What areas are good in Cali

    Hi guys,

I plan to visit Cali next month and I know nothing about the lay of the land and would like some advice. It would be great if some of you guys know Medellin as well for the use of comparisons. I plan to stay in an Airbnb because I stand a better chance of not having too many people monitoring me and my guests. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When in MDE I like to frequent ground zero aka El Centro but I would never want to reside there. I like the bars and strip clubs but when it's time to lay my head I want to feel comfortable. Belen, la 70, and laurales are my got areas when trying to find a nice safe and secure location with costing an arm and a leg. These locations were also pretty close to everything as far as when I want to visit El Centro, la70, or El pablado (parque llyres). I've stayed in pablado several times and I love the fact that I could walk to the clubs at parque llyres and the close proximity to nice restaurants but too many street vendors are always there ready to pounce on the gringo tourist and try to sell them something.

All and all, I'd like to hear you guys opinions on key areas in Cali taking into account price, safety, proximity to chicas and clubs, etc.

    Thanks in advance guys.

    Hotel and area recommendation.

Can someone please guide me where you say and some guest friendly hotels in that area, for idea I usually go to Medellin and stay in Laureles or Centro area, looking for a place near the action.

    Thanks.

Most hotels in Cali are cool with visitors for no extra

Just email or whatsapp whichever hotels you are considering and ask. Most will let you have visitors for no extra charge. I just recommend when you arrive to be discreet. Most hotels cater to a wide variety of different clientele. There might be businessmen and women, families, and Europeans etc. I think it's generally acceptable as long as you're not flaunting it, making lot's of noise, playing loud music etc.

Like the hotel in Medellin we stayed at, only the girl you register can stay in the room. If I see this price again, I would jump on it.
No random guests, this is bad. From what I read in these Colombia threads, the default in Colombia is for hotels not to be girl-friendly. This is a huge con in Colombia compared eg to Brazil.

The favorite part is it is within 15 minutes walking distance from, Chicas Linda's (highly recommended if you like 18-25 yo petite), Dr. Amor (if you like it thick like the locals seem to), Faron (never stopped), Eventos Liz (highly recommended on Wed, Fri, and Sat. Show days).

Also it is a short $6000 cop taxi ride from the bus terminal where you take the $8000 cop bus to the airport. I have made the walk at 1 am from Eventos Liz (10 min) and never felt un safe.

Anyone stayed here lately? Is it still chica friendly? Has God reviews online from what I have seen.

Hmmm, might want to think long about getting a place that's not vetted. I got an ABB in San Antonio, and the pics looked good, but when I arrived I realized I made a big mistake. This guy's place was a real shit hole, and for more money than a lot of other places in Cali. It was if he got up and walked out before I arrived. I lost 150 bucks for staying one night there.

I'd like some recommendation for a place to stay. Initial plan is to arrive on July 29th, planing to stay the weekend in Cali then I'll move to Tulu for about a week, where I have some friends and then I'll go to Medellin.
It obviously depends on things like budget and location, but I've found the Gran Hotel Cali to be solid value with large one bedroom apartments and kitchens. It's centrally located, safe, and has helpful staff. The one thing I will note is that there is a salsa place across the street so it can get loud on weekends (so request a room at the back). They were fine with girls, but I only brought back a couple. No charge.

If you're looking more up market, the Hotel Spiwak at Chipichapi was nice and right on top of the mall there. The area is more upscale. Nice pool, food, etc. I stayed there the night before going to the airport.

    San Antonio

Don't know about rental agencies but I just returned from Cali and decided to stay in San Antonio barrio for a few days, which is the old Puebla area above the city. During my walkabout, I noticed a lot of apartments for rent by individual landlords. There are also about a half dozen hostals and / or small boutique hotels.

There is no night life in San Antonio though I did walk with a calena one night to a salsa bar. There are quite a few nice restaurants and cafés in this area and it is very quiet and safe. It's popular with locals as they visit the park and old church in the early evening.

Any updated info for reliable apartment rentals in Cali?

I can't believe there are people still doing business with this guy. He is a piece of crap. If he's pulling this shit on Colombians, he will get fucked up sooner or later. Gringos just give him a bad review. I can't see Colombians being as restrained.

You can do a Google translate, but basically what she writes is that her two working colleagues, who rented the place, had no hot water after the second day, and that Arturo or Arthur Brode as he sometimes calls himself, not only refused to do anything about it or offer a token refund, but was also rude and even threatening.

Buyer beware! Please don't do business with this guy, for your own sake!

Hello George, I can suggest my place just 25 minutes outside of Cali. It can very well accomodate all 6 of you guys as it has 10 rooms to choose from. The price would depend on the amount of nights your group plans on staying and the services you would like included (I. E. Food, transportation, liquor, etc.). I also work with a variety of girls who offer "companionship" to my guests, in case you want to have that party atmosphere, as you and your friends would be the only guests staying at the house. As the owner of the place, I can say that I'm flexible with the prices and I can take your budget to work out a deal that both parties are satisfied with. [Deleted by Admin]
