A colonoscopy in Costa Rica costa costs $300+ any polups. In Colombia it is $180! Both are at top hospitals. Some medications in Costa Rica that cost $1. 00 per pill are almost $4. 00 in Colombia. Generally speaking. Brand name medications cost a LOT more in Colombia or are not even available. In my opinion Medical care in Medellin costs much less than CR. The quality. Give me Colombia anytime. The Medellin hospitals and clinics are 1st class. Maybe better than the USA. Maybe. I had a private health care policy in Colombia. Complete coverage for $210 per month. At 65 years old! It was the best insurance policy I have ever had.

The CR caja insurance is worthless. The Colombian 'caja' might be better. I say might be. The Colombian caja is good for immediate care. For long term it is questionalbe. Again. Bring your medication with you if going to Colombia.
I would like more information about how you were able to sort out your health care. Are you currently living in Medellin or Colombia? (for that matter) Are your costs based on your age? I wouldn't mind getting some tests done when I visit in the Fall since the prices you quoted are way cheaper than in the US.

I find that there are gringo prices in effect in Medellin.

A cap in Medellin is $425. A cap in Costa Rica is $225. Isn't Costa Rica supposed to have a higher standard of living as far as Latin America goes?

anyone used these guys or can make a recommendation of others that are better.
juan carlos mejia is expensive. i had teeth whitening done and he did an ok job (not bad) but i expected more. he is also 60-70% of what it costs in usa. part of it could be that the treatments they use for good quality whitening are all imported. i spoke to others who had veneers and bridges done there and they were happy.

I have been shopping for some crowns. Costa Rica is about 1/2 the price of Medellin. The problem is that you get to sit on the beach for the two weeks it takes to get crowns.

I went to this guy today for a root canal and fixing of a chipped tooth and can't say enough good things about him. Great prices, excellent english and he did an amazing job. Felt no pain and you can't even tell he did anything or that my tooth was ever chipped.

    Dermatologist.

He speaks very good English, his prices are reasonable, he takes his time with you, no rushing. His secretary does not speak English. Usually you can just stop in and they will give you an appointment sometime the same day. Highly recommended.

    Eyeglasses

One time I was walking in El Centro, mostly lost, and on one particular street downtown there was entirely eyeglass or optometrists offices on both sides of the street for a block. There is also an eyeglass place in el Oviedo mall. Which would be cheaper? Assuming you already have a scrip, how much to regular glasses cost, that is, are the frames a lot cheaper there?

    Ophthalmologist/Optometrist

If you know any good Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist, who could speak English, please let me know.

    Thanks a lot!
