When I need an upscale place to impress someone, or I am seeking luxury: my picks would be: the Plaza Athenee (great value when booked with Starwood Pts as a Category 2), the Sheraton Grande, or the JW Marriott.
For a general purpose full service hotel with a restaurant, pool, and health club - the Dynasty Grande is my favorite, and the best value around for this, IMHO, a better deal than the Majestic Grande or Landmark.
Those are, IMHO, the first ones to consider.Last edited by Admin; 02-01-09 at 19:01.

Hello all
I have been missing in action for a few months fo various reasons (mainly the reality of work).
I will be passing through Bangkok for one night early in Feb and would like it to be a memorable night (well in reality any night in Bangkok is normally memorable).
My plan at present is to stay at Giotto's hotel (subject to availability). Now I've been around Bangkok several times and I think I know the score, however I would like to make my night memorable. Any suggestions from the regulars (and others) would be very welcome in terms on what naughtyness I could get up to.
Thanks and happy new year to all of you!!

I want to fly to southeast Asia and visit several countries, especially Thailand and China. One obvious choice is to fly to BKK and use that as a base to visit other countries. However price is important. Is it cheaper to fly to another city and then visit other places from there? I have done some searches on the internet, but I was hoping some seasoned traveller would know what airports are cheaper to fly into. I will be coming from the U.S.
I have two other quick questions. What is the major airport in Indonesia. I assume Jakarta (cgk). The cheapest tickets I found are to Hong Kong. Airasia does not serve here, what is another cheap airline from HKG?
Thanks for any response.

Here is some news for all of you guys to be aware of:
New airport faces partial shutdown
Mistakes, graft found in almost all contracts
AMORNRAT MAHITTHIROOK
Poor construction at Suvarnabhumi may force parts of the new airport to be shut down for repairs. This would open the way for the recently abandoned Don Muang airport to be re-opened to serve Bangkok's air traffic needs.
Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wongcha-um said yesterday that following a recent report on the problems facing Suvarnabhumi airport, it was likely that part of the new facility would have to be closed and Don Muang airport would pick up the slack.
Board member Yodyiam Theptranont, who heads a sub-panel investigating the problems, said the repairs would take a long time. He could not give a timeframe

No one, tourist, ex-pat or local, wants to be alone on New Year's Eve, so there is more demand than usual for the girls' services that night, hence the price (and BFs) go up. Whether you're talking girls or hotel rooms, it's all a matter of supply and demand. The influx of tourists taking advantage of winter holidays to escape the colder climes of Europe makes things more crowded and intensifies demand for several weeks on either side of Jan. 1.

Hey fellas, I am in Bangkok right now but headed to Pattaya tomorrow until Jan 7th. Was thinking about coming back to Bangkok from Jan 7-10 (when I fly out) Really want to see a lot more of what the city has to offer for the hobby. I know about Nana Plaza (NEP) and hung out at the Biergarten on Soi 7 today. Feels like I am only scratching the surface and would do better if hanging with someone that knows.

In short:
Yes (most expensive time for rooms are the holidays-during this period can expect prices to double or more), Yes (but may depend on your bargaining skills as well) and Yes (not only will there be more tourists but some local Thais will be visiting-so more demands on rooms hence higher prices.

1. Will the room rent go up?
2. Will the girls be more expensive?
3. Will there be more crowd?
Thanks

3) It depends on the establishment. If it's a Go-Go bar you won't have any trouble regognizing the mamasan. Just let your intentions be known to the wait staff and she will find you. Tip the wait staff 20 THB and 100 THB to the mamasan should be enough.
4) you can get one for a week, if that's what you want. Try her for a few nights first before making an agreement for a week.
5) It's not necessary, but it helps. She might ask you to go shopping. Some girls will take advantage of you some won't.
6) Depends on the Bar. I would say that a shot of whiskey is between 50 - 100 THB. Alcohol can be bought in supermarkets and convenience stores. Not much more expensive than in the U.S. Probably less than the U.K. or Europe.
7) ATMs are everywhere and you get a better exchange rate.
