Done some field research lately about the kind of salaries Jakarta girls make to put things into perspective -- this may have been documented before but always useful for newbies so they don't overpay.

A typical female worker in a mall/department store (eg selling cosmetics, since quite a few of them seem to be doing some free-lancing) earns about 800,000 Rp or so monthly.

Your typical Jakarta female office worker (admin, assistant etc) is around 1,000,000 to max 2,000,000 Rp per month.

So for all newbies out there or folks travelling from Europe/US and not aware of local standards in Indo, be aware of the above and do not ruin the market for us all by paying massive amounts of $$$ for a shag here in Jakarta -let alone in the rest of Indo.

Me thinks all of our costings have been surpassed somewhere along the line.

A recent trip had me driven home in a BMW by two sisters who proceeded to play with the "gear stick" in a liberal manner and had plenty of room to enable a full set to fill the "rear boot" - this was the advice of the younger sister who intimated that the elder liked to have the front engine and the boot both filled at some point in the evening !!

Back to the events of last week. I was, I'm ashamed to admit, almost entirely with Miss O with two exceptions.
