I can confirm an example of your news from the grapevine. In March one of my Butterflies girls went home to Buriram and lived with family on the farm. About 2 weeks ago she was part of a 4 girl group of friends who went to BKK. They worked in various Nana and Cowboy places. None of them collected salary, only commissions on a few drinks. I don't know if any of them got bar fined. All four girls are now traveling back to Buriram.

Walked through Cowboy at about 10:30 pm last night. It was bleak. Peeked into some of the bars and there were very few customers, even in some of the more popular bars. Lower drink prices and lower BFs have just not brought the locals in past the initial euphoria of the bars opening up again. From what I have heard down the grapevine, many bars are not paying salaries rather letting gals work basically as FLs. Without tourists (and it looks like it will be a long time before quarantine free travel is allowed, who knows maybe even next year), I don't see how they survive. I'd suggest to any owner, 100 Baht drinks and LDs, BF no more than 500 Baht and tell the gals no more than 1500ST. At those prices you might actually be able to get a few more locals in and at least pay the bills.

It's amazing how the entire GoGo scene has changed in the two decades I have been here. Back in the day, it was where you met your mates to drink. Why? Beers were 80 Baht (2 USD at the time). It was one of the cheapest places to drink and of course the gals. Over the years just about any other place aside from the hotels and high end restaurants became cheaper places to meet up and drink. The formula kept both the locals and tourists in the bars. The locals saw the bars through the long low season as well. Gals were paid under 10 k a month to dance. They made their money, well, that goes without saying. With the advent of coyotes and agency gals operating costs increased and drink prices and BFs climbed along with gal's salaries. Gals now are making 30 k a month which is enough to survive on, so they can hold out for huge ST fees. With the current situation we will continue to see prices for ST and LT decrease, that is if the gals do indeed want to make money. After the end of Sept when amnesty runs out, they will really have to rely on the locals. I imagine this will impact Pattaya more than it will BKK. Probably more amnesty dudes in Patters as opposed to BKK. Mid Oct might be a really great time for a Pattaya trip!

I have noticed a few mamasans taking a much more proactive interest in asking me what kind of girl I want, making the brief rounds to screen for it and bringing me an eager candidate. Not all mamasans, to be sure. But some. Only 1 or 2 mamasans in town were even vaguely interested in doing something so useful in their job prior to the shutdown.

I suspect in some cases the mamasans are on commission only terms as well and the girls have to pay them their 500 baht or whatever commission when they return to the bar for scoring them a customer they might never have scored without her help.

Yes most of the girls at Artbox used to be civilian girls at least when I used to go. The other hipster market similar to Artbox that used to be open on selected weekends was The Knack Market. Lots of nice girls used to go there as well. Not sure it still operate. I miss the Bangkok markets like Rot Fai and JJ Market almost as much as I miss the bars.

This is my speculation and opinion only. I think those girls at Artbox are civilians or working girls who aren't actually working at the time. That Nana-Asoke corridor has a lot of hotels and I'd bet a lot of outcall girls after finishing a job might head to Artbox to meet their friends. There are definitely outcall girls whose agency photos I can tell were taken at Artbox.

Yes, that is always possible. I did see a few girls sitting with friends who looked like they "could" make money hooking. But they certainly behaved as though they were off the clock and determined to keep it that way, not just toward me but toward any of the many single, double and groups of men all around. Maybe that accounts for some reports I read of girls approached there quoting 3,000 baht for ST and sticking to it.

Now, the largest crowds I ever saw back there was during the general bar lockdown and when you could not drink alcohol in a restaurant but ARTBOX managed to dodge getting busted for breaking the rules back there on the far side of the park. Since the bar reopenings and alcohol consumption in restaurants is allowed, the crowds back there have been notably smaller.

BTW, the new rumor is the owner is telling the vendors she might be able to keep things going a bit longer after all. But that might also be setting the stage for raising the cost of their rent from the discounted rate she allowed for a couple of months during and after the lockdown to higher than it was before the lockdown.

Construction isn't the reason a couple of food vendors in the place are being told the closure will happen as soon as the 1st of next month. Yes, there was going to be construction eventually, but not necessarily so soon. They were told the owner of the night market project can't pay back as many deposits she is required to return to the vendors who bailed due to the lockdown and lack of customers and pay rent on the site for another month.

My goal is to keep things under control as much as possible and limit the number of Line ID's on my phone to essential repeat girls only. Otherwise my Line account would be inundated with 100's of ID's and I would not know who the hell is who.

I remember a time when as soon as you got your phone out in a go-go bar a mamassn would be rushing up to you trying to prevent you exchanging numbers with the girl. Is that still the case or can you safely exchange Line these days in a go-go?

I only know pre-COVID, but never would I be given Line ID openly in the bar. She would go to a back room, write it down, and hand it to me later. I sometimes carry 2 or 3 pieces of paper with my Line ID so I could easily give mine to her.
