Well, Indonesian in general like consistency and do not like too much changes either in Life or work.

I hv brought KTV girls from Block M to dinner at Kristal Hotel and was surprised they do not know how to use the knife and fork and they order as usual... Nasi Goreng or Fried Rice.....

Brought my lady staff in Surabaya for Lunch and insist that she get herself a steak.... She did not eat it n later order again... fried rice.

Sometimes they just order whatever without really knowing what they order just maybe as not to show that they have never been to places...

JAD - You're right of course about those "cultural gap" issues and there are many more too. I remember when I first came to Jakarta a long time ago and showed my Indonesian office colleagues a photo of a 200 year old house I had just bought in UK. After an embarrassing silence someone said - "but you have a good job don't you...why couldn't you afford a new one". Sorry - a bit "off topic" - maybe relevant lesson I suppose if anyone want's to impress a girl: don't show her a photo of an old house, no matter how expensive.

"Bohong" here is used as an expression. It is another thing when they say "pembohong". It means liar and it is a serious accussion. But, at least at some point of time, we all had cheated our girls anyway .

FYI, in Indonesia it is acceptable to ask a person you barely know about his/her age. It is also acceptable to ask the same person how much money he/she makes a month.

Marrying a relative is accetable. But, we are not as hard as the middle easterners and Pakistanies who arrange marriage among first cousins. But, Indonesians practice what we call "turun or naik ranjang". Literally means step down or step up from the bed. Upon the death of a spouse, situational, a person is advised to marry the brother or sister so kindship and wealth will not be broken.

I believe it is what we may call ... cultural gap! @#$%^&*()_+

Em...many times I hear that response! Itu aneh krna .... although of course Indonesian's are more polite than bules they (girls I'm talking about) often call people "liar" in situations when even bules would deem it too impolite. I think the word "lie" is stronger than "bohong" but I don't know if you have a "weaker" work, maybe not.

The most abused word Indonesian girls normaly used when they check/confront/interogate their boyfriend or husband is "bohong." Literally means lie. They will even say this word before you finish what you say. I am sure you and many ISG members have experienced this .

They won't believe a single word we say. But, they love to hear the three words. If they mumble "mmmboh!", I have an idea whose d*ck they blew lately .

Last sunday I was walking between kota and manga besar and I went to check out Bintang Mawar: I was surprised to see that there were about 50% less girls than the last time I was there, and somehow the quality had taken a hit as well. I am wondering whether the police raids are not responsible.

Anyways, I resisted the temptation (tough !) and walked out then turned right on manga besar. Going towards the main artery (the northern continuation of jalan sudirman, but it has another name "W. huyuk ??"), on the left hand side I went into an alley (Manga besar Raya N° 42) which had a sign for a massage called "PATRA" at the far end. I went there and they have about 60 girls working there, with the pictures of all of them on the counter.

After a long hesitation and discussion (or should I say attempt of such due to my only 3 words of bahasa) I finally let the man at the reception convince me to go up and try one of the girls, tall, dark skinned (her picture must either have faded or had been bleached...), but very friendly and with nice attitude. If you go there, she's wearing white and a necklace with a star in her picture.

I had wanted one of the younger ones (N°41, 44 I think) but they did not come recommended, supposedely because of non performance of good services. They also have 2 chinese girls, which I would have had if they had not been off . Afterwards, I thought that I should have stuck with my initial hunch, as always...damn...

The damage was quite reasonable as from 35 K Rups for the room and 150 KRups for the girl, the price went down to 150 KRups total for one hour with FS and massage (not the best I had, but still quite relaxing). Not bad for a late afternoon quickie to offload the poison as one of my friends would say.

If you are coming from the main street (walking north) where the fast bus runs, then after you have turned right on Manga besar, you want to get to the 5th alley (or the 4th ...).

For those in search of a cheap hotel where to take a girl if they can't or won't take her home, those alleys off Mangga besar have a few quite cheap ones, around 100 KRups .

If anyone is interested in home delivery, and I don't know what type of quality girls could be delivered, call the number of the porter at the Jayakarta hotel, at 6496760, ext 3, not far from Manga besar, who said he could arrange sending a girl to my place for around 400 KRups for 3 hours. Hotel special massage, eh? I remember my first time in the Intercon. After a normal one hour massage, the girl offers me the special for 500k rupes. Not knowing any better, I agreed. Never encountered that in my life. Two minutes later and I was done. haha.
I think I was asked only twice in all the times I went there for a regular massage. I turned it down the second time because I had learned what is available by night at that point.

Here's a point that I've already shared privately but decided that it's worth it to put on the board, responding to Gustav Henry's writing about not wanting to have to go out chasing after the girls every evening, but rather have them come to the hotel.

My experiences with going to the MPs such as Kartika, Berlian and Maribaya 6th Floor is that almost all of the girls working there are available to come to your hotel after they finish their shift, usually 10 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. All you have to do is call them or sms them a couple of hours ahead of time, and if they're not already busy, they'll be happy to come over to your hotel room for either short-term (1 1/2 to 2 hours) or overnight.

Remember, they'll end up with more money from a session with you in your hotel than from a session right at the MP. Plus, you'll be able to relax in a clean, comfortable environment without any strict time limit.

As I posted at that time, back in December I had hooked up with a young hottie after work at Plaza Indonesia, only to have the evening fall apart by 9 p.m. So I went back to my hotel, sent an SMS to Cynthia of Kartika, and within an hour she was knocking at my room door, with a smile on her face and some condoms in her purse.

Best of all, she was dressed fairly conservatively, so I didn't have to worry about the "walk of shame" in the morning. I agree with Joel Goodson's point, stressing that the only way to get really useful capability is to a) listen to all conversations, b) practice with "street" girls and young men - especially gays. Street and especially gay language which most street/bar girls use can not be found in guide books. Even the one I recommended which is OK for street conversation doesn't cover gay language at all. Certainly there is no harm in reading "tourist" books and it will enable you to get by, but never, ever, will girls in the street use that language for common words. Neither will they use it in sms messages.
