No immediate plans to get another VISA but I would / will explore in more detail either directly with the airline or in person at the air terminal (I had a 12 month visa 18 months ago but KY was requiring vaccines at the time so I happily ended up back in Dar).

Airlines get big fines if you are refused entry and have to return you so they can be strict about letting you fly.

However, a police officer can detain you if you do not produce ID when required if he has reasonable suspicion of something, for example are you in Kenya legally?
So if your stopped for ID you either pay something to get rid of the officer or you go off to the station if you stand your ground. You have not broken a law by not carrying it but you will then have to produce that ID, such as get someone to bring it to the station.

These days the police in Mtwapa are stopping people on the streets to check if they carry their ID or passport and they also check if you have a valid visa.
I heard about cases of people being be taken to the police station.
