Have just booked a ticket for Nairobi leaving on Sept 10 for 3 weeks. Plan to go to Malindi or Diani, as well as a few days in Nairobi and Mombasa. Anyone travelling at the same time fancy meeting up. Apart from having a drinking buddy, shared taxi fares etc can be useful.
Cheers

I've just returned from Nairobi and Mombasa. I found prices ranged from 500ksh to 1,500ksh. Was more likely to encounter 500ksh in Nairobi (beer halls). Average was 1,000ksh for a few hours. I paid 1,500ksh for 2 girls at Bamburi Beach.
Mtwapa was generally cheaper than other places in Mombasa, and personally I liked the place because the girls weren't pushy, most were attractive, prices were good as was the food.

Posts: 61I fully agree Pedro however I let it remain unsaid whether I think 2000 justifies it, but then imagine working in a factory for 7000 kshs a month...that is slavery.
Ive tried with some of these girls to get them into some "normal jobs", paid them computer courses, set them up with jobs, but they always seem uninterested and goes back to the disco.
Only way if you want them to stop( lets say you have found the one you want!!) I think is make them pregnant and marry them( which of course will almost certainly create lots of new problems..), dont ever beleive one if she says she will wait for you and "if you send some money I dont have to go out "etc, that is a load of rubbish.
If you still send them some money, whether in Thailand or Kenya is of course a different story, I do that sometimes just to help girls I like.

While I am a strong advocate of not overpaying these girls, at the same time, underpaying brings its own risks. Better to pay 1,000 and have the girl feel comfortable with you - for that amount, she'll be able to get home and eat for the next 24 hours, even if she doesn't have any other customers after you.

If you're a white/japanese/arab foreigner then you'll likely get quoted higher prices first after a while they'll come down to the usual rates. Or free. If they think you'll marry them and whisk them away to paradise and riches in Europe (ha!).
Sex here is free compared to the West- what the unfortunate folks back in Europe and the US pay for an hour we can get a different girl every night for two weeks!

In you honourable opinions, what should a first time traveller to Nairobi use as an average bench make price.
Thanks in advance. ;)

Sometimes the girl will ask you to come back to her place- bad idea unless you've been with her a few times and know her well enough to trust her.
As mentioned before keep most of your cash and passport, laptop, whatever locked up in a safe (not the room- that's not safe!). When I go out I usually keep about 2,000-3,000 shillings in my wallet (which sits in the front pocket of my jeans not the back- makes it harder to steal) and an ID card that doesn't matter. All credit cards, Rolexes, expensive mobile phones, mont-blanc pens etc etc stay home.. There's been cases of tourists being forced to withdraw cash at ATMs by unscrupulous women and their pimps so better not risk it.
Oh yes and don't forget the condom- buy them from Nakumatt or just pick them up from the street vendors outside the clubs. You'll be surprised how many hookers don't carry any around with them.
The choice of beautiful, cheap women is unbelievable in Nairobi but all you need is one bad experience to ruin everything. Sticking to the basics goes a long way in ensuring something stupid doesn't happen.
Have fun!

Posts: 147Some Thoughts, plus Frida's Number
Some comments about Nairobi that I forgot to mention in my recent trip report:
The crime level has continued to increase each time that I return to Nairobi. There were lots of people floating around the downtown streets of Nairobi, including an increased number of desperate, hungry hookers and several suspicious-looking guys. In retrospect, I took a major risk by walking with Frida and Carol for the 4/5 blocks from Simmers to the Hotel Bilmass on Tom Mboya Avenue, and I'm lucky that no one hassled us or even walked close to use. If I had to do it over again, I would have sprung for a cab ride. Remember, in comparison to the US, a short cab ride here is dirt-cheap, and well worth it.
I mentioned that I only had around 2,500 K. shillings in my wallet when I met Frida & Carol. That was true, because whenever I am in Nairobi (or almost anywhere on the road these days), I lock up my passport, air ticket, most of my cash and all of my credit cards in the hotel room safe (both the Nairobi Hilton and the Grand Regency have safes in each room, heck even the 680 had room safes the last time I stayed there). Then I walk around town with only a small amount of cash, plus my US driver's license as an ID. That way, if I get robbed, I will only lose the small amount of cash on me, and if my entire wallet gets stolen, I lose an ID which is not that important when I'm travelling (compared to a passport) and which can easily be replaced when I return home. Even if I'm totally cleaned out, I can always take a cab back to the hotel and go upstairs to the room safe to get cash to pay the cab driver.
This technique also makes it easier to negotiate with a girl - I'm not a very good liar, so it's easier to be able to show my wallet and say "look, this is all I have." And most girls in a third-world country who start out by demanding $100 will usually drop their price down to what I'm offering and have in my wallet, especially if the alternative is no cash at all. That's why I was so surprised that the girl at the Grand Regency refused to budge from her initial $100 request, since what I was offering her (1,500 K. shs. for a short stay) was more than the going rate, and it was already after 1 a.m., meaning that the chances of finding another customer was very slim. My only guess here is that she may have already made a lot of money that night, but even then it's hard to believe that she didn't want 1,500 more.
Another idea - I usually carry an old cancelled passport in my baggage somewhere. That way, in the slim chance that I do have my passport stolen, I have the older passport to prove that I'm a US citizen and which will make it easier for the nearest US embassy to issue me a new passport.
********************
Finally, Frida's phone number. I'm not surprised that my report generated several PMs requesting her cell phone number. But in all 3 cases, the requests came from guys who had minimal posts (the most was 3 posts), in fact one PMer had made zero posts. Sorry guys, but that won't work. If you want this sort of info, you have to make some contributions of your own to WSG first. In any case, if you really want to meet Frida and Carol, just go to Simmers yourself and ask around - I'm sure that you can find them fairly quickly.

