I've been a big fan of the Orchid inn, but my last visit was a bit of a pain. Running toilet, dripping faucet, dispute over water consumed, etc. I like having a fan room, but the lowest setting wasn't working. Moving on to the 2nd setting and it sounded like a helicopter taking off in my room. Buko recommends the annex, which is newer. The rooms are a bit dark for my taste, but the appropriately located mirrors have a certain charm. Oh, almost forgot. There is a massive construction project going on adjacent to the OI. You might be out relaxing poolside and then hear a thunderous noise as if there is a catastrophic building collapse happening at the construction project. Relax! It's just a garbage / waste chute that comes down from the upper floors.

I also stayed at the brand new Queens. Prices for the cheapest rooms were over 3000, but I liked it. I'll try to do a review later. Especially if anyone is interested. The Italian restaurant (Piccolo?) at Q is the best in AC imo. I preferred the atmosphere of the restaurant at the old location, but they do have good food. Good food often comes at good prices, you've been warned.

I also popped into Penthouse to see a room. I think someone has already mentioned the glass-walled shower / commode. Awwwkward. This is a big building and there are only two elevators. One was out of order when I was there. I've got a bad feeling about this place. They had a lot of fireworks for their grand opening in late December. The roof / pool is still not open though. I have to admit, I took the short cut from Orchid Inn to Santos Ave. LOL, AC regulars will understand.

1pm bus from Brass Knob, I met an interesting guy who stayed at Tiger. I suspect he is an ISG member, so maybe we can get a review for that hotel. LOL. X Man.

Would second the recommendation of Kim53. Clarkton is a great all-around hotel. Great food, large pool, clean and spacious rooms! The only drawback I can see is that their location could be better. But they offer free transpo to and from Fields.

You should have stayed at their annex which is separate and much newer then their main building.

There is now an airport bus following the increase in Middle east traffic.

Do you mean there is a bus that leaves the airport going to Angeles? Can you expound on that?

Looking for a one month rental for the month of June, would prefer an apartment or studio close to the action in AC. Any advice or recomendations.

There was a BM who always insisted on renting a car and driving up to AC. Each and every time he drove, he would be stopped and shaken down by the police to the tune of 1000's of pesos! If I have the need to rent a car, I always make sure the car comes with a driver.

That sucks, Fuck the police!

I am pretty clear now that riding the bus is the best.

If you mean on Fields Avenue then there is an ATM outside the ABC hotel or several over in the SM mall. The best option though is to use Citibank on MacArthur Highway as that one is fee free

If you mean at the airport (DMIA) then yes there are 3 ATMs outside the terminal doors.

No I have never tried it. It seemed like a decent idea so I thought I would ask. I never heard of Swagman so I do not know about the bus. Is he a member here?

I'm in Makati. Anybody ever crazy enough to rent a car and drive up here for the weekend? Is it a bad idea or ok?

I stayed in Orchid Inn hotel and it is a place I do not recommend at all.

Just two good points: it has swimming pool and very central location.

Against: cockraches, old rooms (standard is a dump and deluxe room is better but old, is no worth the money you pay for it)

Swagman is a hotel in Ermita just off of Roxas Blvd. On Flores. They have busses that run to AC three times a day for 600 php. Around the corner from Swagman is Southern Cross Hotel. They also run busses but I don't know where they drop off.

Really, that's really great info to know. I appreciate the heads up. Way better then renting car- Glad I asked!

I had been to Angeles a year ago and I stayed at Phoenix Hotel. I had paid 1800 peso for a room without breakfast. It had similar problems: old room, cockroach, dirty swimming pool etc. Only the staff in the restaurant were nice.

Would you like to share a better option as I will be visiting Angeles again this year. I know ABC and Lewis Grand may be better as their price may suggest.

I stayed in Orchid Inn hotel and it is a place I do not recommend at all. Several better options no far from the action.
