    Recent News "Intresting"

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) -- Gunmen shot and killed a paramilitary leader as he was dining at a restaurant in the western Colombian city of Medellin, police said Thursday.

Jaime Andres Angarita, 33, was considered the right-hand man of warlord Salvatore Mancuso.

The warlord was the architect of a 2003 peace deal with the government that has led to the demobilization of 31,000 militia fighters.

Police in Medellin, Colombia's second largest city, said Angarita was shot late Wednesday by two gunmen who escaped on a motorcycle.

Authorities did not speculate on a motive.

Mancuso and other paramilitary leaders have complained of receiving death threats in recent months, purportedly to prevent them from revealing secrets about their ties to Colombia's political elite.

On December 19, Mancuso became the first major militia commander to give closed-door testimony before a tribunal established to examine the paramilitaries' role in some of Colombia's worst atrocities.

The proceedings are being closely watched by the pro-U.S. government of President Alvaro Uribe. His administration has been shaken by a scandal linking several Uribe allies -- including the head of his intelligence service -- to the right-wing militias.

Already three pro-Uribe Congressmen have been arrested for allegedly financing, arming or plotting murders with the militias.

Dozens more lawmakers and top officials are expected to face criminal charges after the Supreme Court reconvenes in January.

The far-right militias were first formed two decades ago by wealthy ranchers to protect their land holdings from raids by leftist rebels trying to overthrow the government for nearly a half-century.

They quickly evolved into powerful criminal gangs that controlled vast parts of the country and are blamed for civilian massacres and other abuses.

    First visit

I will be arriving 1 January. I have been to Colombia before but never to Medellín. I live in Buenos Aires and speak good Spanish. I am considering a few days at VIP or Aussie Greg's until I can find an apartment. To cover my ass I reserved a $9 hotel called Hotel Conquistadores which is near the Palacio Nacional. Maybe I will actually stay there for two nights, or for one night. Or not. If not I'm out $9 or I guess that's like 20,000 pesos.

I have a return flight 7 March but I might not stay in Medellín the whole time. Or I might. Or not. I'm a budget monger in my soul but I made more money than I expected to this year so who knows?

Anyway, anybody with any good current info, expecially on apartments, can post or PM me. I like apartments (privados, casas) better than clubs and am not above fucking street walkers. I like to drink and smoke weed and I'm not averse to hooking up with the same gal over and over but I don't let any chica play me and I don't let any chica get false hopes.

A basic review of current prices (not just chicas but beer and food and so forth) would be appreciated. I did RTFF going back quite a few months.

I spent about 3 weeks getting to know them via email before I left so that definately helped since we knew we were going to like each other before we ever met. It's definately something I intend to keep on doing in the future.
Hey it is worth a shot.... though I am 50 so I guess 30 to 40 would work... I may give it a shot... am planning a trip for the end of January.

    Sorry to hear that

    Npaul,

Sorry to hear that he didn't work out. I'll be in Medellin on Sunday. I have a few local friends that I can ask for a referral.

If I find something, I'll PM you.

Try PMing Antifreeze. He's been through hell and back with a Colombian wife and has lived in Colombia for several years. He should have a contact or at least some advice to give you.

Are you 100% sure it's not your child? Here's one option if it's your child and you decide to give support: invest in property in Colombia and rent it out. Let the rent money pay for your support. I've done something similar to generate some monthly income for my wife's family. Your house investment should increase in value around 5% each year so you won't hardly miss the money your paying out to the kid/mother and you don't have to worry about sending/exchanging money each month. The downside is you have something in your name in Colombia which the kid/mother might try to get.

    Thanks,

Juan Germain-Osario was the atty I was already referred to by Aussie Greg. Juan charged me $200 US for several emails and a phone call to the girl's atty, he was paid in full, he promised to refer me to another atty about a property issue, but he dropped the ball.

His main advice was don't come back to Colombia or you may be arrested for non-support.

Now I does not reply to my emails.

Maybe someone has another atty they can recommend. I am sure there are others in Medellin or Bogota, but I am sure someone has used a good divorce atty in Medellin.

    Attorney

The attorney I have used isn't a family law attorney but he may know one.

    His name is Juan Osorio.

His email is [Email address deleted by Admin]. I don't have his phone number.

    Good luck.

    Good atty recommendation in Medellin

Can anyone post the name and number of a good family law atty in Medellin? I am accused of paternity and am wondering if anyone has been down that road before, or has a good atty who is bilingual.

The atty I was referred to by someone else has not done much except tell me not to go back into the country or I could be arrested for non-support if the girl filed a criminal complaint against me.

    Any advice or atty referral?

    Fantasy,

I will be down in the sewer on Jan 5th. Flying in with Jazz and staying with Armando.

We seriously need to get the old gang together for a party. Maybe we can throw one at Armandos. We can tell him after it is over. (hehe).

Seriously, I think Jim from Fla, bukkake, Art, you, me and Jazz will be there. Sounds like runs to PP, parties, and so forth.

    Lets do this thing.

Can you or someone enlighten me as yo why the atraction to the street action? I myself like a total mixed bag of girls and could not see spending all my time with street hoes while on vacation. Dtreet girls in Medellin can be a hit or miss and that's why I use them very sparingly. They can also be under 18 which is why they are working the street (if that is a concern to you).

But to each monger, his own style prevails.

    Cubanut, whatup *****?

You and I hung out in Medelling several years ago when Greg and Robert were renovating the old mansion.
