I bought mine in Germany. TBH I really don't know exactly what type of mask it is. I was told its good quality. I bought it just before I left Frankfurt on 18 March arriving in a chaos that you guys won't imagine. Never took it off the entire trip except to drink water. I don't know the shelf life of these things, been using it since.

Unfortunately most of the masks are single use masks. You use it one day and throw it away. There are some with changeable filters that are reusable. If you continue to use the same mask you are likely to infect yourself from your own mask if you were unlikely enough to be in a situation where you actually needed the mask and it protected you from the virus. But now the mask is contaminated and should be discarded. By continuing to use the same mask you will at least be protecting others from your infection.

If you Have N 95 masks it offers some protection if it is right fit.

Wearing whatever masks can only offer you psychological protection.

The value of the home made or surgical masks is not to protect yourself. The point is to protect others in case you are sick (and maybe don't know it). Your coughs and sneezes are kept more local if you are wearing something over your mouth and nose. Keep in mind that USA has an extreme shortage of masks and other medical PPE. The USA government is trying to maximize the good stuff for the medical professionals.

USA had many available on February 1 at medical supply houses. The disposable N95 masks were $2. 00 each, but that is not what was recommended at the time for travelers. They had boxes of 50 ASTM level 2 masks for about $20, which is what I bought for my trip to Thailand.

Those days are long past.
