I just got back from a month in Brazil and heard on the radio about more bombings in Denpasar. It really made me sad, both in the loss of life and injuries, and I know that so many really good Balinese people will be financially hurt from this.

everyone be careful over there. i can't figure out that muslim fanantic mentality? the world helps them after the tsunami and pours millions of dollars in aid at them and still they hate us. what would happen to that country if all non-muslims left? and took our technology? but i guess that is what they want.

A couple of weeks ago I was out with a girl I've posted photos of (you can look back and see "V") with her soon-to-be husband who sends her around 20 million rupiah a month when he is not in Jakarta. I have only just discovered the ISG recently and this is my first post spurred on by DJ Monger's tale "more indonesian hijinks".

I lived on and off in Indonesia with my Indonesian Girlfriend for a few years until 2001 when we split up due to various reasons one of them being the fact that I couldnt keep from mongering any chance I could get. My work situation allowed me to spend 3 or 4 months over there in the summer and a month at christmas, my Girlfriend had stayed for a few months in my home country also. She was from Java, we met in Bali but we stayed a lot with her family in Java over the years.

Anyway! We were living in Bali when we split and she went back to her family in Java leaving me there for a few weeks of fun before returning home. We kept in touch bit when I got home and about 6 months later I got a call from her telling me she was getting married to some western guy she met and going to live with him in ******.

After she got married, she would call or email every so often to tell me how happy she was, how rich her husband was blah blah blah she even sent me Pics of the wedding. A bit of payback for dumping her I suppose, but I would always say I was happy for her and wish her the best.

About a year later I was in Bali for my usual summer stays and I got a mail from her to say she would be back in Indonesia in a week, on her own to see her family, her husband was following her out there a few weeks later. When she arrived in Bali she made her way straight to my bungalow, which we didnt leave for a few days of serious fucking until she went to Java to see her family.

She even arrived back in Bali to meet her husband a day early and the night before he arrived I fucked her again, I saw her once again a couple of days later walking down Jl Legian in Kuta shopping with her husband in tow.

He looked happy enough and maybe what he doesnt know wont hurt him, I dont know if this is typical of Indonesian girls attitudes towards infidelity, but DJ Monger was right about the lying too, they will tell you anything you want to hear rather than face an uncomfortable truth. However that said, once you are aware of this it can be endearing in its own way, especially when they are as goddam sexy as she was. but then again I didnt marry her.

Regarding Indonesians, and their alleged tendancies towards infidelity:

I don't know, though you go on to say all your Indonesian friends find the practice perfectly normal. This, I find surprizing.

Just to give you an example that happened a couple days ago. My indonesian assistant/roadie comes to work grinning from ear to ear, and proceeds to show me some pictures on his handphone of a cute young indonesian girl. "My ex-girlfriend - she's visiting bali, her husband went out for a while, so she invites me over to her room for a quick jiggy-jig!" Ok, so a wife steps out on her man, could happen anywhere really. But the surprising/funny part - they're on their honeymoon! She couldn't even wait till their honeymoon was over to start cheating on him!

And these are just normal, college educated indonesian 20-somethings, hapless husband included - it's not a double six girl and her mongering expat boyfriend we're talking about. Granted, it's not like this could *never* happen in America (i'm remembering the wedding dinner scene in 'Kitchen Confidential" for instance) But I never *personally* had a close friend relate a story like that to me in 32 years of living in America.

Then to top it off she dragged her new (and not very happy looking) hubby off to meet my friend that night, i saw it with my own eyes - unbelievable the cheek of this girl! But then again it reminded a bit of some scenes i've found myself in personally.
