In order to self isolate you need the permission from the condo. Our condo unfortunately does not allow self isolation. Since the pandemic started there have been 15 cases in our condo, all carted off to hospitals / hospitels.

Yes, I think that a fair prognosis of when sanctions will be lifted, which will put us right at the start of low and very hot season April, May, more or less. Not much help to anyone, certainly not tourists who generally prefer coming in the cooler and dry months.

The volume of customers in Pattaya bars is very predictable. I told my harem during the summer that they would all forget me in High Season, which they did. When Songkran ends, and the customers leave town, the ladies will find my social media contacts again.

I probably should have just stood up and said bye right then and there. But for old time's sake with this girl I didn't. However, I did say, "No, honey. That's two drinks, not one. I'll buy you one now".

Then I waited for her to start entertaining me since I was the paying customer and she was the "entertainment. " But nothing of the kind happened. It was all on me. "How have you been? Good to see some of the bars re-opening. Last time I saw you was at blah blah blah," that sort of thing.

Maybe the fact that I did not allow her to pull a classic scam on what has always lived up to in my opinion the scammiest bar area in Bangkok, Soi Cowboy, put a damper on her mood. Oh well. She downed that coke damn fast and asked if I would buy her another drink. Uh no.

I cut it short, paid my bill, thanked her for her time and stood to leave. The mamasan said, "Why you go? She likes you!" I told her, "She tried to pull that old "coke and tequila" scam on me. You haven't seen me in a while? It's going to be a while longer before you or anybody else on this soi sees me here again. Take care".

I guess I have a low tolerance for bullshit these days. Sometimes I wonder why I ever bother to give Soi Cowboy another chance to prove to me it isn't the scammiest scam bar area in Bangkok if not all of Thailand. As far as I can recall, it had been about a year before Covid that I'd had a minimally acceptable barfine and sex experience with a Soi Cowboy bargirl that wasn't fraught with one scam attempt after another in the bar or in the room. I had put another Soi Cowboy girl from another bar out with only 200 baht just a few weeks ago for pulling some bullshit in the room.

Hey, not that she is homely at all. If she'd been my date at my 50 Year High School Reunion in the USA that was called off last year for Covid, she'd be an off-the-chart 10! The current restrictive Test and Go (and test again. WTF) entry requirements plus the risk of being sent to hospital quarantine are probably going to be scrapped in a couple of months if there are no major spikes in covid cases. Hopefully in 2 or 3 months they will both be gone.

Most expats here in Bangkok have decided that if they get covid that they will quietly isolate at home if the symptons are not too bad. Likewise if one has to go anywhere near a PCR test it is best to take a good ATK / Rapid test before hand. Would not be great to have to spend 14 days in Hospital Q.

One point on ATK or Rapid Tests. Many Thai pharmacies have a cheaper version, THB 75 or so. They are not very accurate. The more expensive tests that are around THB 200 from Boots or Watsons are much more reliable, not perfect but way better than the generic ultra cheap test.

That's actually not the real bill. That's the deposit. Usually the deposit amount covers more than the expected total bill. The balance would be refunded after discharge and settlement of the bill.

Max, I have to ask you a question. Do you personally know any expats living here who tested positive and had to quarantine in a hospital or field hospital or hotel? I ask because I do not know of any. Myself and one of my friends tested positive at Bumrungrad hospital (we knew we were positive but wanted to get early treatment to speed up the recovery process). Never of us were required to quarantine in the hospital or any other government required facility. We were allowed to quarantine in our condos The Thai health department was notified and they checked on us regularly by phone. They also notified our condos management teams with our positive status and instructions for taking care of us for 14 days. I. E. Delivering any take out food or other online purchases from the market directly to our rooms. We were given the option of going to a specific hotel for 14 days for 150,000 Thai baht which we declined.

Tourists on the other hand would probably have no options besides a hospital or a quarantine designated hotel. Thankfully they did treat us as expats a little differently by allowing us to stay in our seperate condos.
