I have (what I think!) is a clever trick to get talking to more up-market girls you find in Starbucks and the like but it also works with girls on enquiry desks in (up market) malls and sales girls.

What you do is get an Indo friend to send you an Indo style sms which even if you can speak Indo you might not understand. You simply say to them (in English) "I can speak a little bit of bahasa but I can't understand this sms - can you please help". Of course this also affords an opportunity to portray yourself as anything you want!! Victim of broken relationship, millionaire, film star - the opportunity is endless. But you need a real Indo person to get the jargon right. Of course you can ask anyone (you trust) even hotel door man or something. Her is an example "Marah ya? The reasons the local guys get them is that they a) recognise the signs b) don't give a shit about rejection if they get it wrong.

In my opinion, the main reason is b). I have found that if you don't approach a girl IMMEDIATELY upon first viewing her, you are most likely going to lose out. You must have the "don't give a shit" attitude in Jakarta if you want to get the top girls. The girls are never rude to you like they would be in the usa. And if they have a boyfriend, he will not fight you like you might get in the usa. There's nothing to lose just to walk up to them and say hello.
