IMHO reaction from governments of GB and US are overacting to keep tourists away from Kenya. And concerning the sad story of the Russian lady who was shot in Mombasa: how many people including tourists die from gun fire per annum in the US? Even after after 9/11 nobody told them to stay away from New York. But Kenya is said to be dangerous although it's a hand full of tourists who became victims in the extreme west close to Lamu last years. This policy leads to big problems for common people because tourism brings more foreign currency than any other industrial sector.

As mentioned before, in Kenya you have to be very carefully crossing the road because all cars are coming from the wrong side.

Nowhere is safe today. I feel unsafe in the US. Don't even think about flying Malaysia Airlines or going anywhere near Russia, China, Korea, the Middle East, or certain parts of Africa.

If Mombasa got a lot more dangerous it would still be safer than my neck of the woods. But then again, Kenya is on the news almost everyday now. Not sure if this is just more media coverage on normal stuff that goes on in that country or a spike in violence. Different type of crime there, I would say its not safe and not worth it.

Yeah, world has gone to shits after Obama (most likely not his fault). But seriously, can't go anywhere without potentially being hit by a bullet or a typhoon or a stray missile.

And yes Shabab do attack brothers and sisters, don't you see what they're doing in their own country. World going nuts.

I returned from a nice trip to Uganda and Kenya last month. I have been working extremely long hours since I returned, and also butting up against some of the administration's policies and Illinois' distain for innovation (the greying man in the WH got his start there). So forgive me if I have no love for such.

I may post my trip report this weekend since it will be first weekend since mid June that I will have gotten more than 3 hours of sleep on the weekend.

I'm reading news about safety problems.

After all Mombasa is safe. Apparently most mates enjoy their stay in Kenya and evidently they come back in a good condition. When you visit Kenya for the first time you will be likely one of the hundred-thousands of tourists who don't become victim of Al Shabab. Newspapers write normally about the tourist as victims and not about the overwhelming majority of people having peaceful and relaxing holidays.

Since more than 25 years I am going to Kenya and was never attacked. I always met nice people and had nice company. Since more than 1 year I have rented an apartment for long-term at Pirates Beach. Now I have got what I wanted. 100 qm / sqm apartment on 3rd floor situated directly at (with view to) the Indian Ocean next to Big Tree (if interested PM me). Very girl friendly because it's only yourself who decides whom to let in or not.

Pirates Beach should be very safe, because lot of Muslims swimming there, especially on weekends. Normally Al Shabab doesn't attacked brothers and sisters. Nice to go in the afternoon to Big Tree or have a walk at the beach. Impossible not to meet beauties who are willing to take a tea with you at home or stay overnight.

When I visited Kenya last May I still went to Mombasa and Mtwapa day and night, even took matatu or tuktuk back home in the middle of the night.

Nowhere is safe today. I feel unsafe in the US. Don't even think about flying Malaysia Airlines or going anywhere near Russia, China, Korea, the Middle East, or certain parts of Africa. But since I know we all will someday have a tombstone as a headboard, I do not concern myself with living in fear of dying.

Now if you decide to go to Kenya, I would recommend not hanging out too long in populated venues like nightclubs and malls. Renting a sedan vice taking matatus or buses is best.

Lastly, the world is a much better place because of Obama. NOT!

Russian tourist succumbs to gunshot injury in Mombasa.

A Russian tourist succumbed to gunshot injury in Mombasa in Sunday, moments after she was shot on the forehead.

Mombasa county's director of health Dr Hadija Shikeli confirmed that the tourist died while in the theatre at Mombasa hospital.

The bullet was lodged in her head.

The young tourist was shot while touring a historical site in Mombasa.
According to the police, the tourist was touring Fort Jesus a 16th century Portuguese-built fort and a Unesco World Heritage Site with two other people when three gunmen opened fire and grabbed a bag containing cameras, phones and other personal belongings. -

"She has been rushed to hospital and an investigation and search for the attackers launched," Mombasa's deputy divisional police chief Tom Okoth confirmed moments after the incident.


Last month the Shebab, which has carried out a number of attacks on Kenyan soil in retaliation for Kenyas military intervention in Somalia, warned foreign tourists to stay out of Kenya.

Kenya is now officially a war zone and as such any tourists visiting the country do so at their own peril, the group said in a statement less than three weeks ago. -

This is a sad, even allarming story. However it shoud be noted that another source quotes that the tourists were struggling with the attackers who were armed robbers.

This are the real prices what the local paid but the girls ask the tourist more special in the costal area and Nairobi.

It is like the National parks the price for a tourist is high 80 $ and for a citizen 20 $ the hotels the same.

That is why I always advise to contact a local contact to make your reservations it is the same as all over the world tourist pay more except they have a local to arrange it for them.

Of course you must pay your local but you save more and they know the best places.

Are there many Tourists?

No tourists. The situation severely effect the tourism industry for a long time now.

My source is my ex-girl which we chat on WhatsApp, She blame the media claiming that they cover the crime/war way out of proportion, but I blame the Kenyan authorities.

In Thailand the Army arrest many taxi drivers in Phuket for being a Mafia with high price of taxies. The army/police said that less tourist coming because of that and the government loss income. I wish the kenya Authorities had 1/10 of that intelligence or awareness regarding the situation in their own country.
