You're welcome. Come to think of it, I don't think that Sasha even has a meter. He does have a new Skoda car, however.

In regard to renting a car, it's not really necessary if not altogether impractical. The major features of the city such as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, etc. are all within walking distance. It's really a rather compact area as opposed to Budapest for example.

If you want to go to a club or private, just flag down a taxi on one of the side streets. They're everywhere. Always get a quote before you get in. If you take a pass, the guy will quickly lower the price to accomodate you in most instances. Also, make certain that the guy has a cell phone if you're going to a private. Those places are often hard to pinpoint and if he has a cell he can call the place for specific directions in Czech. Also, have the address and phone number clearly written down on a piece of paper so he can read it when you get in the taxi. That way there's no need for translation and possible mix-ups.

I have the opportunity to spend a month during the spring/summer in either Prague or St. Petersburg. I am interested in hearing opinions on which city would be better for such an extended trip, particularly in regards to the subjects on this forum.

I know there is no right or wrong answer to this question, but I respect the opinions of my fellow travelers.Please factor in the special nature of a multi-week trip as opposed to a short hop. This would mean taking into consideration that the city can be used as a base of operations for weekend travel to nearby destinations.

I have been to Prague recently, have never been to St. Petersburg or anywhere in Russia.

As far as prices for a taxi ride, that's largely a function of how far Sasha has to take you. I can tell you for sure that he charges only a fraction of what guys on the meter charge. He stays with me at the club or private to see if things are OK, if there are enough girls available, etc. By the way, I tip him well and consider it money well spent. He has saved me a lot of time and money by keeping me away from rip-offs or dead scenes at night clubs. He knows his stuff and and knows what I'm looking for.

I would like to make a note for the hotels not knowing my way around prague very well i went for a concert last year spring and i stayed at the Movenpick hotel cause it was the first tall newer looking hotel i saw. I payed less then 100 euros and this was before the euro was that strong. I had a date with a girl from Milas escort had a great time told the guy when i checked in that i would be having company and wanted to make sure that there was not problem. the rooms were nice and so was the hotel i would recomend it i am sure it is not as top of the line as the marriott but for 400 dollars i had the nice room and a girl for the night!

Hi Guys,

Saint and others have asked about renting a car in Prague. I would strongly advise against it. The streets in Prague are an incomprehensible labyrinth of twisting little streets with all kinds of foreign sounding names like "Stratavinska," etc. Furthermore, there is no place to park your car if you can actually find the place. Parking in Prague is like finding a place to park in downtown Chicago.

While taxi drivers in Prague are well know for taking you for a "ride" I would like to recommend my "personal" taxi driver named Sasha. He's actually a Russian from the Ural Mountains. He's very honest and is looking for repeat business and won't rip you off as a result. Sasha speaks pretty good English and he personally looks out for his customers. When I walk into clubs he actually comes in with me and talks to the owners or the person in charge on my behalf. I get great service as a result. I know some Czech and I think that he tells them that I'm a rich American and could be a valued customer, etc. He also knows the good and bad clubs out there. He also knows the good bars, discos, etc. He's very reliable and is always early if not right on time.

His mobile number is 604 750 675. Tell him Paddy sent you and he'll watch out for you and advocate for you. Finally, the subway system is excellent although I've seldom used it. Hope this helps.

Just finishing up a couple of nights in Prague. Had a couple of great encounters and one awful. Started off by checking out Club Darling. I was very impressed with the club and the selection (35-40) and quality of the girls-outstanding. Not a lot of tourists around now with winter an the bad dollar exchange rate, but nice girls can be found. I like the clubs because you at least have an educated blind date, instead of totally blind, good and bad can still happen.
