I always figured this part of the country was to be visited with a girl you found in Bangkok. What brings you up there?

I have travelled extensively over this region, as part of work, researching the temples and also the reports of violence and trouble. This province is listed as one of the parts civil war could start if the king dies. Thas etc There are concerns over the number of Cambodian men in the region.

Buriram is a small town but is the city for people in the region and is very quiet and laidback,

I have been involved in a lot of charity work with families in the region who don't have clean water and electricity Supplying water pumps, water filteration, solar power to charge batteries during the day.

This part of the country is Khymer in history, for the layman Cambodian until recently. It does have friendly expats and the people are friendly. But rural.

Imo nicer parts to visit, nothing you can't see in surin etc, however if you like quiet rural places not a bad place to live. Hence the high number of expats.

But if you are looking for a good thai wife. There are plenty here who would love a farand boyfriend but not interested in working in bars etc.

this is only your opinion, i like buriram, it s a quiet and relaxing small town, with delicious and cheap isaan food, friendly people. and " speed disco" is not the only place to find girls. just read the archives if you don t trust me.

but if you have been in buriram only for p4p and high hopes about quality girls and low prices i understand your desillusion.

this is a p4p forum, hence the comments, if you are promoting buriram as a quiet / relaxing place - buriram expats / trip advisor etc are for you. in comparison to the rest of thailand, completely unremarkable in the scenery and quality of the jungle / sights. it is a small relaxing town and if you read the whole post rather than the short quote, i did say the usual smile, be discreet and it isn't a problem to get girls. you have the usual rule of any bar / pool hall / karo bar etc if you are nice / smile etc but that is same all across asia.

I returned twice to Sois and got precisely what I was looking for, so I'm in love with the place again. Price 400 plus a tip one day and 300 plus the next. I revisited soi 7 where I found the much missed house had in fact not reopened.

We also visited the Oscar and Valentine soapies, where we found a good lineup at Oscar and a so-so one at Valentine. The former had around 20 girls with slightly below par ones at the 1350 level and several very nice ones at the 1,650 and 1,850 levels. The latter had just one very pretty but jaded and exhausted looking Bangkok girl at 1,850 while the other half-dozen priced at 1,450 were all a bit too worn.

Budget for the two days:

Hotels - 350+250= 600 bahts
foodstuffs - 900
girls - 1,500
misc - 600

I did see some streetwalkers near Roma but they were the same ones I had seen near the bus station. Or rather, some of the worst/oldest from the bus station. I've never seen the small house you describe, but I've never looked. Was it alone on its soi or were there several?

Thanks for your comments Channy. Yes, the price of everything has shot through the roof in Thailand. Its just not cheap anymore. Roma is OK at 500 baht for air and 250 for fan now, but only a few of the fan rooms have hot water. I find hot water far more important in Isaan in the winter than air. I did not know that there was a hotel connected to Villa Massage. I wonder what was the name? Maybe Kaen Inn?

The hotel name of villa complex was not kaen inn, but simply "Villa hotel". It was ever recommanded in lonely planet!. But maybe the name has change now.

HSH - this seems to be the trend throughout the country - loosening of the old Red/Thaksinish stricter ways. I love the new government. Enjoy it while it lasts gentlemen, no doubt the horrible populists will be back soon.

I recently visited the Sois in Udon, and found them thriving and very 'out in the open' - doors open and girls in sexy outfits visible as you strolled in the street in Soi 2. I drove down Soi Seven as well - lots of touts quoting 700 to bring girls to either the short time hotels or even some regular hotels, and I was shocked to see that one regular house off to the side soi on the left as you enter the main Soi looking open (didn't stop to check, but recommend that someone do so, it used to be a hell of a nice house). I also heard Soi Sow Fie Dang was open as usual but didn't visit.

In Soi 2 I visited the 'better' house on the side-soi to the left (the one where the hidden camera was supposedly brought in), and though it was open it was very picked over and had more men than women in the waiting/choosing area. The girls were very good looking as usual, and priced at the same 600. However when we visited the other houses there were lots of women - more than on previous visits, and many of them were on a par with the 'better' house. However the price for the better looking girls in the lesser houses is now 500-600 depending on the girl, and there was even one 800 baht girl in one house. The pimpmen stated she'd just arrived, though she didn't look as attractive to me as the extremely cute 500 baht girl sitting next to her. Anyway don't worry as there are still plenty of 400 baht girls available - still mostly very attractive but around mid to late twenties in age.

Interestingly the girls were very friendly - usually they are not at all friendly in these types of places. No sullen looks, and lots of smiles and joking friendly attempts to speak English. I suspect its the current 'open' policing which has left them feeling cheerful, the poor persecuted things. Anyway, alas, I didn't actually try any girls as I was exhausted from travelling to Udon, and I kept thinking of Lee66's warnings - I suspect I would be extremely unlikely to get anything I wanted in the room. So, the trip was just a survey, but I'm thinking of returning soon to actually try a couple.

