Update having completed my 3 day stay at DP. I think it's a decent place to stay, good location, easy walking from Fields...

Is that a safe walk at night? Looks like something I'd normally avoid.

Update having completed my 3 day stay at DP. I think it's a decent place to stay, good location, easy walking from Fields but not too loud so you can get some sleep. Current room price is 1400/1600 P with discounts available for extended stays. It's position opposite the hygene centre where every working girl in AC has to come each week to get checked up, means there is plenty of eye candy floating around. They have also decided to hire 10 girls to hang around the pool and restaurant area to spice things up. I think the idea is that if you buy them a certain no of lady's drinks, you can take them away to have your pleasure with. The first 4 showed up yesterday and I think some more will arrive over the next week. Should spice up the pool area which now has a jacuzzi, water slide and various inflatable stuff. The rooms themselves are fine, about a year old but nothing exceptional. The main owner is a little eccentric but has a generous spirit and it adds to the atmosphere of the place.

I find there is a good atmosphere, and its designed to encourage guys to start chatting with each other so its very easy to make pals and share info etc. I also like the fairly laid back atmosphere of the owners. If you are a repeat customer, they don't give you BS about having to get out of your room at 12 noon if they have rooms available. My flight leaves at 8 pm and they Okied me to extend check out 6 hours without cost or hassle, in sharp contrast to most hotels I know of.

I try to email don paul 3 time without respond are they still in business, damn bastard central park try to raise the price after I confirm booking with them in dec at 32 USD for standard for end of feb, I stay there last yr at 28 USD I still have my bill and they told me they have not have this rate in 3 yr, tell roselle to kiss my ass.

Well Ive ended up staying there, the rooms have racks with hooks etc now so maybe they took your advice. I do feel they are quite freijndly Everyone seems to remmerb me and is keen to get me a good room, buyt me abeer etc, it makes it feel like home, Theyve got a smal pool now with funslide and floating stuff and the girls em to like splashing around

i have used them before, late model cars in new condition. good ac.

if you want the driver to go fast. just tell him pas-pas, if not they try to drive a safe speed. (at night maybe it is a good idea to drive at a reasonable speed)

I did not like Donald Paul and cannot recommend them. I stayed one night there last November: my room and my friend's room had absolutely no place to hang towels or clothes in the room or the bathroom, I mean nothing, no hooks, no racks, not even a little something coming out of the wall. No closets, no cabinets to put clothes in, nothing like that. Just a bed, a table, a TV stand and a fridge. Nothing else that I would expect from a hotel room that cost 1500p/night. I mentioned this to the owner the next day and he got very defensive about it. With that kind of attitude, he can do without my business. Just my $.02.

I swapped a few emails with I guess the reservations manager at the Sunset for a visit there in mid February and they also advertise a pickup/van service from Manila Airport for 2600 php.

Since I'm arriving on a midnight flight I'm thinking the fare is not altogether unreasonable since I'm not stoked about grabbing a cab at midnight from Manila to AC.

Any other "midnight" suggestions for MNL to AC?

I did stay in Sunset last year. The room I got was like you see on website. Its not very new but for the price it was fine. They also have a safe at room. The pool is very nice, too. No problems with girls but the receptionists are not friendly like I found other places. But that did not bother me. Its easy to catch a trike or jeepney in front of the gas station which is in front of.

But I did leave after one night, because it was really noisy for the whole night. You can hear every trike on perimeter. I did some reserch for many the noisy was big problem but there also many who don't have problem. Its always fully booked. Someone told there are 2 quiet rooms above reception.

I use it as a short time hotel when necessary. Clean, quiet and the rooms are fairly modern. Rate for a couple hours is 600 peso. For over night I am not sure??? If you want a decent hotel close to the action you really can not beat Pacific Breeze.

i don't live there so maybe not the best gauge. to me, internet service is usually ok to good, but i've experienced outages there many times in some of the better middle tier hotels. the infrastructure in pi is pretty much crap and not overly dependable. power outages are not unusual. if there is a power outage which is probably more likely during bad weather then you take a chance if your work is urgent. you can get a service through your cell phone there as a backup i suppose, but not sure of the quality and speed. if you go, maybe pick during their good weather times if you can. it's not that it happens all the time, but i am not that confident if my livelihood depended on it.

My ambitious vacation plans for Nov 2009 fell through, and it looks unlikely I will get anything other than a few days off at a time for the first half of 2010, but I would really like to spend quality some time in AC...so why not work from there!

I'm looking for suggestions for decent, safe accommodations with fast, reliable internet access that are reasonably close to the action (either Fields or Perimeter). I am thinking 2-4 weeks stay. Best bang for the buck, max P4000/night, but would prefer cheaper.

Fast reliable internet and power are a must though. Can not afford any downtime.

Anybody have ideas?

I do quite a bit of internet work as well so anyone with comments to share wrt to their experience on the reliabity and bandwidth of places in A city appreciated.
