Decided to try out a few of the strip joints last week and Applebees was an experience to say the least. Went there on impulse around 2am last Thursday. Firstly the taxi struggled to find it and stopped to ask some dodgy people hanging around. He got out to speak to them, and one started circling the car staring at me which was freaking me out. He jumped out of the car to get me change and then the guy in the back started to ask for money for the directions. I probably should have given him some but felt stuborn so he got abit abusive. Finally the driver came back with my change and before I got out he warned me to go staight in and not to stop outside because the area was dangerous. I was in half a mind to just leave as I was abit scared but the adrenalin was pumping too so I jumped out and headed for the entrance.

I climbed the stairs and stopped at the top. There was a locked gate to my right and no sign of anyone else and again I was freaking. I heard a voice and finally saw a little grate in the wall to pay through. It was 300 or 400 and I handed over 500. Just then two guys had followed me up the stairs and were crowding behind me and touching my arm. A security guard appeared behind the gate and I asked him to let me in but he shook his head and smiled at me. From reading here I have decided to stay at Terminal a couple of days when I arrive to Nairobi late October. But I looked the place up in my guide book (Rough Guide to Kenya 2010 ed.) and much to my surprise it says "No guests after 7pm". That can't be true or can it? And what about Downtown Hotel next door?

The Terminal hotel is known for being a bare-bones backbacker hotel (notice I didn't say cheap). To repeat what has already been said here by others, go to the Central Park Hotel and be done with it. Hell, even the short time hotel (700shs) right around the corner from the Central park is better than the Terminal. BTW, keep this one in mind for the girls that don't have identification or are suspect for other reasons.
