An alternative while we're on the subject - more substantial but less quiet

Posts: 4567Are you referring to the public jacuzzi or in room?
I've never met anyone satisfied with in room hot baths or jacuzzis. You can't get the water hot enough...just take a friggin shower. Leave the rubbie duckies at home. :-) X

Posts: 711The new wing at Clarkton is as good a LG. Similarly wonderful staff. Recommend both but they are out on the perimeter.

Posts: 38Can you give advice on which hotel to choose for a nice room with jacuzzi?
I'm currently considering the Royal Amsterdam, but cant find many recent reviews.

Would you order Swiss cheese at McDonalds?

Back in Swiss Chalet after a few days of luxury in Blue Rock, Subic Bay. This time I'm in the luxury suite, only one available.
I am relaxed, calm about the fact that things don't work (eg free computer and internet in the room except it doesn't boot up, several lights don't work, the safe jams, bathtub but only water goes to the shower head and so on).
The good thing, the very good thing, is the excellent bed. I really wish I had ignored everything else about Swiss Chalet cos the bed alone is worth it at the price. In the west it would be in a stately home.
But I'm tired and, against my better judgement, order a hamburger in my room. I had only eaten in Swiss Chalet once before, when I was in a standard room, and was very unimpressed. But surely anyone can do a hamburger, right?
Wrong. I have eaten hamburgers in the Bronx and they were posh food by comparison. This made me feel ill. The burnt offering had no resemblance to meat. I bit into and chewed - cardboard tastes better - and cardboard doesn't leave a piece of plastic sticking between your teeth. I discarded the piece of slightly stale, uncooked cheese, and after forcing much of it down ate some of the delicious Swiss chocolate from the minibar. But now I felt like sh*t. I ask to speak to the managaer/owner. He's too busy. Eventually I just take the food remnants downstairs and he accosts me at reception. Why did I eat so much of it without complaining? To be honest, he was downright rude while I tried repeatedly to be polite and civil.
Swiss Chalet is mostly sold out. It is a beautiful hotel but needs new ownership - someone who actually cares a bit. Service I had was repeatedly poor (room not serviced, repeatedly, promises not kept and so on). But some of the staff try very hard and I feel they are let down by bad management. Needless to say I feel exceedingly unwelcome now. If you stay there, I suggest you expect the worst, and hopefully you might be find it better than I did. It has a good location - central and quiet. The rooms I had (both standard and luxury suite) both smelt of stale smoke. But it does have good points. Just not enough for me to ever want to stay there again I think. :(

Posts: 2345A lot of hotels seem to sell out. I discovered this as I only booked two days in advance. The best one I looked at by far was Blue Nile - although the downside is the noise from the street till 4am. Nevertheless, if I was going to be out late I would try to stay there before anywhere else I think if I went back to AC another year.
A common problem seemed to be the smell of stale tobacco. Possibly thru the aircon(?) The first room I had in Swiss Cottage suffered from this, as did a very expensive hotel round the corner (Wild Orchid? - I didn't book cos of the smell).

Then again, flyig out of Reagan National (wash dc) tomorrow and after 40 inches of snow the last few days (and all airports closed here), perhaps I'm going to have to cancel my reservation, haha.
