If your in barra a great club to go to is a spot called The Catwalk. Its right in barra near the Sheraton. I was there in january and it was really hot full of trendy people and good looking patrons. Not sure if its stil there since this was about 8 months ago.

Another cool spot is called the Jockey club its cool on sundays from around 6pm-12m, a bit of the younger crowd but still lots of fun.

Anyway Praia do Pepê is a section of Barra beach (around Posto 2) especially popular for its kitesurf schools like KitePoint Rio and whose epicenter is the famous and always busy quiosque Barraca do Pepê.

I personally don't really like Barra. My fav beaches in Rio are (not in order) Grumari, Pepino, Ipanema Posto 9 and Leme.

Two Barra clubs; Nuth and Club Ceasar. The best beach; praia de peppi. Whatever you do don't have drugs of any sort with you when traveling back and forth between copa and barra and always have a coppy of your passport with you. The police are notorious for stopping taxis and shaking down foreigners. A good termas; beach club 400.

Right. Symbol is a great spot for the wednesday "noites dos solteiros" - singles nights. The ratio on those days can be ridiculously favorable until about 9 pm when guys start pouring in. It's literally a meat market for women in their 20's.Tuesdays are "flashback" - 80’s MPB - and are good also.

My personnal mid-level fav bar/club is Ballroom on rua Humaita. There's live music everyday (chorro on tuesdays, forro or sertaneja on wednesdays, axe/bahiana shit on thursdays, cover on weekends) and it's filled with approachable middle-class chicks most evenings. I’ve had good luck very often there.

This is not to say that Rio is the best place in Brasil for sex with good-looking non-pros. Sao Paulo is, and IMHO Goiania comes as a second close.

I've been here in Rio for about 2 weeks, with another 2 weeks to go. I've been in an apt. in Laranjerias, and it's great. Across the street from my apt last Saturday night several of the neighborhood Samba Bands were playing for the local crowd. I was sharing a table with this guy, and we chatted a little in English and Portuguese. This girl was selling shirts for her band to raise proceeds, and in an attempt to get some play, I bought 2 for R$25. Of course I got no where with her.

About 10 minutes later I see this other girl dancing alone, and she wanted to share our table, no biggie. She spoke no English, but I managed to communicate pretty good. After about an hour of drinking beer in the rain, the music stopped, and it was time to go. I originally thought she might want to go for another drink at one of the local places. If you're in it to prove a point, well, more power to you. You'll only end up screwing some woman over and reinforcing whatever negative opinion that she has of men in general. And if you're really only learning Portuguese for that purpose, then you're missing out on so many other opportunities.

GDP's or non-pros, you pay for it one way or the other anyway.

My Portuguese in finally getting to the point where I can converse with the local girls. I took a non-pro home on my last trip (November) and had a great time. I dont know what to answer, exept to advice users to use the private message system, for such private posts. And that its easy to delete messages, sent and received, from the guestbook.

Some girls will leave private messages with sensitive content by using the "write a testimonial" feature. When you log in, you see the "new testimonial" first thing, but no one else will see it unless you hit the "approve" button. So you will see what she wrote you first thing, and can delete it without anyone else seeing it.

Other than that, yes, you have to delete your scraps regularly. And if you have a girlfriend, she will pester you about putting a picture of her on your page, and will probably police your scraps more frequently than you do...

I have had a look at some sites. Brazilcupid attracts the working girls. Sites like yahoo encontros tends to attract middle aged divorced women. The type you find in Nuth from time to time. But generally speaking these are women that have married friends and don't have the opportunity to socialise as much as some younger women. Perhaps they want the opportunity to get to know a guy before they meet them. They aren't all after your wallet.
Why look for women like that? Why not? They can be more appreciative of the attention.
