I was wondering if anyone could give me a good tip about where I could rent a car in Mtwapa or surroundings. Preferably not from a company.
Your assistance will be very much appreciated.

Posts: 478Train between mombasa and nairobi, better to fly
I wrote to Nairobi forum about this train between Mombasa and Nairobi. My conclusion, better to fly. Now it is easy to get cheap flights, because of this new train.

Bit tree security guys, they are not so strict asking ID: s as before, I guess it changed when that Italian owner went back to Europe? But I think taking two girls is still not possible, in my last trip in springtime I took short time girl, her friend was supposed to wait in my kitchen, but security came to kick the second girl away.

By the way one of the users here has a very big, comfortable and modern apartment very close to big tree. If anyone is interested please PM me and I will set up the contact.
Any input about the room rates of bigtree would be highly appreciated though.

Posts: 390Big Tree against the Ocean
Sorry, I can't give you more info about what's going on in the night there, but what struck me is that I found about half of the Big Tree entertainment area has been washed away by the waves of the Ocean.
So the dancefloor and the so-called VIP section are just washed away with some ruined floors and walls remaining.
Also nowadays at high tide the waves are reaching both the sitting areas (inside and the "islands" where the girls are waiting for their "Princes" have now become real islands at high tide.).
The normal entrance to go to the beach is blocked by huge, sharp rocks, so it takes some manoeuvering to get into the water.
I don't know what is the cause of all this, the rising sealevel, the climate change, el Nio, or whatever.
Concerning the food I would say it is OK mostly, but it can take some time, especially when many orders are running at the same time.

A big thanks to Neddy for keeping us up to date and all the valuable information shared. He is a true pioneer of mongering!
About Big Tree I really like the place for its location, bar and partly the staff! In an other thread Neddy mentioned that you shouldn't pay more than 3000 kes / night. According to my information they have rooms for 2500, a big apartment for 4500 and most of the 'apartments' go for 3500. Am I really the only idiot as a return visitor paying that rate of 3500?
Also, a friend of mine told me that Thomas (the night security guy at the gate) is nowadays collection IDs from female visitors at night. Has anyone recently experienced the same? I always preferred the anonymity of my visitors in front of nosy guys like him. Lolz.
Would be great if someone could share his experience!

2 swiss nationals were killed on Friday and the bodies dumped on the roadside near kiembeni. They arrived at the airport at night and were picked up by the janitor of the residence they were staying in Nyali. They never arrived.
It looks to be an inside job. Probably they resisted and were killed outright. So I don't see tourism recover with these incidents.
Neddy
PS. Below other recent incidents German tourist killed in kilifi and Italian
