the Manhattan at soi 15 is in a good walking distance to soi Cowboy.
The Regency Park at Soi 22 is much closer. It's part of the Accor Group (Mercure).

sorry, but I have to object.
I used to stay at the Taipan and they are NOT girl-friendly. They will charge you 600 baht unless they have changed their policy regarding this issue.

Just wondering...
Has anybody tried Grand Business Inn before? I'm going to Bangkok in January and wanted to know if this was a decent hotel. Would you choose Grand business or Swiss Park Hotel or Dynasty Inn Hotel?
Thanks!

Posts: 42Davis Hotel: basically girl friendly
First time in Bangkok, and the hotel was supplied by my employers, for whom girl-friendliness is not a criteria when choosing accomodation. Some internet research showed that it appeared to be girl-friendly (it's marked as such), but couldn't find any actual reports to back that up. So here's a run-down for future reference.
The Davis markets itself as a "boutique" hotel, which means the rooms are tastefully, possibly individually designed and very nice. Don't care much about the decoration (all looks the same after a few days anyway) but the room had a huge double bed, nice and firm, and the bathroom (bigger than some hotel rooms I've stayed in) has a big "picture window" looking on to the room itself (there are curtains which can be drawn across if needs be).
The atmosphere is of course a little more refined than some, i.e. they put the staff through smarminess school with special courses in obsequiousness. This had me a little worried about bringing back someone to share that vast amount of bed, but I'd already noticed one or two guys with girls who I'm pretty sure didn't check in with them. And fortunately on the very evening I was sallying forth to score my first barfine I bumped into an older guy coming out of the lift with two young things in tow who I presume weren't there to see his stamp collection.
Later that evening had no problems with my own girl, just walked on in. The same most nights (as things turned out I stuck with the same girl); though I fancy I detected the odd disapproving glance on occasion.
Only once did we get any hassle, and that was about on the third night when we got in about 4am somewhat the worse for wear; the lone woman at reception trotted out from behind the desk, gave that wai which indicates "Houston, we have a problem" and proceeded to jabber away in a very bitchy manner at my girl in Thai. Which got her back up and she gave a bitchy stare back, bless her. Eventually the receptionist demanded my room number, which I gave, and we marched on in anyway. My girl said the receptionist had gone on at here along the lines of "who the hell do you think you are, following one of our guests into the hotel". Thought that would be the end of it, but next morning about 10am there was an insistant ringing of the doorbell, turned out to be one of the housekeeping staff asking if I had any laundry to be done. Perfectly innocuous question for a hotel, but the odd thing was this was the first time in nearly two weeks (and the only time during my entire stay) they had taken any interest in my laundry situation, and didn't seem all that interested in my answer. I reckon they'd seen I hadn't been to breakfast, and was obviously still in the room ("do not disturb light" off, newspaper still hanging on door) with a lady of unknown qualifications and were checking up to see that I hadn't been drugged and robbed by something from the Nana Hotel carpark.
Other than that no problems. The Davis is of course in a different league to e.g. the Nana Hotel (caters to families and well-heeled tourist couples especially) so you won't find any freelancers in the lobby, and a modicum of discretion will go a long way to avoiding any awkward situations.
EDITOR'S NOTE: I certainly hope that the author or somebody else will post a link to this report in the Reports of Distinction thread. Please Click Here for more information.

Posts: 32Hotel near the New Airport
I'm loooking for a reasonably priced hotel near the new airport. Hopefully something with pickup service. I used to use the Comfort Suites Airport, but now that seems to be on the other side of town. Doesn't need to be GF friendly since I'm picking up my daughter and taking her to the islands, A late night arrival and departure whenever the next day will work fine.
Just don't want the long ride into Bkk.
Any help would be aprreciated.

Posts: 1778Is there a Hotel in the Sukhumvit Area between Soi Nana and Soi 26 with wireless or wired internet (I need to use my own Computer) around 1000-1200 Baht?
Town Lodge is getting too noisy because of the Condo Construction next door.
By the way, I found the first really not girl friendly hotel I got across while searching.

The Manhattan and Ruamchitt are in the same price range. 1000 B at Ruamchitt, Manhattan about 1200 -1800 B. Both the hotels are about the same in terms of age and decor except for the lobby. The rooms in Manhattan are much smaller than Ruamchitt, however, Manhattan has a restaurant for breakfast and the lobby is much nicer. Both are GF.
For the value, I prefer Ruamchitt over Manhattan.
