Speaking of pens, I've also puffed on them in all the bars. Technically they're not allowed in HK. One time the door guy who patted me down at the entrance found my pen in my pocket and he smelled it to see if it was a cannabis pen and he said I couldn't bring it in. But he asked me if I had a room at Las Cascadas, which I didn't, so I'm not sure why he asked. But I've had my pen in HK before it just depends on how good the door guy pats you down. Or maybe if you grease his palm a little bit? But all the other bars couldn't care less it seems like, especially if you're in there spending money.

And as far as crossing the border with it. You'd have to be a complete moron to get caught with a small amount. I mean the Mexican border guys have never searched me entering Mexico. The times I've been flagged all they do is look in my trunk for like 2 seconds and maybe check my license and registration. A couple of times I got sent through the xray thing but I think that's only to find guns or maybe large amounts of cash? I doubt that a joint or a vape pen would be noticed. Now the local police they will completely ransack your whole car, pat you down, grab all up in your crotch, the whole nine looking for anything they can shake you down for. In my experience crossing the border is a breeze, but the local cops you've got to beware of those bastards.

Maybe the door guy would have said it is OK to vape in your room but not in the club? I have found the management to be helpful when you are renting a room for the night if you are just a little nice to them. They seem eager to please paying customers.

Of all the frequent posters here you are one of the ones who I think is legit and I respect your opinion on most things. But to say people will go to prison for having a personal amount of weed is flat out hyperbole. Can you direct me to reports besides the one posted recently where anyone did more than a day in jail for a personal amount? I posted about being caught with a vape pen and stood my ground and only had the weed taken. There is like 10 pounds of personal small amounts of weed coming thru the border to Mexico every day (estimate). If you get caught at the border you might have to spend a night in jail if you are one of the. 0001 that gets caught. If you get caught in public can probably get away with bribe for $20-$30. I stand by my statement with one important correction. I used the word prison when I should have used jail. Important distinction and totally my fault. Apologies. That said, maybe I have a lower tolerance. One night in a Mexican jail is enough to make me be far more cautious than bringing things across the border.

And you are right, the penalties for being caught vary greatly. Yours was confiscated. Some pay small mordidas. Some larger. Some get the luxury ride in the paddywagon and some spend a night in jail. So it is a crapshoot. I'm not going to claim to be Mr Pure. I've actually never smoked but I have participated in other activities. But I am extremely cautious. I have never purchased anything myself. And I only discuss such matters with people that have earned my trust over months and years.

As I mentioned earlier, the bars in the zona are very safe, especially HK. Adelitas is a little less liberal about it. I think it's a little more frowned upon there. I had one close call and that was a drunken mistake. One of my amigas, who seemingly knows all the right people, made a mistake. We were bar hopping on Revolucion in the wee hours of the morning. Feeling very good. Well, she asked the wrong mesero in the wrong bar who decided to call the cops. After she argued with the mesero, she thought it best to run when he wasn't looking. Me and another amiga stayed a bit, since we really had no interaction with him and walked away minutes later. The cops never showed up that I'm aware of. But, that was definitely a buzz killer and only heightened my cautiousness.

I agree that in the zona, you are more likely to pay your way out of it. I also agree that a personal amount would almost always pass through. But I do think a mordida at the border won't go as far as it does in the zona.

Again, apologies for the prison vs jail comment. I appreciate you pointing that out. And it's really not a personal vendetta against weed. I just read so much here about how policia crack down on gringos for nothing, I just want all to consider that when they give them a real reason.

No offense but you guys sound like amateurs. Get yourself some alternative delivery methods. I've crossed 5 times in the last year to Tijuana and all 5 times never had a problem bringing in more than enough for myself and for the girls. Gummy edibles, oralmucosal spray, micro tablets, tinctures. I just pack them in my toiletries bag with the rest of my meds.

You also have the ability to read the trouble some gringos have had when the policia have nothing on them. I wish you luck. When you drive past Mexico's immigration check point at the El Chaparral crossing, there are signs saying marijuana is illegal in Mexico.

I have seen a cute HK girl lit up a joint right at Kowloon bar. She gave me a hit. The girl is a pretty drug head. She's always spaced out walking around the club like a zombie.

The other girls would go into a small restroom above Miami, lock the door and smoke in there. One night 3 girls went in and locked the door. Soon I smelled MJ smoke. I knocked on the door, they pulled me in. 3 of them were smoking and having a silly good time. My wingman waited long then knocked; also got pulled in. 5 of us crammed into the tiny restroom, smoking, kidding around, kissing, groping. The girls were lots of fun.

I have seen local guys take girls in that restroom to smoke shit, carefully engaging a security guy sitting outside to guard the door.

Marijuana is illegal in Tijuana by the ways locals act scared.

A little birdy told me that the newer area overlooking Miami has far less camera coverage. While I've not seen any marijuana there, other products are used fairly openly. It's usually fairly empty but I have seen a fair share of interesting things up there.

Sorry, but being shaken down by a cop is a far cry from being busted by the Mexican border agents. I strongly suspect that a mere 900 peso bribe will not get you out of that mess. But do whatever you want, I'm not your mother. Don't come bitching here if things go sideways.

Maybe they want to experience the "Jailed Abroad" experience. . . One Jailed Abroad shows a few American partiers in Mexico crammed into a filthy Mexican cell, eating cockroach tacos and other crap, and then breaking out to run for the border by going through a sewer line. . . Getting caught with a few joints or whatever allows you to get free room and cockroach tacos at a Mexican jail filled with angry desperate Mexican gangbangers and criminals who hate your guts. . . Lots of fun for partiers who want drugs in Mexico. Worth it?

You're an adult and can do anything you like. I don't care. I think the signs stating that it's illegal to bring marijuana into Mexico are pretty clear. One most likely won't get caught. But there is a chance, and they can make your life a world of shit if they decide to. If one joint is really worth it, by all means smuggle away. Or you could just buy it in Mexico and avoid the potential grief.

Regardless, I have never figured out, in my decades of traveling, why so many Americans think laws don't apply to them the second they set foot in a foreign country. And that most definitely doesn't apply to just Mexico.
