    Thanks all

Thanks all for your input. It was not my intention to start arguments on Mtwapas pros and cons.

I know there were some earlier reports on lodging in Mtwapa, was just checking if there were any updates.

Question though, has anyone stayed at the Mtwapa Creek Cottages? They look promising. And, has anyone stayed at Kerstins apartments? Looks like a small place, are different female guests allowed? Looks like though that since I will be staying for only 9 days this time, I might just follow the suggestion of taking Kahamas, even though I really would not need the luxury and AC. Kendas Ocean view, where I stayed last time, I will avoid.

    Thanks, Bide

I loved being in Mtwapa precisely for the lack of pretense and comfort. If you need A / C, don't go there. If a fan is fine, there are many reasonable places. John Palmer and I and others have written abundantly about them, including Merry Villas.

    Favorit kahama

If you stay only 7 days in mombasa, than is kahama perfeckt option. If longer than toerist must look to budjet. For longer than 7 days, than one appartment will by one option. 1800ksh per day in appartment Mtwapa or 3750 ksh perfeckt room in Kahama. Choise

If you are in need of AC stay with the hotels. I don't need AC as I don't feel it's uncomfortable without it at any time of the year.

I don't have access to my photos at the moment but happy to send you pics of my place in a couple of days, just to give you an idea. This one isn't available for short term but the flats around this area are all pretty much built to the same standard and there are some of them available for short let.

I keep my place all year round. It's an 800 sq ft flat and I pay 15, 000 KES per month. It makes sense for me as I spend more than 180 days per year there.

    Let me know

I respect everybody's opinion but calling Mtwapa a shitty place is out of order. I'm European and find it very comfortable there. What is so special about Kahama? It's a fairly low class place and doesn't offer anything that I can't have in my flat.

I choose to live local and blend in over being the outsider in the hotel.

It's really not about comfort it's just a matter of choice. Do you want to get laid with some exciting chick in mtwapa or hang on to the old kikuyu mares that are overpopulating the bars in proximity to the hotels. I know which one I prefer

    Bringing girls to your room

There is an alternative. Especially in Mtwapa many of the ladies of the night have their own flats. Consider going back to theirs instead of bringing them to your place. Most of their flats are in walking distance of the typical Mtwapa night spots. Isn't that convenient?

    Be vigilant

Quite a few posts in this forum where people are concerned about their safety.

My advice. Be vigilant, establish a basic level of trust before you get down to business. In conversation establish a few facts that are easy to verify. If somebody lies about small things, chances are you might be heading for a bigger surprise.

In generally I ask girls a few things like where their native home is, what tribe they are, what their native name is and whether they can teach me a sentence in their native language. Never forget that Swahili is not their first language. I mask this usually as genuine interest in the country and the people and most girls are forthcoming. If they are not, really don't want to talk about I will make my excuses and go. If they do it is very often easy to verify if what they say is correct, just familiarise yourself a bit with the country and you won't get fooled that easily.

Also, you won't get drugged and / or robbed in the first place if you follow a few simple rules. I never leave an open drink unattended. Not in any place of the world be it Africa, Europe, America or Asia. Don't give anyone the opportunity to slip something into your drink. If I need to leave my drink behind I will rather buy another one.

In general I would say though that especially in Mtwapa the risk is very low. This is not Nairobi. Tourists are still a major driver of further development. Nobody really wants to spoil this. Wazungu love affairs are the motor of Mtwapa. That won't change in a hurry

    Thanks Harry.

Forgot to mention. Luos are generally very proud and they pay much attention to appearance and style and are attracted to style and confidence likewise. Please do not negotiate with a Luo lady, dress well and be confident and you will like the experience. She will be the perfect girl friend. Don't pay her for sex either, be creative. Take her out to nice places, show that you have taste, keep her for as long as you want. She won't be asking you for money. At the end give her a generous donation suggesting that she might want to buy some fashionable things and it will be a very pleasant experience for both of you. I dare everyone to give it a try. Its a different experience to the cheap shag you get on every corner.

There are some Kikuyu ladies with fair complexion but they are not much fun in the sack, have funny figures and last but not least, money will always be their no. 1 topic. You will find a fair share of light skin Somalian girls, but in my experience stay away from them. They are definitely the worst.

If you are ready to embrace the many dark and lovely girls you will have a good choice. I had two GFs from coastal tribes in the past and they had massive booties, so big in fact that they would have to buy two jeans sizes larger just to accommodate their behind.

My recommendation however will always be the same: Go for the Luo babes. They are usually dark but are the prettiest and have the nicest figures. They are also amazing dancers, good cooks and brilliant lovers.

One man's meat is another man's poison as they say. So this is obviously just me being opinionated. If I have stepped on anyone's toes please forgive me. I'm just contributing what I learnt from 10 years in Kenya.
