So, I have been in Kenya for the last couple of weeks and after reading all these reports decided to go mongering. First mistake was to get the local newspaper and look in the Beauty section. There are a lot of parlours around, and I started calling them. It was very difficult to talk to them as they only half understood English - you'd suspect that they would know how to.

Secondly, they were very reluctant to give out the actual prices for the massage, saying it will cost abt 1500/= and the rest you decide with the lady herself. I said fine, and went to one behind yaya centre. I used to live here before and have a car, so I drove there otherwise a taxi would be very expensive. The girls inside were pretty mingin and I said what the heck!! They were charging me 4000/= to shag a dog. Well why not, might be nice - but very very disappouinted. Only one pop and was out of there.

Went to another place behing Liza apartments on Rhapta Road and again was charged 4000/=. The girl was ok, but service was v.v.v. disappointing and after rereading the reports, I think the best places to go are Simmers/680 hotel although haven't been there myself. Good afternoon guys. For the second time I'll go on business trip to Malindi, with a stop by Mombasa.

First time was really great. Low season (April) and plenty of girls for almost no tourists! I got some nice experiences with a couple of girls and one in particular I stayed 3 days with (19yo, quite slank and very young looking).

Does anyonw of you know some "girlfriend-friendly" hotels in Mombasa and Malindi which are still of a correct standing (somewhere in-between Hilton and the 500KSH room) ?

Just a general comment and not directed to anyone in particular:

Personally I think in Kenya (as probably most countries) if you stick to the low end of the market in terms of transport, girls and accomodation then you're probably not going to have a lot of fun unless you're very experienced and know what you're doing. Liken it to eating the food in one of the dodgy roadside shacks in any African country- granted you may get lucky and have a great culinary experience but chances are you'll just get food poisoning from a strain of bug to which the locals are immune to but you're not.

By no means should one overpay the girls (just ruins it for everyone else) but then again I like to think of the couple of extra *hundred* shillings (which I'd probably blow on something irrelevant anyway) as a kind of insurance.

It doesn't always work, but it does keep nasty experiences to a minimum.

- regarding inexpensive hotels in downtown Nairobi, as I wrote in a mid-July post: "walked a few blocks over to Tom Mboya Avenue, close to the Archives building, and not far from the Hilton, and took a room for 500 shillings at the Hotel Bilmass, which seems to be in the same building as the old Hallion's 2000 bar that was one of my hangouts in the 1980s.

"The room was actually clean and ok, one big bed with a mosquito net, and bathroom down the hall."

While the Hotel Bilmass is walking distance from both Simmer's and New Florida, I'd recommend spending a couple of hundred shillings and taking a taxi cab, for safety reasons

-The number and quality are better in "non free areas" (entry at Tembo is 100/girls, 200/men), but once in your room , they become tougher, always trying to reduce service or increase price, which reminds the time I had to content myself with western pros...(and it had the same effect on me...). Only Dominicans were still worse in my limited experience.

-I admit 1000KS (15$) for ST, is not a lot at western scale, but its more for 1/2 hour work than many people earn here in a week,

-I know I will be stigmatized being a "cheap Charlie", I am proud of it because...
- each time they could exploit me in that week, they did it without mercy; never spent so much in one week for everything!
- I'm always outrageous hearing girls quoting stupid amounts having been paid by some of us to inflate prices:
These are the worse ennemies of "fun" tourism.

Firstly apologies for the crosspost! Part of this report is sort of African related. Ok, not really but anyway.

So, taking the advice of Piper and the other Sages I decided not to postpone my business trip to Dubai until after Ramadhan. After all, according to the reports I would find a good selection of reasonably "hungry" girls, slightly less noisy clubs (although that doesn't really bother me I don't really go to these places for deep discussions with WGs) and a nice men-women ratio. And I did. So what happened?

Well, I had meetings on Saturday and Sunday morning in Dubai, so my over efficient secretary (probably in collusion with the wife) books me on the Emirates friday night-flight from Dar. Depart midnight, arrive 0600 Saturday. Joy. No sleep on the plane, no sleep at the hotel, in fact no sleep of any kind before work. Oh and absolutely no first-night frantic mongering. More Joy. Don't worry they say, you'll sleep on the plane, really. Here, we'll book you on First Class (only marginally more expensive than business by the way). Hmm.

I spend the entire flight being hassled by the flight attendants (all male) watching the in-flight display (no movies worth watching) fantasizing about all the possible threesomes and foursomes with voluptuous blonde CIS and Chinese girls.. Thankfully we land on time and I fast-track through customs and immigration.

Now, time to get a hotel so I head for the "Hotel Reservations" desk at the arrivals. Ok so they have a special offer, Sir, at the Regal Plaza Hotel only 140Dhs per night bed and breakfast. Now where have I heard that name before? Hey yeah isn't it the one with the Rockafella joint next to York and Imperial? Sounds good! Big mistake. If I had asked (I'm sure it's in the forum somewhere) I would have known that Regal Plaza is totally girl-unfriendly, at least during Ramadhan.

