Has anyone stayed at the Ya'mas hotel? any good/bad to report?

Sorry I think the YAMAS is now only a nice bar on the beach. Wherefrom is the information, the rooms are available?

For 3 weeks I stay and see the renovation from the rooms was restartet. The pool empty and dirty, all under construction.

I can't believe is complete now. But ask the greek owner before. Is a number in the website.

Anytime concarne. I'm in the uk at the moment and I'm usually in kenya in July and December.

Try the new strip clubs which are all the rave at the moment. Unlike the strip clubs in europe/US, you get more 'personal attention' from the girls. My recommendation is Liddos. Any cabbie worth his salt should know where it is.

As for the malaria tabs, I'd suggest you consult a kenyan pharmacist and not one in europe. Doctors in the west have limited knowledge about tropical diseases unlike those in africa who have to study it for years. Nairobi is high altitude and has a temperate climate so malaria is extremely rare. In mombasa, you simply have to buy the pills beforehand and then when you notice signs (joint pains, headache, temperature) pop the pills and complete the dosage.

Many practitioners have found this to be more effective than the technique that was used beforehand where people would take the medicine in advance.

I am coming to stay in Mombasa area for about a year and need to know what is the best place to purchase malaria tablets and what are the best to use.

I took Alaxin in Ghana and it cured my Malaria next day. Its amazing but not approved in the US. Prabably because there is virtually no Malaria in USA.

Forgive my ignorance but...where is Ngara at?

I am coming to Kenya in a few months and I am the type to try and visit as many different venues as possible. I particularly like checking out the less known sites/venues.

Your help woud be greatly appreciated!

Ngara is slightly outside the CBD. Just a couple of minutes drive away. It was more 'upmarket' in the 70s but its now basically an expanse of carpentry workshops, garages, kiosks, cheap lodges, hostels and loads of bars. Just ask any cab driver to take you to park road (after around 9-10pm), enter a bar, have a tusker and then walk outside and chat to any girl you see standing doing nothing. Or if you don't want to, tell the cabbie to park the car by a kerb and wave at any girl you see standing. The cabbie won't mind as long as you tell him you'll pay him for the extra trouble. Tell him to take you to a hotel with your damsel and the rest is up to you. And of course do show your appreciate to the good ol' cabbie

It isn't exactly south-central L. A as ivoryebonylover puts it. I've been there quite a number of times and nothing happened to me yet I'm prime fodder. Skinny, bespectacled and designer clad. B'live it or not, the nairobi of 2008 isn't the nairobi of 1998. There's CCTV in alot of places, plenty of cop patrols, street lighting etc plus alot of businesses are open till late. Others 24 hours. Everyone I talked to told me they feel much safer walking at night and lots of people now walk from club to club even at 3am.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I was in kenya for a looong period but I'm back to the land of the frozen sun. As to your first query, I believe that it will be a bit hard to find lodges with girls in them. However, depending on where you are you can always solicit some queens of the night. My suggestion? Try Park Road in ngara. Lodges here go for between KSHS 400. 1000. And on park road, after 9 pm, basically every girl there is a hooker. However, you won't notice it as they are 'normally' dressed and they don't catcall or wave at cars as our k-street sisters do. Simply walk to any girl and ask her if she feels cold and tell her you want to buy her a cup of tea. And your in the game.

Most of these girls I could tell were from upcountry by their accent and they are far cheaper than the CBD ones. But still clean, friendly, honest and quite a few are lookers. ST goes for 300 and overnight 700 (1000 & 2000 for our melanin challenged cousins)

Btw, where can you hook up with a bajuni/swahili. Whenever I'm in Costa Rica, I only find giriam/taita/digo women in clubs. Not saying I'm disinterested its just that I'd be interested in sampling a different cuisine.

Here in Mombasa, the bajuni's/swahilis i have met were 'road girls', i.e they stood by the roadside at night in their black bui bui's, waiting for clients with cars. I would drive around areas like the makinon road/mwembe tayari and old town mombasa to get them. I got four in this way.

However this was a while ago and I cannot promise they will still be there. They normally come from muslim communities and I recall some time back one of my favourites got roughed up by some muslim fanatics. This was at a time when young muslim men were terrorising prostitutes, in mombasa town, that wore bui bui's claiming it was an insult to their religion.

I suggest get a taxi and drive around mombasa town at night (from 10pm onwards). If you are lucky you will find them, perhaps the taxi driver will also be in the know.

Ngara is approx 5 mins (15 by foot) due east of the central biz district (CBD) and is downmarket, whereas similar near-to-town places like Hurlingham (west) and Westlands (north-west) are rather upmarket. You can easily reach Ngara by cab or even on a matatu number 6 from anywhere along the north end of Tom Mboya Street. Just 20 bob. However its not the sort of place to be walking around after dark, and you would do far better chatting up girls who work in shops (those who are alone are easiest), beauty salons and cyber-cafes. Or online. Though they tend to be unreliable with appointments. Best to meet a gal as she leaves work and take her for a drink. Nairobi girls will only keep appointments if they are already half in love with you. Unless they are pros. And give them time. One I met 2 months ago and was hard to get a date with, is now warming very much to me, (absense makes the heart grow fonder) and wants to see me when am back in Nairobi from Europe. Not just one. Numerous. Give them several months to warm to you. Then they will be a red-hot GFE for you, much much much better than ANY pro! I am in Europe all this month and to be honest, compared to here, Nairobi girls are 1000% easier to get a date with. And I am no spring chicken either! But dress smartly, groom yourself well, and speak politely, and I guarantee that age is no barrier in Kenya!

BTW do you know of any lodges that have girls? . I recall back in the 1990's I stayed at a lodge in luthuri or koinange street (I think it was called green corner or something). There was a bui bui woman (AKA Madame) operating in a room or massage palour/brothel there and who had around six nice young girls for entertaining guests in the know. You went to her, she showed you the girls, you made a choice, settled on the amaount to pay and went back to your room. The girl came knocking on your door afterwards.

I got a nice girl for around 1500/= for the whole night. Very convenient as I did not have to trek all the way to florida or some other joint to get a girl for the night and risk getting stopped by corrupt police if I walked back with her, or incur taxi and other night club costs.

Unfortunately this penalises those who offer genuine beauty (manicure and pedicure) and massage (swedish etc) services, now they too will go out of biz because they rely on advertising in daily papers. It seems odd that this has happened so soon after this point was mentioned in this site... could it be that the authorities are monitoring what is written here? Big Brother is watching YOU!

Unfortunately this penalises those who offer genuine beauty (manicure and pedicure) and massage (swedish etc) services, now they too will go out of biz because they rely on advertising in daily papers. It seems odd that this has happened so soon after this point was mentioned in this site... could it be that the authorities are monitoring what is written here? Big Brother is watching YOU!

I wouldn't worry about that too much. They have done it before.
