Some hotels have NS rooms but the common areas and restaurants reek of smoke odors. That is why I stick with a hotel that has a NS policy through the property.
None of the hotel rooms are non smoking even if they tell you or advertise as non smoking. Only thing they do is deodorize trying to mask the smell but smell never goes away. You can never avoid smoking smell in Angeles because clubs, bars, discord all are full of smoke. And more and more girls are smoking these days.

Have used AirBNB in AC. The unit I had was very close to a 7-11. Was suitable for my purpose. I did not feel as secure at the particular apartment as I do in a hotel or my regular place.

I have been using AirBNB in Manila for my past few visits. Have also been suitable.

In AC & Manila coordinating with the owners is just that little bit harder than it needs to be.

I read pages of tripadvisor reviews but didn't see any complaints about a smoke smell. Anybody know? A room that smells like smoke would be a deal breaker for me.

Breakfast! Why don't they offer a good breakfast buffet?! I know they have it in Clarkton, but I don't like the rooms there and it's far away from the action. Pool is also a must in Angeles. Close to Walking Street of course. Good prices which means for me around 50 / night or less in Angeles.

    Thanks for any advice.
How about the Pacific Breeze? It's very close to Walking Street, in a quiet area and has a nice pool. No breakfast buffet though (like most hotels in AC as far as I know), but it has a restaurant although I admit it's not the best in town.

Rooms from 2100 PhP but the best rooms are 2500 PhP or up, because the cheapest rooms don't have windows. And if you pay cash you get a 10% discount.

    Three hotels in August 16

Last year when I was in Angeles I tried 3 hotels to find the best one for the future. Each of them had advantages but after reviewing everything I am still on the look for the right one.

First I was in Swiss Chalet. Strong points: Close to Walking Street, big rooms, clean, cheap, mostly quiet. Weak points: No pool, no breakfast included, the furniture seems to be out of the last century, very loud refrigerator.

Old Amsterdam: On Walking Street, still quite, good prices, helpful stuff. Weak points: On Walking Street, pool only at Queens, no breakfast included.

Valentinos: Strong: Clean, new, easy to reach from Walking street, good prices. Weak: No pool, no breakfast, noise from the floors.

So for the future I like to try Queens and Lewis Grand. But maybe there are better recommendations. What is important for me: Quiet at night, no noise, so sleeping is at least an opportunity. Breakfast! Why don't they offer a good breakfast buffet?! I know they have it in Clarkton, but I don't like the rooms there and it's far away from the action. Pool is also a must in Angeles. I always stay at Orchid Inn Resort. Good rooms, staff, food, pool, one block to Walking Street but far enough away from the noise and riff raff.

Review Score Birds 2 nights / 3 days

Based on others who recommended this hotel (see below) I stayed at Score Birds for 2 nights 3 days with no reservation. I paid as I recall 2,900 pesos night. The BAD (as other have reported) is the early morning 3 AM pounding music noise coming from next door is bothersome so if you're the type of person that needs silence to sleep this may not be the place for you. The ONLY other bad is the lack of hot water and water pressure in the shower.

Aside from these two negatives everything else is GREAT including the easy in and out for your girl guest, the pool and pool side bar, the exceptional friendly attitudes of all the hotel staff, room air conditioning, strong wifi, the food served 24/7, the beautiful rooms with great furnishings and lighting and the location is superb as your in the heart of the place to be. All is nothing short of perfect.

Yes I will stay here again should I ever return to AC.

    Angel's Bakery

Scrambled eggs cooked perfectly, a proper coffee made on order from freshly ground beans and amazingly good cinnamon buns to go with the coffee.

Lunch was usually a sandwich on freshly baked bread. And a cinnamon bun or strudel for dessert.

A lot of locals would come in here and buy bread or for those sitting down, the waitresses knew exactly what they wanted. This one older German gentleman, obviously a regular, joined his friend at a table and ordered white sausages. However today, he didn't want the pretzel. Just the sausage with mustard. The poor waitress was so confused as to how he could change his regular order, why did he change it, is he okay, did the doctor say something, was the pretzel not good yesterday? It was very funny to see how much she cared and even when she brought his sausages, she kept asking if he wanted the pretzel. For crying out loud regulars, don't change your routine. It messes with the waitresses.

With my schedule, I saw a lot of the same people at breakfast every day and a similar crowd for lunch. A lot of expats with their families would be there for lunch. Nice to see a family venue in a place like Perimeter road. This says a lot about the place.

I can't say enough good things about their food and service. Highly recommended. Especially the cinnamon bun.

The staff are very friendly and professional. They always greet you with a smile and you don't get the "walk of shame" stigma.

I did have a few issues.

    - The shower drain was clogged. I mentioned this to Mel as I was going out and it was fixed when she cleaned my room.

    - There were about a dozen tv channels when I first got there and within a day I only had four channels. I mentioned this and they weren't able to fix it. Not sure what technology gremlin attacked in the night. (But I do have very fond memories of getting a blow job in my room by a girl while watching Game 4 of the NBA finals and getting a two girl blowjob while sipping a beer and watching Golden State win in Game 5. So, really, it's not that big of an issue.).

    - Towel policy. I hate the limitations on how many towels they are willing to give you.

    - I wanted to extend my stay and they were very accommodating to make the changes.

    - The concierge always had change to break a large note for my daily needs.

I was concerned about the noise coming from High Society but it never bothered me. Even when I would sit by the pool at night, it wasn't that loud.

They are slowly demolishing the building next door and that had some construction noise. It wasn't too bad while I was there. Not sure what will be built on that site but the future construction will be loud and will probably start early in the day.

    Recommend Score Birds for:

    - the pool and 24 hour restaurant and bar.

    - The layout. Especially the entrance. Is very inviting. There is no front door to be opened; just say Hello, to the doorman and walk in. A lot of the Perimeter girls had not heard about Score Birds but as soon as they walk in, there is no ostentatious lobby or a barrier of a door, but a very inviting swimming pool and you could see the girls smiling.

    - Location to Fields.

    - Clean comfortable room and very solid beds. Not a creak to be heard.

    - Drinking water in the room.

    - No issues with booking through Agoda and no delay in check in or check out.

    I didn't like:

    - I wasn't that impressed with the swimsuit costume or the evening live events. But I understand that a lot of guests would really enjoy the bikini competition or the Friday night live band etc.

    - Stupid towel policy.

    - Shower water pressure low and the hot water was barely lukewarm.
Indy, partly based on your post above I got in to AC at about noon today and am happily content sitting in my Score Birds room relaxing before my pub bar crawl planned for tonight. I took a swim in the pool this afternoon and yes agree that the staff treats you very well and welcoming. So far so good.

The store front is yellow which is also the color of the staff's uniform. It has all manner of pastry as well as conventional breakfast fare. And the cook can make an egg without fucking it up which seems to be a talent in short supply in the PI. They also have fresh squeezed OJ. Additionally, they serve the usual over-salted and indigestible Filipino breakfast items which will be to the liking of your morning-after Filipina date.

The owner is German and he serves perhaps the best of the wurst in AC. The female staff has been there for years which should tell you something about the character of the place.
