Besides the early morning (before 7am visit to Soi 2), and another visit after 1pm are there any other mid-morning venues available in Udon Thani??
Don't like having to wake-up the girls on Soi 2, as they normally get to sleep around 7am and don't get up for lunch until 12-1pm.

I do not often post in the Thailand forum (there are a lot of people who have more experience than me in this area) but I recently spent a few days in Udon Thani and thought my brief thoughts as a first time visitor to this city might be useful to others. Udon Thani is not a Pattaya or Bangkok but rather a "Non Tourist" town.

In my opinion the girls here are much more natural and relaxed and much less pushy than their BKK or Pattaya sisters and the whole scene is very "laid back. "

If you are passing through you. T. There are definitely places to go and plenty of opportunities if you look for them.

I stayed at Ton Koon Hotel. 700 Baht / night inc breakfast for a perfectly adequate, and large, room. Yes it is GF.

This hotel is around 20 mins walk, or a short Tuc Tuc ride from the centre of town. Most of the "entertainment" is within a short walk from the central bus station. Several Farrang bars around. The best known probably being The Irish Clock, run by an Englishman and offering good food.

My favourite bar / restaurant was Mojo. Just 5 mins walk from the bus station. Excellent food (Farrang and Thai) with very helpful management and friendly staff. In fact I think that I called in here each day I was in you. T. For a meal or just a drink or two. Currently they have "house doubles" of spirits on offer at 100 Baht (inc mixer.) Mojo is a little unusual as unlike many of the bars you can not bar fine the waitresses and there are no "lady drinks. "

However Dave and the other Farrangs there are a mine of useful information for a first time visitor on the city and the current info on the various places to go!

As has been mentioned previously Soi 1, 2 and 7 all have interesting venues and are only a few minutes walk from any of the central bars. Ton Koon Hotel (and several of the other hotels) have Karaoke and massage available and one hotel (I forget the name but 2 mins walk left from Ton Koon) has a fishbowl with a few rather cute girls when I visited.

A lot of the girls working the smaller establishments are from Laos with the staff being changed on a regular basis with new young girls being bought in, working for a few weeks and then, presumably, returning to Laos!

The 2 night markets (near the railway station) also had a few cute amateurs / part timers on the nights that I visited but, as usual YMMV!

So, Udon Thani is probably not a place that you would want to make a special journey to but, if you are there as a stopping off point on your way to or from Laos there is plenty to keep you amused for a few days.

I recently visited Mukdahan and found thusly.

I asked my tuktuk driver for 'song'. Small brothels. At a cheap price, hoping for Lao houses ala Udon Thani and Nong Khai. Thai friends had told me such do exist in Muck, but the driver didn't reveal them. He did take me to a 300 baht house near downtown but it was definitely Thai as the women (only two there in the afternoon) were not good looking and well over 30. I tried one for 300 but not before the mamasan pushed for 500 and called me 'keeneeow' when I refused. Honestly 300 was too much for the ones on offer.

Tuktuk then offered me 'beautiful' girls for 1, 500. Quite a price leap but these were to be delivered to my hotel. I almost took it but then asked him if they had 'massage' with beautiful girls. I was hoping for a soapy, as many small towns have one highend place. Well he ended up taking me to a regular massage place, where the girls were so-so. In their late twenties and not bad looking. So upstairs and did a slim girl with alas a blown out stomach (baby) bareback for 1, 500. The price was ridiculous, but I just wanted a story to tell before I left town. Later she said she was Lao, but I would never have guessed from the low quality and high price.

Leaving this place the tuk tuk showed me around that area. It is the area near the 'Mukdahan Tower', which looks like a squat water tower. Just outside town. As we circled the soi which goes round the tower quite a few girls called out to me from the little massage or kareoke joints there, and some were good looking. The place I wasted the 1, 500 was on the main road but most of the places were on this soi round the tower. To get there it is on the road out of town which passes the River City Hotel. You could aske the tuk tuk to take you to that hotel and then ask him to keep going till you see the tower on the left.

Lastly I have heard from acquantainces that the hotel delivery quality is pretty good, and I think you could probably bargain to more like 1,000, though that is still a lot of money.

After Mukdahan I stopped in Roi Et at the Mai Tai soapy where I had a cute slim girl only about 20 years old for 1, 500. Alas she refused to do absolutely anything. Very poor BJ. Just a waste of money and time.

On a recent visit to Khon Kaen with a Thai colleague we found the selection very limited at every one of the 'nicer' soapy massage joints, perhaps because it was a rainy Friday night. I have been here on a longer trip once before and thought I would try the area of Soi Fie Dang which I have heard so much about. If you have read this thread you will see previous reports describing this area. It is a small Soi close toi the centre of Udon Thani with numerous lady houses where you will be quoted around 400 baht for a short time. As has been suggested before, do not take a tuk tuk there otherwise you may be charged an inflated price with the tuk tuk driver taking his cut. That said it is not easy to find if you do not know the place and it can be a bit embarrassing asking some stranger as I did, only to find them giving you a knowing chuckle and shouting to their friends to tell them where I am going as the area is obviously well known to the locals.

I would suggest anyone who wishes to visit the area to ask a tuk tuk driver to take you to the Karin Hotel which is situated on Wattananuwong Road a few minutes from ther centre of Udon Thani. The cost should be no more than 40-50 baht by tuk tuk and will land you close enough to the action without the tuk tuk driver knowing where you are going. Once you walk into the lobby, wait for the tuk tuk to disappear and you then cross the main road in front of the hotel and bear right with your back to the hotel. About 5 minutes walk will bring you to Soi Fie Dang on the left hand side. I was there around 12 noon and still had mamasans running out greeting me and asking me in to view the girls. To be honest I did not partake as the area is very low class, the houses are little more than shacks and the girls though young and pretty did not look clean.

I then left and ended up at the shopping mall for a light lunch and a bit of shopping. The shopping mall is a big complex and is full of young women shopping or just hanging out and is a potential pick up spot. I saw two young women walking in the sports shop on the 4th floor and stopped to chat just to see if it was a possibility. One of the girls wasted no time in asking me if I was alone and I knew they were in play. I have heard that if you get the ferry across the Mekong River to Laos then there is lots of village action to be had, but sadly I never had the chance to go and I would appreciate it if anyone else can report on this? I did enjoy my stay in the area, it is like Thailand used to be many years ago, everyone is friendly, people in the street wave to you just because you are a farang andf it is the kind of place I would be happy to retire to with the right girl. But if you are visiting out of horny curiousity I would give it a miss. I travelled there from Udonn Thani by bus, it was 4 hours of torture. I would suggest flying if possible I would not wish that journey on my worst enemy!

Both of us found little or nothing in Nakhon Panom. As you can see he reports there used to be some action on the Lao side of the river there. Anyway nothing in Nakhon Panom as far as anyone knows. If you find anything please share.
