I was around last year at the same time. Also that time the tide was very high and took away some parts of the wall. It was partly impossible to walk from big tree to pirates. At that time the manager was pretty relaxed about it. He said that every year around July / August the water comes up like this. This year, however, seems to be a bit worse.

By the way one of the users here has a very big, comfortable and modern apartment very close to big tree. If anyone is interested please PM me and I will set up the contact.

Any input about the room rates of bigtree would be highly appreciated though.

Stayed there last summer.

Nice, clean, good security.

WiFi worked reasonably well in the apartments my friend / travel buddy and I each rented and for around $40 a night, on the beach, all was good.

Even the on site restaurant Suli Suli has an excellent chef.

But my friend is there as we speak; the elevator is out and will be for his whole stay (it was last summer too, but this obviously is no longer an anomaly). His WiFi hasn't worked in days, the water pressure for.

The shower is practically non- existent.

Can anyone make another suggestion for booked trips in April and July of next year?

Priorities are:

Security, security and more security (in room safe to 24 hour gatehouse).

Clean, near or on beach.

Balcony.

Good On site or nearby restaurant.

Frankly, other than WIFI and water pressure Cowrie is pretty damn good with a location near Mtwapa and Nyali that is perfect.

Any other suggestions or are we too picky at that price point?

You can ask on the DR board, but as recently as a couple of months ago, Viagra and its genetic equivalent were available for sale at any pharmacy or even supermarket without a prescription. Pretty much any drug was.

I remarked the information from a good source around 10 days ago, but I don't't remember from where. They said the prescription requirement is very recent. The most sold products are "la pela" and "mambo 36" and are cialis generica produced in the DR and last 36 hours. Many young folks take them and when the effect is not coming they take an overdose and many take alcohol meanwhile, so health is compromised. Good idea to consult the DR board.

Interesting would be to read the autopsy report from the coroner at Pandia Hospital. If he was not murdered a cause of death could be heart stroke and then he felt into the water and the fishes began to eat into his flesh. So by the way a high percentage of the older expat population are very sexually active in Mtwapa and when they indulge in drinking alcohol excessively and use more or less viagra / vega the heart is at risk. Some people I know died for this reason. A bit crude statement but the young sexy girls can be dangerous for old men. Or men in general as I read recently a report that in the Dominican Republic viagra and similar are new only available on medical prescription because of abuse and excessive use by the YOUNG population.

Still easy to get viagra over the counter in pharmacies and non pharmacies in Santo Domingo. There is generic and name brand (Pfizer) viagra as well as Cialis everywhere.

I don't think many people die from viagra in the DR, or anywhere else (unless someone stupidly gives them nitrates, such as sublingual nitroglycerin). Nothing in life is totally risk free, not even sex.

That might be; that he was murdered. Murders in Kenya are just about as common as they are in any other African country (or south American country, or even North American country. Judging from Paddocks latest handiwork).

If that expat lived for long in Kenya and he was actually killed, may be it was probably not just because he was an expat, but because may be he tried to steal another man's wife or he did some other similarly aggressive thing. I know many expats happily living in Kenya who have not been found dead and are unlikely to be found dead because they try to keep safe. All I can say is that we should try to keep safen whatever we do. But sometimes shit just happens.

Clearly deep Machete wounds. But more convenient. Eaten by fish. Another case closed. But there was the case of a German woman which was stabbed several times. Of course it turned out to be suicide. The kenyan boyfriend inherited the house. That's how things are done in Kenya. A suitable kito kidogo. And nobody is interested in Expat murders. Bad publicity. So. He was eaten by fish. Hehe. Very convenient.

The owner of Safari Inn organized a ceremony and his ashes were spread into the Mtwapa Creek.

Yes. He lived 30 years there. Was murdered apparently when he was fishing. Not safe to be Swiss these days. Most of these jobs are inside jobs. Usually about money, jealousy, inheritance. A contract kill sets you back only a couple of 100 dollars. As a tourist you face primarily violent muggings. Just stay calm, hand over anything you have. The fire was near Bamburi beach resort. In most cases. Insurance fraud...

Those SW are always around there Zimzam, they are in that area for the passing truck drivers and locals. No way you want to try them when plenty others floating around.

I noticed some SW's around the corner of the main road to Malindi and the Links Road (the road that goes into Nyali). This is near the two malls (Nakumatt and Naivas) , just at the entrance of Bob's Bar.

I have seen them on the street there in the weekend, haven't been there in the weekdays.

I didn't talk to them, as I was with company.

BTW, of all the clubs in that area (Anuba, the Lounge, Tapa's etc.) I believe Club Hypnotica has the best sound system. All these places don't have a proper dance-floor, as most people (mostly well-to-do Kenyans) come to drink. But every here & there people dance as they feel like.

Hypnotica has the added advantage that you don't have to pay 1000 for entrance.

If you come back later in the night to Casuarina you really see how run-down that place is, with a very run-down sound system.

On the other hand, it seems that Nakumatt is slowly running bankrupt or something like that. I heard that some of their stores have closed and also in the Nyali branch more & more empty shelves can be seen.
