FYI there is a new FREE Majic Jack app on the IPHONE. Use a noise cancel blue thooth head set for your confrence calls. I use my old IPHONE 4S that I had unlocked by AT&T. You can buy local min or go on wifi. I used this method in Rio and CRica. Everyone at the office thought I was in Miami.

I am in a simular situation as the poster above with one exception. I am with AT&T and if I come to Sosua and need to make or answer phone calls, I need my Phone Number from my AT&T phone to show as the numer called or answered so as to not let on I am outside the country with customers. Anyone use an AT&T phone while in the DR and able to use your regular phone numer coming across the caller ID?

Price: the price is competitive. I think he charges a "cleaning fee" as well. However, many places in Sosua include breakfast and Sosua Suites didn't when I stayed there, despite Rocky's being right across the street. So no breakfast increases your cost. I was offered airport pickup and drop off from POP, which a lot of hotels offer now as well, depending on how long your stay is, etc. This is something that can work for Sosua Suites if another hotel does not offer pickup and drop off. One note, make sure to allow yourself ample time getting back to the airport because the "free" ride to the airport might include picking up other guests from other places that Rick manages and those guys could be slow or running late, which could slow you up.

Cleanliness / modernization: IMO, the place is a bit ghetto. The furniture is old and my unit had a bit of a cigarette smell. The walls and structure have holes. There is a kitchen, but the unit I had just had a burnt pot in the kitchen and nothing else. The place had a cleaning lady, but I felt like she wanted me to work around her schedule at times.

Internet: Was very shaky for me and out a few days. The excuse I got was "well you know, this IS the DR." Some people might be thinking you can go across the street and use the net at Rocky's but there are times when you want wifi in your room. For instance, if you are running Pandora on your laptop or phone for music.

TV: My cable was shaky and below what I've experienced at other places. I don't watch a lot of TV but there are times when I might want to watch something on down time or with a chica while we're having some drinks.

Noise: My unit was noisy when I was there. There are families that stay on the premises so sometimes the kids get up early and you can hear noise right outside your window. I also heard a dog at times barking. If there is any type of construction on the strip, you might wake up to that at 8 am as well. Basically, depending on which unit you are in, it can be difficult to get ANY quality sleep.

Hot water: Was a luxury. I had the hot water system that works where you have to flick on a light switch and wait "15 minutes" for the water to get hot before taking a shower. My hot water lasted about 3 minutes so I wound up taking a lot of cold to luke warm showers.

Pool: the pics on the website don't really represent how ghetto the pool area is. The lounge chairs were filthy. The pool didn't look clean. It's pretty small and there is virtually no privacy.

Security: there is a night guard there most of the time and he is a pretty cool guy.

Advantages: The place is convenient for hanging on the strip. You literally can walk across the street from D'Latin or Rumba with a chica or to refill your drink.

Bottomline:

Given all the options in Sosua I would not stay at Sosua Suites again. That being said, some units may be nicer than others. The only thing Sosua Suites has going for it, IMHO, is the location, if you want to be steps away from the action, but you can get that at other places. Sosua Suites offers a bit more privacy than a place like New Garden, which has been ruined somewhat from the advertising on monger sites, if you like some discretion. As far as "Rick being a great host," the best kind of host is the one you never need after he hands you the keys. In general, do your research and don't solely rely on monger sites for things like places to stay.

Last time, I stayed in Sosua and tried pulling this off, it was an absolute disaster. I stayed at Rocky's who did have the wifi, but found myself having to sit outside in order to get good reception and there was constantly loud noise on the streets during the day (I remember some van or something with either some guy yelling something or loud music, I forget which) and this caused issues whenever I had to talk to someone on the phone via magicjack (which required a wifi connection to work). At one point, I was then forced to go to the Internet cafe, which worked better, but there were women talking loudly to their western union boyfriends and other chicks and dudes talking in Spanish loudly, so again if someone were to hear this via my phone in the background, they would think "doesn't sound like this guy is in the US". Bottom line: I strongly need everything conducted in my own nice quiet room.

I've read some past reports whereas it has been reported that the wifi was spotty and in some cases non-existent and I actually considered Terra Linda, until I read a couple of bad reports on wifi.

Can you help me guys or is DR just not the place for me, based on my requirement? I stayed at Blackbeards' in Puerto Plata in the past as well. Again, wifi shitty in the room and had to go outside. I stayed in a hotel in Santo Domingo and the wifi would shut off constantly. Starting to wonder if it's a Dominican Republic thing. Anyone tried pulling off what I'm trying to do with success?

Appreciate any assistance. I sent some hotels (like El Rancho and Casa Cayena) some questions, but they'll probably tell me anything to get my business, so asking you instead.

3 guys at$75 a piece and it is 1st class, private villa in a nice area on a 1/2 acre with private pool, all gated and secure with wifi, it's nice. No more flea bag hotels for us.

Yes, this place is a hidden gem in Sosua. Like the fact it's just around the corner from Baily's and on its own dead end street that is MUCH quieter at night. That little used public beach at the end of their street is really nice and there are absolutely no shops or touts anywhere on it. None. Was there last May and my wing and I had the beach totally to ourselves the one time we went. We like El Rancho's breakfast and on point security at night. Make sure your pigs have cedulas or they won't get in. You have to escort them out before they give their I'd's back to them though, and that's a good thing. Others have preferred places to stay in Sosua but this is our choice for the above stated reasons. Easy walking distance to everything in town. About $50 bucks a night. Owner speaks English. Recommended for those who don't want a frat house ambiance, shoddy maint, or questionable personal security concerns on site. Please don't ruin it guys.

I have stayed at the El Rancho several times and can recommend it. The rooms are clean and the restaurant is ok but I perfer Baileys which is only a short walk. The receptionists all speak passable English and the owner is fluent in I believe she said five languages.

I have been looking at hotels in the area I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the hotel Voramar I have seen their website on there website it has a gallery of women. I was wondering if they have girls working out of the hotel the women were very attractive.

I have stayed at Hotel Voramar couple of times. There are no in house chicas at that time. Nice hotel, nice pool, nice rooms with balcony. Location is atleast 10 min walk to pedro clisante street. Totally girlfriendly.

I guess they put pics of beautifull girls just as an attraction.

Has many regular returning clients, which is a good sign. Mainly European guests. Chica friendly but no girls working on site. A little bit away from the town centre which some prefer and some don't.

Across from Casa Cayena is also a hotel called El Rancho. Room start at round about 50 dollars. They also have a pretty decent restaurant which is rent out to Andy a german guy who used to cook at the Romanoff hotel for years. Most guests at this hotel are from european countries.
