I have lived in Africa for over 8 years and I get sick and tired of these black Americans who have never been to Africa but demand to be called African Americans. It gets more funny when Africans go the USA and become USA citizens and call themselves African Americans which gets some of these black Americans upset. These particular black Americans are justifiably bitter given they, unlike most of their African counterparts, are descendants of slaves and still today, unfortunately, continue to experience discrimination in their own country. Deep down I think they resent the fact that Africans and Caribbeans, since independence, have had complete control over their countries while black Americans have not. Even Obama did not have the same negative experience of many black Americans with his Kenyan father not being a descendant of slaves and his mother being white. I wonder if a black American with both parents being black and born in the USA would have had the same success becoming President.

Nice to hear that you do not seem to harbour that same resentment and you are getting on with your life without worrying about who is an African American and who is not.
