I was back in Shanghai for a night and took a walk around my old regular hideout area (Tong Ren Lu, Xi Kang Lu). It seem like the streets walkers are back especially the strip West of Portman. As usual most of them are UFOs (Ugly Fat & Old) and are asking for too much 800 per shag and 1500 for overnight. I smile and move on. The going price should be around 300/600 considering that they are really UFOs! Especially when the night later. In my experience when I used to live in Shanghai, sometimes you do get a Gem or two but I don't see any this time.

AG is retired and traveling around the whole of China. He has pass the moderation of the forum to me. If you know him personally I will contact him for you but please pay Jackson the $20 for the subscription to avoid messing up the threads.

AG is unlikely to be able to be free to take you around as he travels in and out of Shanghai so very often. My advice is try to send me a PM and I will redirect it to him for his answer. Or you may try to contact some our regular member.

As for SEAJoe, he is Hongkong based and goes to Chang Ping for his weekly fun, I doubt he is able to help you very much for Shanghai as he is never in Shanghai.

this was a really interesting story on many levels. i'll add my 2 cents. ag called it right - do not make people lose face (pappasan's, girls, or anyone). i've had incidents myself when i accidentally caused someone to lose face (though nothing like this, thankfully).

second, if you can't bail yourself out of a situation with (rule of thumb) double the money you were initially getting yourself into (i.e. 600 rmb, in this case), do not get into the situation in the first place. you'll find having double the money in china is invaluable.

third, if you force a girl to do anything she didn't want to do, you're not only an asshole, but also a [CodeWord126]. "tom" would have gotten into a lot more trouble for his behavior in most countries. he should count himself lucky, and learn from his experience (not a bet i'd make, but he should).

finally, this is probably the best advice you'll ever get if you spend any significant length of time in china. many things are going to [CodeWord140] you off, and you will be cheated many, many times. remember, you are a visitor here, and one that isn't complying with the law at that. if you can't handle difficult situations, don't get yourself into them. but most of all, just remember that none of what we're doing when we're mongering needs to escalate or make us angry - and all of it can be reduced to a very small (relatively speaking) amount of money. so keep your cool, and pay if you have to, to get out of sticky situations. whatever you do, don't adopt the "i'm superior" attitude that so many lao wai here do - it may satisfy very small egos and intellect, but mimicing it is gonna lead to a lot of trouble.

My latest round the world trip was greatly disrupted when I received a call from a friend in which I had to cut my trip short. Here is the story:

He was calling from a Police station in Shanghai. Apparently, he had been thrown into jail for 2 days before the Police finally decided to give him a chance to call in someone who would be able to bail him out. The friend of mine, Tom (not his real name), do not speak a single word of Chinese and just moved to Shanghai 2 months ago.

When I finally arrived at the Police station, in which he had be held; he looks fine except for a small cut above his forehead and a “Black-eye”. The Police told me that they had detained him because he had picked a fight with two locals without any apparent reasons. The two locals was release on the same day (Thursday) after questioning.

The locals’ part of the story to the Police:

They were walking along Chang De Lu when this Laowai started speaking to them in English in which they had no idea what he is saying and thus they tried to walked away but was in turn confronted by the Laowai and started picking up a fight. The local defended and managed to knock him down by a punch into the Laowai’s left eye which left him bleeding. That is when the Police arrived and saw the Laowai picking up on his feet and grabbing one of the locals by his shirt. The Police immediately apprehended him.

My friend’s part of the story:

He went to Chang De Lu and found the BBS that I had brought him to, opened, so he walked in. Having been there before; he agreed for a ST. However, in the previous experience when I took Tom there, he paid 200RMB (150RMB + 50 Laowai Tax: Yah Yah…. Because the girl said that Laowai have big dicks!). This time round; the girl wanted 300 for ST by telling him with 3 fingers. Not knowing Chinese, Tom figured that, it will be hard to negotiate; he nodded in agreement and headed to the room for the ST. During the service; Tom asked the girl to give him a BBBJ and Tom nicely CIM after 5 mins of BBBJ. What he remembered was; when he shot into her mouth, she was struggling to pull away but he held on to her head, forcing her to be unable to do so. He only let her go when he was finally done. Tom saw her running out of the room returning 5 mins later screaming at him in some Chinese words in which Tom could not understand. She keeps on showing 6 fingers and pointing at her mouth. Tom thinks that she wanted 600RMB just for CIM. Tom then walked out of the room after dressing up; pulled 2 X 100RMB gave it to the papa san at the door and tried to leave. However, the girl kept screaming to the papa san in Chinese and the Papa san stopped him saying in broken English: 600! After 5 more minutes of finger pointing, Tom pulled another 100RMB and threw it at the Papasan and forced himself way out of the BBS. Tom barely walked more than 10 meters from the BBS when he was confronted by the two locals who started speaking to him in Chinese; fiercely. I guessed Tom tried to play tough (which I knew he would…..) and a fight broke up. Tom remembered the Police who grabbed him, came out of nowhere. The locals told the Police something in Chinese and all of them were taken to the Police station in which he was detained.

Tom told me during the first 2 days (Thursday and Friday) they left him alone in the Jail cell in which Tom was complaining to me that he had “Hell” in Jail because they only gave him a thin blanket when it was freaking cold in there. My only comment to Tom: “What? You call that Hell? They could have beaten you up, burn your pubic hairs and hang weights on your balls for picking up a fight!”

Tom was released after I had fixed the Police up with a 1000RMB bail. While walking out of the station, the Police Inspector told me: “Keep your Laowai under short leash, don’t let him run around like mad dogs OK?”

Telling Tom in a serious tone: “Don’t try act tough when you are in a foreign land. If you had paid the 300, it is likely they will let you go without much trouble because that was what was agreed upon in the first place. By throwing the money at the Papasan in front of the girls, you made him ‘lose face’ in which he would not hesitate to fix you up! Now instead of paying 300, you had paid 1300 for that stupid ST, BBBJ and CIM plus 3 full days of experience in Jail. Bravo! It was a lucky thing that the locals did not say anything more serious to the Police and so they did not charge you with some stupid charges!”

Damage paid was 300. She asked 500 and obviously I rejected that settling on 250, but then added 50 tip. I ALWAYS tip, it is just habit. Probably you disagree but that is my way. I think 300 was fair given it was a fs session, and although I said it was rushed it was still around 45 mins. At home I would pay twice that for the same time.

I could not see or hear any other customers. There were about 4 girls sitting on the couches by the doorway

I REALLY dislike the dingy lighting in the cubicles (you can't call it a room! ). I like to see the goodies
