Chrono, Thailand is no longer a destination for the budget traveler. Sure some guys like Mr. E have success but he is a local and has done this long enough to know how to handle Thai girls. If you want cheap budget destinations go to Phnom Penh or Jakarta where girls and hotels are a fraction of the cost. I know you were looking for hostels in Bangkok. You can get hotel rooms in these cities cheaper than hostels in Bangkok. A flight to Phnom Penh is about 3000 baht / 100 USD round trip. Girls are about 1500 baht all night. I've never been but I understand Angeles City is cheap as well.

Don't come to Pattaya thinking it's cheaper than Bangkok. In fact, barfines at gogo bars are more in Pattaya than in Bangkok. In Pattaya I guess you can go to Beach Road and Soi 6 but don't go expecting the hottest working girls these areas.

The expats who you spoke with speak the truth. Thai girls get attached to guys over time if you have a bit of game. Expats get 'freebies' from Thai girls. It's one of the benefits of living here.

I'm working the thaifriendly and thaicupid sites, but so far all the 20 somethings seem to be looking for falang millionaires. And just looking around Bangkok its as rich as any 1st world city. A square mile of huge skyscraper palatial building. I chatted to some of the local expat with 5+ years expertise and they say just socialise with as many girls as possible then after a month some of them will use you for a revenge fuck or sex for comfort when they feel down. I'm not staying here long enough for that + you end up spending more money on drinks over a month as you would as a 5000 baht ST. So I don't see it as clever way to play the system.

What is your budget? The guy you quoted is on who gets manipulated by the women of Thailand too as his post just below your's states he paid just under 5000 b for an overnight of just 2 CIMs. It's not hard to find a freelancer on TC or TF where it's normally 2 k for ST but can be negotiated. The same can be said walking the Soi for 1000-2000 b for ST. You'll have to walk up and down a few times, but the time spent is a half hour to an hour to find an FL with a decent to good looking face and a slim to average body. The beer bars have older FLs but you'll run into a more jaded one here than elsewhere. The GoGo bars are just the sure bets meaning you get to see the body and negotiate as well. Because of this and the atmosphere, you pay a premium. Is it worth the upcharge, for some with deep pockets, it is. It's very convenient to walk in, have beers, enjoy some eye candy, pick what you want, then leave for your ST or LT. It's very well worth it especially when you become a regular and know the girls and how they are back in the room. But this isn't for everyone. The moral of the story is, if you're on a budget, you'll have to do more work. Khaosan road has some local girls, but if you're old fat crusty white guy, then you got no chance.

But let's just lay some facts out, ST at a decent GoGo bar starts at around 3000 thb, Barfine 1000 thb, drinks maybe 1000 thb. Adds up to 5000 thb on my calculator, excluding taxi fares and tips. Guys are spending 5 - 10 k at GoGo bars for ST, but I guess that's acceptable in your books.

I'm mid 30's as well but living in Bangkok. I hardly do Gogos anymore these days. It's a complete waste of money I think.

I used to enjoy it years ago. Even my condo was just around the corner of Soi Cowboy. At that time, barfines were still 600, girls were happy with 1500-2000ST, and there were some pretty hot and young fresh-from-the-farm girls. As always, these things very much depend on the particular girl and the girls' chemistry or response to your total package. And, yes, sometimes that does mean the SIZE of your package. LOL. The Nana FL / SW scene has extended down soi 4 to basically the Novotel Ibis hotels on the left, and the large 7-11 on the right. Lots of choices of all stripes on Friday night. Multiple acceptable choices IMO. I guess my intel would be don't stop at the NPL, keep going down the street past the Rajah plaza for more selection.

Everyone is free to to monger how ever they like. However, I would caution that your post smells of desperation and the girls can sense this from miles away. This is when unrealistic demands and poor service become the norm.

It's an old adage but always be prepared to walk away (there are literally '000's to choose from). That's when the girls will be more reasonable and accommodating.

All in all my 1st impression here is Bangkok for western mongers is a dead man walking. I predict even the gullable Koreans and Japs who spend 5000 baht on drinks in the gogo bars will wise up in the next few years. Soi Cowboy wasn't that busy this Friday even though its supposed to be high season. Its propped by the memory of the good times 30 years ago and youtube vids that show women but don't tell the huge prices.

I won't give up yet, my hotel is booked for a week. Next attempt is to as ask the scooter drivers where the Thai locals go to mong, but I suspect it'll yield 40 yo + women. For that I think I can just pick them up on Thai friendly, or in my home country.
