudery. There is no reason to believe that a busy vagina is a less 'clean' vagina, assuming prophylactics, soap and water, etc. I'll wager just about any Isaan working girl vagina smells better than even the average amatuer Western Vagina. Tip: THB 500, 1000 etc.. for gods sake we are talking about USD 15/30. So we can abuse these girls, even dare to pride ourselves on making them cum, yet we are not willing to cough up lousy extra USD 30.

Brother, 500 is usually my total budget for an encounter, and maybe up to 1,000 on very rare occasions. I hardly ever tip, unless it is clear to both myself and the girl that the experience was really incredibly good. In those cases I part with 100 baht more.

Lastly regarding dark and light, I just don't care one way or the other about skin tone. I do love however, that one can be with a tall, slim, dark-skinned girl who would be considered model material in the US, and she has been told all her life she's 'ugly'. Conversely some short, pudgy, doughy, white blob with a pan-face is chased by all the middle class Thai guys. What a strange and silly country!

Question. I will be staying at a high end hotel and arriving late in the evening. I asked the concierge if they could arrange an in-room massage (their spa will be closed), by a woman, who is friendly. The concierge said no problem, cost 1600 baht.

From your experience, what are the chances of extras?

I am also considering Pegasus, but it may be too late. How late can one go to Pegasus & still have a good selection?
