Posts: 2684Wilfried finally has a job!
I received this announcement from Wilfried a couple of days ago. This is promising to say the least!
"Hello!
After almost 2 years since I parted company with the Hotel New Garden (NG). I have spent the last one and a half year working on a number of Hotel opportunities.
With my 4 years at the New Garden, I have acquired an understanding of what is most important for your comfort and those ingredients which make the difference between an ok stay and a great one!
It has been a real quest to find a property in Sosúa that will deliver the quality of accommodations in the right location. After working through a number of different locations I have settled on this one: Hotel Casa Cayena.
I am in the process of closing the final details this month and intend to be in full service operation by December 15th. I am the majority owner and the Hotel manager. I would like to share the good news with you.
The location of the Hotel is on Dr. Rosen just up from the new beach and the park that the town put in a few years ago. The property is not to large (25 rooms) making it a 'Boutique Hotel'.
The rooms are furnished with comfortable king (or two double) beds, flat screen TV's, refrigerators and safes. Bathrooms are clean and comfortable. Air conditioning has been recently renovated.
I intend to deliver the same high quality service that you use to receive at New Garden when I was working there, with some of the same staff. Breakfast will be included in the room rate.
I will be staying on site, so you can be assured that the level of attention to detail will be a commitment of all staff 24/7.
I am really looking forward to seeing all of you again and will provide you additional updates in the very near future.
Your friend.
Wilfried"

if none of that bothers you then'll it's a great hotel to stay at. and the free breakfast is awesome. in fact, every morning i just skip the bland, small-portioned free breakfast at terra linda and just pay for the breakfast at new garden. it's good and cheap compared to other places like baileys (good, but expensive).
if you stay in the new wing at new garden then you will be good. the walls are pretty thick and so the the sliding door glass, so (in combination with the a/c) it's quiet in your room for the most part during the day and night. never had any wifi problems either.

But seriously, that place is way over priced for what they offer room wise. I've stayed their 4 times (when they had reasonable prices) because I prefer the mostly tranquil atmosphere there to the frat atmosphere at New Garden. But like you said, the Wifi at Terra Linda is mostly non-existent unless you are in the A wing or go and sit in the restaurant or by the pool area (near the front office). They give you a fucking wooden bar stool for your room, and your only other seating options are the two plastic chairs on the balcony, which is retarded. The last time I stayed there they changed the wall color of the rooms from white to a peach looking color, which was also retarded.
The only other good thing about Terra Linda is that you don't have a bunch of guys hanging off the balcony hawking you while you take your chica to your room like they do at New Garden. Also, you are a stone's throw away from the Pedro Clisante.
In New Garden's defense though, they do have the better rooms (I've only stayed in the New Wing). I especially like the way the doors are set up like a patio door that you slide closed and lock. New Garden also has electronic safe's (Terra Linda has these busted-up looking rusted tin boxes drilled into the wall) , real chairs to sit in, and larger televisions (those small flat screens that Terra Linda threw up on the wall in your room are a joke) with a porn channel.

Spent the month of November at Mary Rose. Great place, big deep pool, upper deck, huge rooms with kitchens, more of an apartment than a hotel room. I stayed in a room with no a / see, and it was never hot. Ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room kept everything cool, more than a few nights I turned them off and got under the covers. Little bar downstairs, Colin would open up most evenings. Even came in at 9 in the morning on my last day to say goodbye! The property is away from the strip, (pedro clisante) , so quiet at night. But still only a ten minute walk to my favorites, Plan B, New York bar, and of course Passions. If you can't handle walking that far, there's a shuttle service, or just hop on one of the motoconchos parked right outside.
I want to go back now, but it's time to work. See you in 5 months!

Stayed there for 5 nights during Thanksgiving week. Cost was $60 (if paid in cash) for the old wing and $70 for the new wing. When I checked out on Friday, I saw they were asking for $90 per room, but I think that was for the new wing; still a $20 increase.
The good: Wifi coverage was great, but I guess their wifi was registered to DR, unlike the other two hotels I was staying, because I received the message that Pandora is not licensed for that country. No biggie. There were some really nice chicas hanging out (anywhere from 2 to 6) in the afternoon if you were inclined for some afternoon delights. I got a room in the second floor, and had no issues with pool parties or noise from the bar area. The staff is incredibly friendly. Rooms were clean, had a digital safe, but the hotel is old, and the bed, and especially bathroom is showing its age.
The bad: Only ordered once some sandwiches for me and my friend, and it was very disappointing. The pool water always looked very cloudy, so I stayed out of it. It just did not look inviting, then again maybe I was not drunk enough; p.
The ugly: Nothing.
I really like the hotel, the price was fair, location is great. Definitely will frequent that hotel again (as long as those prices are reasonable.

Stayed there for 4 nights before thanksgiving. Cost including tax was $79
The good: I liked the feel of the hotel. Very nice swimming pool. Decent breakfast, large rooms with balcony. An older hotel, but well managed, and clean.
The bad: Wifi coverage was very poor. Their AP was located over their bar in the restaurant. Getting coverage in the room was nonexistent, had to move out to the balcony and sit in the right spot. And I was in the A wing, second floor, one of the closest rooms to the AP.
The ugly: The pool and bar area acts like a megaphone. Around 7 am their 4 birdcages located on one pool side will compete with any alarm clock in your room. I also had the misfortune of having a half dozen guests with their companions have their breakfast from 8 to 11am right in front of the birdcages every single morning I was staying at the hotel. At around 11 am the hotel starts playing cheesy 70s and 80s music for the rest of the day, but that at least was at a volume level when the doors were closed, you did not really hear it. But then there was the TV by the bar, which got turned up whenever there was a game. So, if you liked to sleep in, my timezone was. 4 hours, no luck, and not much better for naps in the afternoon. Rain was the great savior for me. But nighttime very quiet and peaceful.
I really liked the hotel, but that noise level regardless if you were in the A wing or B wing (talked to a guest in B wing who voiced similiar concerns) really make this hotel coupled with the price make this place a neutral for me.

I forgot to mention. The mosquitoes were biting at night in the bar / restaurant areas at night and early in the morning. Bring bug spray.