Posts: 147Nairobi Trip Report:
Made it back to Nairobi for the first time in over 7 years. This was one of my regular hangouts back in the 1980s and I always enjoy stopping by here. Here's my 3-night report - in summary, nothing much happened until the 3rd night.
First night, I arrived at the Grand Regency after midnight (Hilton was full). Place was deserted except for one very attractive young lady at the all-night cafe, who appeared to be 25 years old, with great tits. Chit-chatted with her as I ate a sandwich and enjoyed her company. She informed me that the charge at the Grand Regency to bring a girl up to the room was $64 (even more than what the Hilton charges), but not to worry, that she knew a way to get to my room on her own, without my being charged. She then offered to come see me in my room, for just an hour, not all night. I inquired as to how much money she was expecting and she replied $100. I said that she must be joking, that my understanding was that the fee for short-time was 1,000 Kenyan shillings (just over $13), that I'd be willing to pay 1,500 K. shillings ($20) but no more. She stuck to her guns on the $100 (surprising since it was after 1 a.m. at this point), so I smiled, said thanks have a good evening, then went up to my room alone (without giving her my room number).
Second night, I arrived at the Hilton, again around midnight. The "Jockey Club" bar on the ground floor was closing up by the time I got there, plus the place was almost empty, except for a very pushy so-so looking Somali girl who I had no interest in. So I walked outside, over to "Simmers" located just in front of the 680 Hotel on Kenyatta Avenue. I prefer this type of place to the Florida clubs, as Simmers is more low-key. Hooked up with a nice looking tall, slender girl named Juliette and bought her a Guinness. After some flirting she convinced me to go sit at a table in the back, ordered another Guinness, then proceeded to give me a lap dance that was equal to if not superior to any lap dance I've received in the U.S. The only problem was that she was obviously very drunk at this point and looked as if she was going to pass out (turns out that she had already had a couple of large Guinness's before I had met her). I didn't feel like dealing with a situation like that at the Hilton (or anywhere else), so I half-carried her back to her girlfriends, told them to take care of her, and walked back to the Hilton alone.
Third night, finally some success. Had dinner on the upstairs level at the Trattoria italian restaurant. Around 9:30 p.m., I walked outside and across the street were two young ladies, all bundled up in sweaters and jackets, talking to a security guard. The security guard waved me over and introduced me to both girls, but it was hard to tell much about them in the dark, so I kept walking over to Simmers. Walked in and immediately saw Juliette, who apologized for the previous night and said that yes she had been quite drunk and didn't blame me for giving up on her.
Went over to buy a beer at the bar and saw the two young girls (from across the Trattoria) walk in. Since the lighting was much better at Simmers, I was able to see the two girls clearly and saw that both were attractive and appeared to be around 20. I re-introduced myself to them and offered to buy them drinks, then we sat down at a table away from the action.
One girl was about 5' 5" and 140 lbs, medium dark, named Frida, decent looking with excellent English. She claimed to be 22 which I think is correct. The other girl was tiny and skinny, very beautiful, dark-skinned, hair in braids, said she was 20 but may have been 19, named Carol, who spoke very little English. I was more interested in Carol and ended up having her agree to go to a nearby short-stay hotel for an hour or so (500 K. sh. for the room), however Carol's condition was that Frida come along since she spoke better English. I mentioned that I had exactly 2,500 Kenyan shillings on me (true!), so after paying for the room I would have only 2,000 shillings, or only 1,000 for each of them, and they both said "fine."
The three of us walked a few blocks over to Tom Mboya Avenue, close to the Archives building, and took a room for 500 sh. at the Hotel Bilmass, which seems to be in the same building as the old Hallion's 2000 bar that was one of my hangouts in the 1980s. The room was actually clean and ok, one big bed with a mosquito net, and bathroom down the hall. Both girls separately went down the hall to the bathroom to freshen up, then we all stripped down and got into bed together.
Turned out to be a fun 2-girl session, with lots of kissing, tickling, uncovered oral from both of them separately, with Frida's mouth on my dick and Carol tea-bagging me. Then penetration separately from both (using a condom). Ended up lying on my back having Frida give me hot full-tongue kissing while Carol rode on top of me. Frida was clearly the more experienced of the two, especially her kissing and BJ skills, while Carol was shy and VERY tight, which led me to believe that she doesn't do this very often, although her BJ and tea-bagging was good. NOTE: there was NO lesbian-type interaction between the two girls at all.
Ended up getting dressed around 11:15 p.m. to go back to the Hilton. The girls asked if they could keep the room, which was fine with me as no paperwork had been filled in at the front desk, just the room key in return for the 500 shs. As I left, both girls were still naked, lying under the covers giggling and smiling.
Too bad I had to leave town the next day, I would have enjoyed hooking up with these two again.
By the way, Frida gave me her phone number. PM me if you're legit and interested in meeting either her or Carol.

Wonderful for a weeks stay. the night club at NB hotel is full of mombasa society (WED, FRI, SAT right now in low season) with nice ladies just out for the night. they are all open to be chatted up, more so if you speak a bit of Kiswahili. They all are romantic girls, who look for a nominal boy friend (without illusions) and if you are good, after a first night (hotel is not a prison service) you meet any time during the day for more fun during afternoon breaks. No hassle whatsoever. Not hard core action like Tembo. Casino open every night with nice bystanders. Harry's Bar has regular girls (a bit upmarket) but VERY nice to go out with to town if you enjoy company more than just sex. You must want more than just a lay. Otherwise plenty of alternatives in touristic nite spots. If in need for a quick room any time during the day or nite, try Gloria Hotel and Villas at Nyali. Taxis know it well.
