The point of the contests is to promote the hotel, attract people in the area not at the hotel, etc. The girls have no choice, they alternate contests so they don't have to do it every 2 weeks.

If you see a girl you like, the only availability problem is that someone else has already made a date with her. If you see one in the buildup before the contest, set up a time/date, or you will be too late. Any of the girls, in the contest or watching, is available. She might want to watch her friends compete, but make a date for afterwards (or she may not care about the contest and would rather have the date).

My complaint with the contest is that yes, everything in the hotel comes to a halt, and it can last for a few hours, from 4-6?

I try to avoid those weekends now, but if I were there then, and the girl I wanted was not competing, I would try to make a date with her DURING the contest, to make good use of my time.

After reading this I have a question: What is the Bikini Contest really for? Since the girls have to spend their own money and know in advance they might not win, do they just come to the contest to let "us" know they are on the menu? Or do they just leave once its over? Also, in some of the pictures posted I see lots of girls just sitting around ans are not part of the contest. Are they on the menu as well? Or do they just say "I just came here to help my friend (a friend that's in the actual contest)" and leave once the contest is over?

That would be a real bummer to see a chica you want participating in the contest (or just sitting around), only to find out she's not really there to "catch a date" with anyone.
