After being warned from my fellow DOG (Dirty Old Gringo. LOL) friend who has hit every area in Thailand, they warned me about going to Khon Kaen. They said the whole nightlife scene sucks and once you do get a girl. Don't expect much. Well, after a solid week here with another buddy of mine, we are calling it quits.

Most of the action happens around Glacier Hotel. Around this area there are a bunch of Thai establishments that cater to Thais. Thai nightclubs where the locals listen to Thai music and drink, your cheap Karaoke Bars, maybe a few pros around the hotel lobby and an entertainment complex called RAD.

We first hit up Rad which supposedly has one of the best gogo bars IN Thailand. I could see why on one hand. Great stage setup, very large, plenty of girls and good service from the bartenders and waiters / waitresses.

The bad: After being in Khon Kaen for a week, we were here a few times and hardly any of the girls danced on stage. Usually there is some Thai band that's playing and I'd say 60% of the girls were sitting doing nothing or talking with the upper class locals (understandable).

My DOG friend who warned me told me that many of these girls are not full out pros like in Pattaya and BK. They are there to get $$$ for pricey drinks and also to look for that one rich hiso local Thai guy. He also said that you can almost be Brad Pitt and the girls won't really flinch. Using the farang charm doesn't work.

He was right. I did talk to a "Model" who are the top tier (according to the bars status) who doesn't go out. Another girl was willing to go out but she was too skinny for my palette. The same happened with my buddy.

Also. The costs for taking out a girl is around 2000 thb. And THEN you have to negotiate one on one with the girl what you want to do and sometimes the girl won't do sex.

So RAD overall gets thumbs down. A semi pro place where the top tier are waiting for the rich hiso guy. Hell. I've had better luck in the regular nightclubs in Bangkok in comparison to this dirty shitty town.

Next stop was the karaoke bar. Pretty cheap (800 baht for ST). But you get what you pay for. It reminded me of the streetwalkers in TJs. Where they take your money, undress only their panties. Try to avoid getting intimate (like holding them, caressing them. Feeling them. Forget about that) and you stick it in, stick it out. Cough up $$ My buddy experienced this a few times so its not just me. I went to different Karaoke bars on three occasions and one was not good with the rest being so-so.

I've had yet to hit the hotel lobby but even if that's good I'm giving up. The fact that my buddy (who gets hit on by regular girls in BK at the mall) had a bad experience as well.

Pattaya is known for overall cold and robotic experiences. Khon Kaen is like that but worse since the whole town is pretty down, ugly, a bit dirty. FUnny how Phillipines gets a bad rap for their infrastructure but many of the 2-3rd tier cities beats Khon kaen.

The DOG buddy who lives in Bangkok warned me to bypass Khon Kaen and head straight to Udon Thani. He said Udon Thani is actually a liveable place, more things to do, the ladies are much friendlier and better experiences. He told me that despite Khon Kaen and Udon not being too far away geographically, he said they were two different cities in more ways than one.

Udon Thani has much better selection, more friendly to farangs, more people speak English there, its cleaner, more things to do. And prices are almost as cheap as Kohn Kaen.

This was a learning experience but I'm glad I'm done with this city. And this is after being warned. Ill head back to BK then off to Udon.

Looks like Shane was right all along. Udon is the place to be. And this is not for nightlife, but regular dating as well. And that's the part that I'm confused. I've always thought people from Isaan would be similar with each other in every city.
