Posts: 55How busy is it in the bars this Christmas in PP?
I understand that places like Pattaya and Angles City are not as busy this Christmas.
Can anyone there report back about PP bars?

Sophie--I thought that "mandatory" drink policy was BS when she told me that. I ordered a beer anyway but I just didnt like the attitude that was given, sort of like "order something or get out". That and because I didnt come across your Selma lookalike that's why I didn't go back again for seconds.

When I travel abroad, I always use my Bangkok Bank ATM card. It worked with most ATM machines, the circuit is PLUS. Can someone living in Phnom Penh confirm me there are ATM displaying the PLUS logo ?

Phantom,
I paid 15$/gal with no room fee along with a $2 beer. Thought it was a good deal but perhaps I should have talked to you or read the forum about price change. Now that I am back in San Francisco, it sure sounds like a good deal but for the guys there, perhaps it's time to haggle a bit.
I am not sure about mandatory drinks but I did see one guy come in, pick his girl and go directly to his room sans drink at Sophie's. I enjoy having a beer with 4 or 5 ladies grabbing me who are ready to go when I am.
Anyone else enjoy the Salma Hayek lookalike the past month at Sophie's? She had the face and being 19, she had the body. I was impressed enough to see her 3 times. I was there at the beginning of the month.

Just curious if anyone else experience this,
I'm not sure if its a real rule or some BS from the gals when I was at Sophie --(I was there only once) ,they said everyone must order a drink from the bar--no exceptions.

I was there not a month ago and it was $10+2 room fee. I ordered a beer when I was there but not sure if the beer or a drink from the bar was mandatory. I think the beers here were $2.

I liked you report. Just one thing: ST at Martini's is 10. LT is 20.
The importence of keeping the prices from spiralling skywards cannot be understated.

went to pnom penh. stayed at the flamingos hotel, which is near all the bars.
sovann the driver took me around sight seeing the first day. he drove me to the thmorda restaurant which is on 128th st. corner 107, excellent cambodian, chinese, vietnamese averaged us$3.00 a dish. i tried some cambodian food, carefully separated what i could eat and took the to go food for the hotel reception staff. they just loved it. it must be very hard for them to try those meals on their salaries.
went around local bars. shanghai had 1 dozen girls, all below average. sophie is a run down 1 room bar with 8 girls looking very strange. they serve $2 beer while the girls go to work on you. sorry, pass. went to martini. it's a large, leafy courtyard with a dozen girls, food, beer and projected movies on large screen. beers and drinks are $1.50 or 6000 riel. it's a nice and relaxed place to sit around drinking and flirting with the girls. most guys there were caucasian.
girls are all young, good-looking vietnamese. the mamasan immediately showed up, calling up the girls. she said st $20, 2 pops $30, all night $40. took out tina, a small, sweet and very sexy looking viet girl. the motoman took both of us back to the hotel for 4000 riels. wow, this tina could really give me a hard on with bbbj and passionate sex.
next day went checking out vietnamese brothels on 63rd street. the big one was closed. the smaller one had the whole family with kids having their lunch on the floor of the kitchen, and showed 5 girls, claiming the rest were all out shopping. took a girl for $5. the room was small and dirty. she urged me to leave my clothes at the shelf next to the door but i declined, hearing so much about theft problems with vietnamese brothels. had so so sex. she claimed to rent the room and knew of no organized gangs or theft problem. kept my clothes with me at all time. better be smarter than the hookers and not lose anything to them.
same night went back to thmorda for dinner then martini. the moto driver got lost and went around and around exposing me hundreds times to being knocked off the bike and having my brain rep001tered on the street of pnom penh. finally found it. sovann with his trusty camry would have been much safer but he was engaged.
met the mamasan again. her name was like jean or giaang, the way the girls told me. she sat and talked for a while. bought her a coke for $1.50. she claimed all the girls are free lancers who give her a dollar or two when she introduces them to the johns. the girls denied any organized gang brought them there. they all tried to escape poverty and hunger in vietnam with promises of good jobs in pnom penh. tipped the mamasan 10k riels and took a sweetie to the hotel. she would not do bj, but the sex was ok. she said she liked it a lot. she was very nice and sweet about it. gave her 5000 riels extra for the motoman.
pnom penh has far more atractive girls than hcmc ready to go to hotels for $20. highly recommended.

Gaudente,
Just take a moto at night, but obviously study the city map and location where you are going so you can correct the moto driver if he makes a wrong turn. I will be on my fourth trip there, first trip first moto I took made a wrong turn taking me from Walkabout to Sharkys, I corrected him immediately and told him I new the city very well. He thought I was a long termer there. Don't know if it was an honest mistake or not? Never had the problem again. Bottom line make sure you know how to get where you are going and no one thinks you are a newbie. Study the city map of the spots you want to go, it's pretty easy. My experiences at night including 1 AM have been good. I've found the moto drivers to be fine.

From my time in PP, I can say that it all depends on where you are walking. If you stick to the main (large multi lane) streets and Blvds, then it's ok even at night. Its the smaller streets that connects all the main Blvds that you have to watch for as most are not lit at all. Most of the times you wont see 3 feet in front of you. So stay in the mostly tourist areas and walk the main streets will be no problem but will need several days to figure out, if staying a short time its best to take motodops at nite to avoid problems.