So, in blissful ignorance I head to the hotel and at first sight it looks, smells and feels like the usual midrange Dubai hotel. After a quick shower and shave I head out to my meeting in a taxi. Or so I thought. During rush hour in the mornings it's impossible to get a taxi. It's becoming chronic in Dubai. Traffic jams and congestion. Took me nearly half an hour to get a cab and another hour to reach Jebel Ali.

Anyhow meetings ran into early evening finishing with a boring dinner. I was itching to get back to the hotel to check out this Rockafella place I've heard so much about. I checked into the place at around 11pm after paying the obligatory 50Dhs and true to word, the place was quite full of CIS. Mostly good looking but some real hot ones. Total absence of Chinese girls (or any other race for that matter). Not many men in there - they do start trickling in slowly, though. Before long I spotted 3 girls sitting on one of the tables near the entrance looking very bored. They were all incredibly beautiful with damn near perfect bodies. So, I go over and introduce myself and it turns out trio is from Ukraine. "Lina, Natalia and Salima (eh?)". So I offer to buy them drinks and I engage in a little chitchat with the prettiest one (duh!). In line with the nomenclature around here I shall call them Miss N, S and L.

After 5 minutes the phone rings and she (L) disappears without explanation. So then I continue with the other two (N and S, blonde and brunette respectively) and here's where I started to see the difference between the bar girls in Africa and the ones in Dubai (and I'm sure other places too). Now I'm not sure if they thought I wasn't much of a business prospect or what but after another 5 minutes they tell me "sorry must look business", get up and walk off. um ok. After about half an hour they're back and slump on their chairs so half jokingly I tell them if they don't find anything by 1:00am I'll take them. 500dhs. short time. comes the immediate answer. Sounds like a lot but by now i'm horny, a little drunk and getting impatient. Brunette senses this and asks if I want to leave now. "Ok so which hotel you stay? Oh here? Oh no very bad. Change hotel. Not allowed girl in room." What?! so I run down to the reception to check with the guys (who until now had been very friendly) and they flatly refused. How about if I upgrade to a double room? No dice. So I went back to my brunette upstairs who by now looked even more disappointed than me. What about her place I ask? Negative. Caretaker will call the cops. No way to bribe. Obviously realizing there was no business to be had here she once again wandered off, but not before I got her number. As she walked away I couldn' t help but stare in dispair at that beautiful ass and swinging hips. After two seconds of mourning I wandered over and met a little miss Kazakstan who although wasn't as nice as the other three still had all the right specifications. Once again, though: Where you staying? Oh, here hotel? Oh, Sorry. Next customer please. None of the girls I spoke to seemed to have their own places which we could use.

By now I'm more annoyed than anything else so before calling it a night I leave the hotel and wander over to York. Once again I'm interrogated at the gate. Are you muslim (no). Lets see your ID (eh? don't believe me?). Once I was inside York, though I instantly felt much more comfortable. Sort of the atmosphere I'm used to. Crowded and noisy even during Ramadhan with no music and "limited" customers. Can only imagine what it's like the rest of the year.

Lots of CIS (although nowhere as good looking as the ones at Rockafellas), chinese and "Africans". The majority of the African girls are Ethiopian (who are about as African as Brits are European) with a smattering of Kenyans and Tanzanians. Nevertheless I settled down next to the bar to enjoy the view, wondering who the famous Dubai forums' Miss J's, M's, P's, L's and Q's were. By now I was getting tired so I decided to go on a phone number collecting mission instead. This was surprisingly easy and hopefully now I'll have a full chinese/russian/Ethiop menu to choose from when I return. Prices varied from about 250 LT from some of the Ethiops to 500ST for the better looking CIS.

So, a very short trip (engineered to be shorter by evil office staff) which could have been really fun but ruined by the wrong choice of hotel. Next trip I'm going to do a little more research before I book anything.

Mombasa positively rocks over christmas! I don't think anything closes down and the sheer number of holiday visitors (both local and foreign) makes even dead places like Pirates really lively. Just about every beach bar/club/restaurant has some kind of party on. Normally this time of year I end up with a non-pro -sometimes even the occasional horny european tourist girl- as they are just as common in the clubs as the pros (sometimes more so).

If you get a chance try and stay for the New Years' parties. They're even better.

Unfortunately this year I'll probably not get the chance to go there but there's always Easter next year.

I was in Nairobi first evenig after safari, stayed at Terminal hotel near Forida madhouse, price 1600KS/day for worn out but clean room. Was disuaded from walking at night (300KS lost for 1minute taxi).

Just back from a quick weekend trip to Nairobi. Flew in from Dar on the "19:30" Kenya Airways on Saturday night.
