I'm going to have to call "bull shit" on this nairobi nights girl. I think that it's just someone trying to cash in on the trend for working girls to write autobiographies after that one girl in London made a tonne of money from her Belle de Jour book and TV series which resulted in several working girls writing similar books.

Would make me laugh if, as part of her research, she reads ISG, LOL.

I have gotten e-mails from loads of malayas, and their writing abilities are far below this nairobi nights girl. Most of them struggle with spelling and complete sentences. This girl has at least a basic university degree, and I think that even an English major would have better career options than being a malaya in Kenya.

I came across this blog, supposedly written by a Nairobi hooker, working on Koinange Street with stories about the adventures of a working girl in Nairobi.

If it's really written by the girl she must have at least an university education, looking at the style and the "philosophies" of the short stories.

On the other hand it might come from a clever journalist (or probably ghost-writer) , also because it seems to be a somehow commercial undertaking, as one can subscribe to the stories, listen to audio-clips or even order an "E-book", all for money of course, all be it just a few shillings.

The stories are entertaining though.

Chester does seem favourite for location and price. Would like cheaper but cannot find anything central. Does anyone know of any good self-catering apartments for rent in central nairobi?

Prices starting from 90$, very central, walking distance from All hot spots. Large apartments, secure access, not newly built but accommodating.

Since these hotels have not been mentioned, do I assume they are not GF? ALso, does anyone else have a GF hotel besides the Chester House? I have RTFF, but not much in there about this, and the last time I was in Nairobi it cost me almost double to bring in company!

I used that last time I was here a few years ago and it was great, very GF with at least 3 different ways in. However prices seem to have gone through the roof there now.

P. S. A note to Jackson. As a fellow stickler for proper punctuation and a grammarian like yourself, you should know that since you changed your server / software, there is a sort of fascistic spell / grammar-check in effect which works to the detriment of expository writing.

For example, in the above post I have tried to convince your software that I really do want the word "won't" WITHOUT an apostrophe (I. E."tendency" or "inclination") , but your server is convinced I am a dolt and mean to type the contraction of "will not."

I have similar beef : I always like to make a distinction between an absolute statement (which is supposed to end with a period or an exclamation mark, if I remember right) and what I'd like to call a "trailing thought" which would apply in situations where I don't (yet) have a strong opinion. I like to end my trailing thoughts with multiple periods (.) to indicate that I feel somewhat ambivalent about what I just said, but that gets always "corrected" on ISG to a single period.

2. : I like to hyphenate as well, but that always seems to be a red flag to ISG's "Grammar Nazi"

3. We were taught in GrammarSchool that you use " I. E." in order to explain something in greater detail. The ISG spell checker, without fail, changes that to "I. E" which according to my old Latin teacher just ain't the same.

In any case. And never mind grammar and interpunctation irritants. I'd encourage you to check out the scene in Kampala before you visit MBA. There ain't much likelyhood that the super hot Uganda girls who I met in MBA are the only ones reared in that culture.

Yes, it's sad that the quality of the forum software has deteriorated so much with the new vBulletin™ Version 4. 1.0. I'm glad I didn't renew my ISG subscription!

However, there is a work around for some of the Nazi spell check madness: Insert some BB Code to break up the character sequence.

Well spotted, very good tales of the night. I think every member should read the seven tales. This reminds me of 'Belle de Jour, diaries of a call girl' serialised in a newspaper, a book and two series on the television back home. Based on a working girl in London paying her way through medical school. The publishing house like your Kenyan girl will have had a ghost writer to add that extra 'je ne sais quoi! 'The media at the time were desperate to find out the girl's real identity, while many normal girls found that the oldest profession in the world was more attractive than they orignally thought!

I hope the girl in this case makes something out of it because when I walk to Madhouse, I pass those girls on Koinange St and it is definitely not the upper end of the business, in a really quite menacing environment.

I liked the expression such as referring to a pro as : "dealers in horizontal refreshments"