And I may just wear a yellow shirt when I go!

Oh, and btw, the whole town retains its party atmosphere - perhaps it is high season, or perhaps it is the blessed loosening of strictures, but the farang streets and bar-areas seemed thriving and full of very farang-style dirty girls (the opposite of the Soi cuties, but very nice). Prices quoted in most bars were in fact Pattaya level - 500 short, 1,000 long time, 300 baht bar fine. So don't accept or believe if someone tells you its 1,000 short and more for long time in Udon, unless perhaps the girl is a true knockout. Finally there seemed to be a few more late night or all night bars, and even though the law is apparently still the absurd 12:00 AM closing, most bars seemed to have paid their 1:00-2:00 AM fees.

I stopped by Villa once again, where I found that there were a lot of girls in the 'second class' window. When I had visited before I didn't even notice the second window - the first set of girls just sits on a long set of sofas in the open, and are 1,300. The cheaper 1,000 baht girls are just behind a window quite far from the seating area. Perhaps it is intentional to make their imperfections less perceivable, but I saw one that seemed very good looking, and the papa said she was 24.

In the room she turned out to have had a child in the past, so she wasn't quite up to the standard of Khon Kaen soapies. I guess that's the deal at Villa - the 1,000 baht girls have a burst seed-pod, the 1,300 don't. It really does make a big difference, even if there are no stretch marks. Anyway I remember at Lilly (the second-rate soapy at Princess Hotel) the girls had all reproduced, while most had not at the higher-levels of Kosa and Ceasar soapies (say the 1,500-2,200 baht levels).

So, perhaps in consequence of this shortcoming, BBBJ was unusually good, but BBFS could not be had. I went through the motions for a long while in the three standard positions, joylessly and without any pleasure, but finally removed the horrible rubber and acquiesced to a mere handjob. It went on for ages, and I really just didn't enjoy it, so I suggested we just give up, but the girl - as they sometimes do - took this as a challenge and redoubled her efforts. Finally I managed to finish, but without feeling satisfied.

Walk out of the front door of the Roma to the street and turn right. Go less than a block and you will come to a bunch of vendors selling food. The Villa is right across the street. It's a large building and does not have a very conspicuous sign in Thai. Just cross the street and enter through one of two doors (the door near the corner takes you right in near the fishbowl).

Sorry, I don't remember exactly where it is, nor do I remember any signage - there may be none in Latin characters. I believe someone told me it was near or associated with, or connected to, the 'Kaen Inn'. In any case any tuk tuk can take you there, or you can just ask around near the Roma/Pizza Bake area. Asking for 'Villa Ab Nam Nuat' should probably work very well.

Well, gentlemen, I hate that I must always beat this horse to death, but I went to Khon Kaen again. I promise I will visit Udon within weeks and report, but for now its just boring old KK.

So, back to the poonanny. I took a really amazingly attractive 22 year old. Slim and a bit tall. Why is she 1, 300 at Villa when plenty of cows are 1, 700 or even 2, 000 at Kosa. I don't know but it might be due to differences in skin tone too subtle for farang perception. In any case she was fairly pale. In other notations I did drop by the soi of small traditional (fake-Kareoke) brothels, and there were a lot of reasonably attractive women there, most quoting me the 'real price' at 500 baht, with a few demanding 700 for the farang unpleasantness.

I also rather foolishly visited Violin Kareoke. The high end place. At about 3:00 AM. Yes, it was still open! I was charged almost 1, 000 baht for the room, girls drinks, etc etc, but lucked out with a 'game' girl who made out with me extensively, and gave me a pretty good hand job with lots of nipple nibbling in the room, no tip demanded. She kept saying 'no sex in room' though, and finally I had to finish myself off. Kind of a silly arrangement (almost like going to a strip club in the Bad Place), but it was strangely titillating, and there were some quite attractive girls there. They told me it was 2, 000 to the girl to go out for 3 hours of actual sex, pretty much just like Cleo Kareoke in Pullman Hotel. Girls roughly equivalent but perhaps slightly less attractive.

Glad to know you visited villa massage after so many times living here Opebo, but 1300 baths! I used to know the golden age when price was 800 baths. Anyway I always got good time in this complex, have you visited their hotel? Until 2004 prices was 200 baths for air con room with tv(no cable) and hot shower, but rooms was bad maintened with tear sheet bed, and disgusting bathroom, but you are in the center of everything, many girls working the massage and the KTV live here too(alone or with their thai bf). I spend so many good times in this hotel making party with girls. A crap hotel but excellent to get new friends and girls from KTV was not the less attractive

About your last report, I agree with you Roma is a good place to stay(it was the residence of skinless if I ve good memory), sawasdee hotel is excellent too, I don t know now but before the top floor had ordinary room for 160 baths. But rooms was so hot. Also Roma and sawasdee are really well located.
