Overpaid on the taxi as already mentioned but you will learn. A good thing can be to let your lady do the negotiation of taxipice as she knows much better what is a fair price.

I forgot to mention that a friend of mine = a car-mechanic for BMW who lived for 3 years in mombasa and was working there - got AIDS there. I hope you have not forgotten your rain-coat.

It sounds to me like you had a great trip and you did most of the right things. Good for you!

The only suggestion I would make is that you paid too much for taxis and the girls rent. No “local” apartment in Matwapa costs 20,000 KSH for 2 months. The average price there for example in the area across the street from Casuarina Bar Matwapa is 1,500 for a studio apartment per month to 3,000 KSH per month for a multiple room local style apartment. I have many girl friends aand friends living in that area. Your girl friend must think you are the greatest man in the world to give her 20,000 KSH as this rarely happens. You must have a good heart.

The other thing is the price of taxis and guides with car, you can get a taxi from Matwapa to the airport for between 1,000 and 1,500 KHS so you did well there but the guide for 6,500 KSH must be a very happy man as he would not earn so much in one full month of work. Depending on the distance you travel, (cost of petrol etc) the right price for a car and private guide is 1,500 to 2,000 KSH for all day and the same again for all night as the drivers do NOT count their time as we do in the west but they count the distance they need to travel.

These are my only suggestions for your December trip otherwise you did very very well and as the girls say in Mombasa, “I will go hunting for a man tonight and I will catch one.” LOL

Just one question, as I know many of the girls in that area, can you post or PM me the names of your girls and I should be able to get you some back ground on them.
