    mate,

we are patient.....we are patient, but for fucksakes hurry up, since there is nobody traveling to kenya anymore, please submit. we have many bills to pay - month end - we need a bit of good news to cheer us up. + i`ve had to postpone my ghana trip to early next year, eased the pain by bringing a honey to me for christmas.

jeez ..... away for 10 days & so many reports here to catch up on!

naiorobi for me was fine .. good fun & great to be back there ....
didn't have the time to really check out the forum whilst i was there.

speed - you were dead right about 680 hotel ..... it's like staying in a bus station ! i did book a double room - so the security guy / girl behind the desk by the elevators (on each floor) - did not give me too much of a hard time ...
but service is poor, food is despicable (unless you like goat meat and coffee that could be diesel).
so i moved on after one night.
only good thing aboutthe 680 is 24/7 "full service" massage service ... room 215 (no sign on the door - just knock) - and also they have 24/7 internet cafe if needed!

reports and a pic or 2 to follow !

Very few laundromats of the coin operated type you'd be used to in USA or Europe. Labour is very cheap in Kenya so most laundromats are retail shopfronts that will do the laundry for you. Because it's so cheap, I'd recommend you have the hotel do it, or make an informal arrangement with one of the staff.

Jambo is rarely used among the locals. It is rather quaint and old-fashioned word probably only used to adress visitors...much like "hakuna matata" whose usage is closely linked to Safari's.

Most locals use terms like " Sasa", "Vipi" and "Niaje" which can be loosely translated to Hi.

The swahili language is quite dynamic and among the urban youth, it is closely being replaced by Sheng, which mixes swahili and bastadardized english words.

Kenyans do say 'jambo' all the time to greet people, at least that's what I noticed in my 2 trips to the Kenyan coast.

    Thailand is best choice!

Thirty-five countries and counting under my belt. Singapore is extremely safe in my opinion, but you have a fat wallet to really enjoy it. It is also too cosmopolitan in some respects. When you travel, don't you want to be in a place that's different!

The last time I was in Pattaya, I saw a gent in a wheelchair getting pulled down the road by his GF! Gotta love the 3rd world!

I was wondering whether I could get an advice as to what destination to choose. My criteria are as follows: since I live on a fix income I am looking for a reasonably cheap place, since I am disabled I am looking for a place which might be friendly towards people with disabilities, for a place with relatively low crime and cheap accommodation. I am looking for a place with low std rate and cheap service providers, I am willing to branch to other cities or countries from the destinations mentioned above so I am looking for a place which can be interested in a traveler as well. Thank you very much for your help.
My favorite places for Asian: Thailand, Philippines, For African: Ghana, For Latin: Dominican Republic (Colombia but its too dangerous for a novice), For Anglo: Estonia. If you seek advice, I recommend Thailand. It has infrastructure, its cost effective and it is safe. Go to Pattaya. All these places are fun but, these are some of the drawbacks: Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, and Singapore are expensive; Philippines doesn't have the best infrastructure (But I sure am addicted to Filipina). Brazil sometimes is cost effective but, can be expensive for tourists and I don't feel very secure there. Colombia is too dangerous. Cuba can be inconvenient for Americans, DR takes more than one trip to overcome some of the logistics. I just never seem to meet anyone in Mexico. I prefer Ghana when in Africa, its safe cheap but has poor infrastructure which goes for all African destinations. Kenya is more dangerous and slightly more expensive. Nigeria is the biggest hastle, hands down, of any country anywhere. If you don't mind cold and dark winter; once you make friends in Eastern Europe, you can have a great time but, I think you will need to set up for multiple visits. Also, you won't get as much attention for being a different and unusual race. Some people like the attention; some don't.

Financial Sum Up of the Trip

Something was for free, something not:

I paid few to zero for sex with girls besides my girlfriend (KSH 800 was the maximum).

I paid accommodation cost of KSH 5’500 for external stays.

    I paid two month rent for my girl’s apartment 2 * KSH 7’000 = 14’000.

I paid one pair of high-heel shoes for my girl for KSH 3’000 (which other guys will enjoy..).

I gave her an actual but used mobile phone of the value of KSH 20’000.

I paid food and drinks for more than KSH 10’000 (at our apartment).

I paid a lot of food and drinks for more than KSH 20’000 (external).

I paid about KSH 16’000 for taxi services (including South Coast trip).

And I paid $700 for the Charter flight from Central Europe to Mombasa (not including $50 for the Visa).

All in all the cost are about $ 2’500 I used for a two week trip to Mombasa.

Let me also mention that some or most of the girls that stay in Mtwapa pay about KSH 2’000 – to 4’000 for their room, as Blastoff said.

My girl pays KSH 7’000 per month and some of her friends even up to KSH 10’000. What I found out is that the difference of the rent shows the difference of the way they live and the area in Mtwapa they stay. For me I’m more happy to pay from time to time KSH 7’000 for a clean (that moment unfortunately loud) and safe area and having a girlfriend that can climb up the ladder by herself.

Probably I had better luck than Blastoff as I was absolutely no time confronted with dangerous situations in Mtwapa (Posta) at the place I lived - not even when I went out in the night by myself (Causarina, Kenda’s).

I crossed the channel (Likoni) 4 times and also left the car during the transit. I was never in trouble nor in a weird situation. But that doesn't mean that nothings can happen.

    Regards

Second Week: Final Days in Mtwapa

Again I was awake after a short sleep and the first thing in my mind was my girlfriend in Mtwapa. Consequently she got SMS from me and she replied them also quickly. That went on till afternoon until we were sure that it’s the right time to meet each other again. Paul brought me back and before that we visited his flat which is a few Kilometers behind Bamburi Cement Factory. A calm place in the green, but not Mzungu Standard. Paul showed me pics from his trip to Europe two years ago (he fucked himself through Hamburg's Reeperbahn) and he gave me ear protection for the rest of my stay in Mtwapa – that was a great idea! I used some ear plugs right before but they were not enough to stop that unbelievable noise thrilling through my ears.

I was back in Mtwapa and found my girl in the sitting room of our neighbour, having a gossip session with her friends. We all were kind of embarrassed when we shacked hands and when I pressed my girlfriend close on me – it was affecting, and it is real life. From then on she and me had each other back and both had a good feeling. This combined with Paul’s ear protection enabled me to find back to normal sleep pattern.

Of course the sex was fine from then, since she knows how to make a Mzungu happy - and she did!

    kenya in dec -xmas

I am thinking of going to kenya in dec-jan. How is it in this time with high season? Is it crazy with people. problems to get rooms etc.

I have been to many places this time of year and I hate xmas, but I can only go now.

All your reports are very good material for a first timer.

I have been thinking of going to Ghana instead where I guess is less tourists.

Any ideas about this, I think I will be happy wherevere I go, just wanted to ask.
