I was in Kenya earlier this month, with 1 week in Nairobi and 1 week in Mombasa. It was my first visit to Kenya.

I had a coffee date with one girl in Mombasa whom I met via Tinder. I didn't talk about sex during the Tinder chat and didn't mention payment. Tuk tuks get no more respect than bikes from cars and matatus and they offer no safety of impact. The best time to use matatus is when the roads are busy as they can not pick up speed. When roads are quiet and they speed then they are more dangerous. Even cars, in 20_years of living and holidaying in Kenya I have yet to meet a Kenyan that can actually drive reasonably well. Kenyans are not able to anticipate any danger on a road. They can anticipate money though.

You get hit on a bike it is likely you have serious problems, a tuk tuk a little bit of a chance.

However, traffic gets out of the way of the Matatus you just hope the driver does not hit a lorry or car head on.

The real question is, is it the traffic or the girls which is more dangerous?

You're right East Africa is not Thailand in this regard.

However, times are changing in Africa too. There are a couple of places in Nairobi where I've seen ladyboys recently. The Alchemist bar in Westlands had a group of ladyboys on both nights I visited there. People didn't pay any attention and most guys are there to pick girls anyway.

Matatu isn't safe at all. The wrecks near Nakuru involve tractor trucks smashing into busses and matatus. When it rains bodas and pedestrians take cover under covered vending areas. Most who are killed in these accidents are not driving but taking refuge off the road.
I’ve been hit twice by bicycles, once by a car mirror and once by a Matatu door while walking on the shoulder. They yell at you for being in their way.
Just imagine a road derby where 5 qualified drivers are to navigate though a course filled with 50 vehicles of every type and disrepair driven by Monkeys who are staring out of the side window, amusing themselves with a phone and randomly honking. That is the best way to describe the roadways of Kenya.

The Boda pulled into the nearly baren parking lot and said he knew a better place called Screenshot. Half expecting to be taken to a remote area and get rolled, I zipped up all my pockets and agreed to go. I was surprised that he took me to a clean, new club called The Screenshot Lounge. Many ladies and one other Mzungu. I don't normally take out from nightspots but, sometimes I can't help myself: in the end, she's from near where I live in Western Kenya.
