Making that you turn is a bad move when there are cars that are waiting on Padre Kino to get up the Sentri ramp in front of you. My Mex / American friend who has been driving in Tijuana for 30 years and goes down almost every week said that if a cop sees you do that you will get hassled. You should go down to the next round about and circle back and wait in line like everybody else. If you did that in front of me I would fuck with you too. Maybe next time it won't end so well for you.

Train only runs 2 or 3 trips per day, costs more and takes longer, sometimes late. It stops at the depot in downtown SD and you have to take the trolley to the border.

Buses run about every hour from 6 AM to 10 PM from LA straight to San Ysidro. Besides Greyhound there are other discount bus lines on the same route. Google them.

Car is the quickest and more flexible with time going and returning. Traffic is tame, just be careful with pot holes and high curbs that can really damage your car. With SENTRI cars can cross back within 10-15 minutes, without SENTRI the car line is 2 to 3 hours wait every night.

The driver recommended a Hotel. You wanted a Motel. In Mexico there is a difference Hotels are just that. Hotels. Motels are short-time places that normally rent in 4-hour increments (there are overnight possibilities during the week at some). The are all "chica friendly," as that's the reason they exist. Villa Dorada and Via are both Motels, as are La Mansion and El Premier.

There are all sorts of hotels in the area. Couldn't you have asked your taxi driver to recommend a couple of others? Motel Via is just down the Via Rapida from Premier. Villa Dorada is just down the via rapida from Motel Via. Motel Tijuana is right in the 5 why 10 area. Motel Paraiso is right in Centro, although it's a dump compared to the others. There are about 10,000 other, smaller, motels. You'll see the signs all over advertising rooms starting around 200 or 300 pesos.

The motels get really busy around 8 pm, although I'm surprised they had zero rooms. They might also be short staffed during the week, They may not be able to keep the rooms cleaned fast enough.

I don't like the idea of having a car in Tijuana or leaving a car at the border for days at a time so I took a greyhound.

  -Greyhound from LA to TJ - 7/10 - price is excellent, drops you off right at the ped bridge.
  -The only reason I didn't take a train was because all the talk of "trolley" turned me off (I assumed like a san Francisco cable car) but upon passing it, it looks basically like a regular train which seems great so maybe I'll do that next time
  -Hotel Ticuan seems good so far, my only complaint is they've blocked the web domains for MLB and CuminTJ (maybe some others) so more hassle than it needs to be. Luckily I already had karelia at CIT lined up before my trip
